We decided on this hotel for its location as we were driving around Iceland on this trip. The travel time from the main international airport was only 45 minutes. We were arriving late, but messaged the hotel ahead, they promptly replied and were waiting for us on our late arrival. Check-in was seamless. We chose the Superior Suite as we loved the free standing bath at the bottom of the bed, you could take in the panoramic views from both the bath and large bed. The bathroom also had a rain shower, with an additional shower attachment if required. We made good use of the bath after those long days visiting Icelands many sites. We opted for Breakfast which catered for our needs, this consisted of bread, fruit, cereal, eggs and bacon, Hot drinks on tap, with a selection of teas and coffee from the churn. With easy access to most main roads, it was only 15 minutes to Reykjavik and a short drive to most main roads taking you to the Golden Circle or the South Coast. We would stay here again as we didn't manage to see all of Iceland.

We absolutley loved this hotel! It is family owned and ran, and they make you feel very welcomed! Beautiful location, just outside of Reykjavik, but not too far. Our room was wonderful - very nice size, large windows to see out on the lake, comfortable bed, nice size bathroom with an awesomw shower! Very cozy! The food was great - nice breakfast variety with yummy homemade breads, and dinner was always good! They have a chef onsite and he made wonderful dishes!!! Nice little bar to have a couple of beers or glass of wine before dinner too!

We stayed 5 nights here and 2 nights in town.. Our room here was less expensive and MUCH nicer than in Reykjavik (however it was fun to stay to stay in town for a couple of nights)... There are various tour companies that will pick up at this hotel, but not all of them do.. If you email the hotel, they will send you a list of companies you can use... Otherwise you have to go into Reykjavik to be picked up, just FYI..

The staff here were soooooooo wonderful! Very friendly and helpful, and truly want you to be comfortable and enjoy your stay. They will drive you into town or to the airport for a small fee. They will help book tours, and have many recommendations of things to do and places to see. I spent some time just talking to the ladies at the front desk while waiting for our tour pickup, and they are so friendly and love to tell you about their beautiful country. Very pleasant to talk to! They made our stay even more enjoyable!

I highly recommend this hotel - you will not regret it! We are hoping to come back next year, and will definitley stay at this hotel again!

Driving up it didnt look promising - through a small industrial estate and some residential areas, and the decor at the front seems sort of Mexican? Not really what you’d expect in Iceland, and it looked a bit shabby. But our rooms were great, overlooking the lake, and were modern, Icelandic themed and very nicely decorated, especially the shower which was fantastic. From reading other reviews it seems the upgrade was fairly recent, and I wouldn’t want to get any of the other rooms that were just off the reception area and seemed to be more in keeping with the front of the hotel’s theme. We arrived early and our room was ready for us anyway which was great as there were quite a few guests staying and I’d assumed we’d have to wait. All in all was quite impressed, but wouldn’t really fancy staying here for more than a night or two.

My colleague booked a room which have double bed but she want twin bed but none available.

I should arrive two days after she arrive. But my flight was cancelled so I arrive 4 days later then stay for two nights.

My colleague and I can’t sleep together so need extra bed. They did not tell me it is extra charge. I asked my colleague if they inform her she said no. It seems dishonest they keep quiet until we check out and tell us. Lucky we got some money but it was not nice. They should tell us from the beginning.

My colleague is very ill so I keep asking for cleaning on first day I arrive it did not happen quickly - three hours later they told me cleaners go home but man who is very nice and do it for us.

Breakfast is not included but it is no where it is Impossible to go to local shop or local restaurant. Lucky we got a friend who drive for us we pay for their services. It is snowy outside so my colleague is wheelchair user so we can’t go outside a lot.

The water in bathroom for Iceland smell bad but it does not bother us a bit but in case some people are sensitive.

The room is really nice and bath is really good but it keep go hot and cold at all times but it was not impossible to have a bath.

Hotel need to improve a lot by displaying honest costs. I believe extra bed should not be charged at all only charge the room. I went to other hotel they give extra bed but never charge more.

Dear Eziosavva, Thank you for staying in Kriunes hotel! And thank you for your feedback. We´ve been in contact with your colleague before arrival, we wanted to make sure she understands, that our hotel is not considered as wheelchair accessible. Extra bed is always an option for extra charge and it´s written in all booking pages. Unfortunately, nobody made request for that in reception before. Anyway, we hope we can always communicate better in the future about your needs before arrival and meet your expectations. We wish you the best! Thank you Sincerely, Hotel Kriunes Team

Lovely hotel with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Quiet location on the lake with room doors opening out onto the lake. The location is near to local amenities and about 20 min drive to the center of Reykjavik. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, modern and clean and include hairdryers, mini fridge, safe, robes (although ours disappeared after the first night?). The buffet breakfast was very good with a selection of cereals, porridge, eggs, bacon, beans etc.
We did not book evening meals, but we would have liked to see menus in advance so we could have the option of staying in the hotel for meals. the one menu we did see looked great!
The hot tub was out of use but there are plenty of hot pools to enjoy in Iceland anyway.

We stayed here for 3 nights mid February.
We had a room downstairs with a view onto the frozen lake, an amazing view to wake up to in the mornings. Room was very spacious & modern with a large bathroom.
The staff were very friendly & helpful. Nothing was too much effort for them.
Hotel is located in a great location on the outskirts of the city however you may need a car to get to and from it.
We weren’t lucky enough to witness he northern lights but I can’t imagine a better hotel to stay in to view them.
Very remote but yet so close to the city.
Thanks, Sean & Suzi.

What a lovely hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious and comfortable and my room had a gorgeous view over the lake.

The staff could not have been more friendly or helpful, they were always available for anything I needed and were really helpful with things like transfers as and when needed.

Breakfast was amazing, fantastic selection, and I ate dinner at the hotel one evening and that was gorgeous.

The hotel is a little way outside the main town but the bus routes were good and then only a short 5/10 minute walk to the hotel from the bus stop. I would recommend getting a transfer when you have lots of luggage though!

Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful hotel which has been recently renovated and is still in the process of doing some new rooms & buildings. Friendly staff and beautiful food. Location is a little far out from Reykjavik centre but we figured the bus system out quite well, bus stop maybe 10 minutes walk away from hotel so not too far out, took about 25-35 mins on the bus into centre for only 499kr, saw the northern lights at the hotel too which really made our trip special!

We really enjoyed our one night here, and wished we could have stayed longer. The hotel is about 20 minutes outside Reykjavik in a suburb with truly awful roads, but it’s worth the toll on your vehicle to reach it. The rooms all face a nice lake, on which one could paddle kayaks provided by the hotel. The driving rain prevented us from trying this however. The hotel staff went out of their way to fire up their geothermal hot tub for us, but the rain made it hard to appreciate. Our room was lovely, with a private bath, great lounge chairs and a nice view of the lake. Breakfast was excellent. Without GPS it might be difficult to find the place.

We loved our stay at this family run hotel. The rooms are a good size for families and many of them have gorgeous views of the lake and surrounding area which was great for those inclement weather days. It was a quick drive to Reykjavik and a great home base for day trips. Another plus for it being outside of the city is that if you get lucky and the conditions are right all you have to do is step outside to see the Northern Lights! Breakfast was great and they have a small dinner menu as well for days you want to just stay in after a day of adventure. There is a near by lava field called the “red hills” and a small hiking trail maybe a 5-10 minute drive away. These are all photos I took at Hotel Kriunes! The family is in the process of upgrading the facility. Some parts of the hotel are still quaint and others more sophisticated- it’s is family run for generations and is growing and changing over time. All the staff are helpful and friendly.
