I popped in here for lunch with my 3 daughters, it wasn’t very busy only a few tables occupied, there were 4/5 staff on at the time. We ordered 3 toasties,a soup and a ciabatta. We waited 25mins for our food which is already off to a bad start particularly considering it was very quiet. The soup and toasties came and we were waiting for the ciabatta, waiting and waiting.I called the waitress over and asked about the ciabatta she went and spoke to another waitress and after 5mins came back and said “there was a mix up with the order, your toastie will be a few mins”.Firstly it wasn’t a toastie it was a ciabatta, we waited another 10mins , the rest of us were finished so we decided to cancel the ciabatta/toastie The food we had gotten wasn’t great at all, the soup was completely over seasoned with a very strong peppery taste, the filling inside the toasties wasn’t even hot, the cheese not even melted, seriously how can you get toasties wrong. The bill came and it was €42, they had charged us for the ciabatta we never got, there was total confusion when I pointed this out. I would never visit here again , the food which is fairly straightforward was awful and the service was shocking, mistakes happen I get it but no apology or anything …
We use the Arches for its proximity to Galway and a focal point to explore the surrounding countryside. The guests seem to love the place - it has a vibrant friendly bar, restaurant (good breakfast), a gym and pool with a leisure centre, and cosy air-conditioned rooms. We enjoyed the country feel and a walk by the Clare River, across from the hotel, and historic ruins of Claregalway Abbey. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices, a country feel and Galway city just 15 min away make this a bargain hotel.
This place doesn’t get the recognition it deserves. The breakfast is THE best I’ve had in a long long time. The choice is fantastic and very hard to choose from. The cooked breakfast isn’t greasy and cooked perfectly with more than enough even in the mini. The porridge is amazing, I have tried to make my own just like it, but can’t. The boxy is delicious and will fill you for the day, pancakes, spot in. I can’t really recommend just one as it’s all fantastic and unlimited tea and toast ( no extra charge like some places). It’s a very relaxed and calm atmosphere, the way breakfast should be. The staff are very efficient and very friendly and helpful. I no longer go elsewhere for breakfast locally. Please don’t change a thing.
Attended here for breakfast with a mate of mine. We both ordered the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. 3 flat tiny pancakes were presented on my plate with a tiny ramican of maple syrup. My rashers were over cooked and I was still so hungry after my meal. I will never return until portion sizes improve.
Stayed here for a night after getting out of hospital and have to say it was great . Nothing was too much bother for the staff with all the covid stuff going on it felt almost normal . We had dinner in the bar area at night and everything was great and again the breakfast in the morning was excellent with one of the nicest porridges I've ever had . Also the complimentary tea and coffee in the bar in the absence of it being in the room due to covid was a nice touch . Would definitely return hopefully on a more relaxed visit again . Keep doing what you are doing.
