Detailed Reviews
Second hôtel of our road trip in central Switzerland.
We booked the Swiss-chalet on the hotel website with very good deal and pre-paid our overnight stay, with the objective to spend a night in a typical Swiss timber chalet.
We drove in the village and easily found the huge parking in front of the hotel. The reception is in Schloss hotel on the other side of the street. We were presented with the surprise of an upgrade in the 4* hotel instead of the chalet 1*. With a small deception of not experiencing the Swiss chalet type of building we accepted the upgrade, it is not every day. 😉
The Schloss hotel is decorated with medieval weapons, and have a direct access to the lake. Our extra large room offered a view to the lake, a entrance hall, a large salon space with armchair and table and a small balcony. Mid October is unfortunately not the best time to enjoy this nice balcony oriented to the lake and to the south. The bed is extra large and very comfortable, with 2 duvet covers. The bathroom have obviously been renovated a few years ago and look pristine. The minibar beverage are free, and we have 2beers, 2 soda and 2 bottles of water, it is not a cheap attention.
All amenities you can expect from an hotel of this level.
The only specific you’ll have to adapt, is that you need to dress yourself up to go for breakfast in the Swiss Chalet 100m away. Not a big deal for us since the weather was good, it could have been more inconvenient if it would have rained or snowed heavily, so you know. I’d guess there should be some kind of room service for breakfast, but I did not check.
Overall a lovely experience. 🙏🏼

We had the Jaguar room. Definitely one of thos eonce in a lifetime experiences, sleeping in an old Jag. Overall we found everything very comfortable and clean, very friendly and professional service, from reception through to the restaurant. For dinner we had the Chateaubriand, absolutely excellent, one of the best we've had.

Very friendly welcome and impeccable service, spacious and perfectly clean rooms, free room upgrade, this hotel is well worth the detour. Castle spirit, with old-world charm. Quality breakfast, in a typically Swiss and cozy setting...

The hotel is situated at the border of the Lake Lucerne, an amazingly beautiful place in Switzerland. Snow-peaked mountains on the background, a beautiful lake, a very picturesque building. Truly outstanding. We stayed at the Schloss Hotel, but this is actually a big complex of 3 different hotels and bars and restaurants.
Personnel very polite and classy, knowledgeable and helpful. The hotel is super nice, with a "medieval" vibe. Big, comfortable rooms, nice bathroom. Breakfast decent, although nothing out of the normal.
They also have the lake, a swimming area, and other summer amenities not open, as we went late September.
Highly recommend, if you by car and visiting the surroundings. Price is on the expensive side, but this is Switzerland, it's a 4-star hotel, and truly, I've been to swiss hotels with similar price but 10x lower quality.
If there's a complaint, but nothing the hotel can control, it's this: we were 3 days on the region, and it's completely overtaken by chinese and indian large groups. We had very disagreeable experiences (including loud guests, that thought nothing of farting in the middle of the breakfast room, among others), but nothing to be done about....

My friend and I received a voucher for a stay at the Schlosshotel via Smartbox, and we thought it was a great place to spend a weekend with her 2 dogs. The hotel had been praised as open to allowing pets, so we chose the Schlosshotel. It’s situated on the north of the Luzern lake, in Schwyz. It’s easy to get to from the highway, we drove by car. Free parking right by the hotel. The website did not list when check-in time was, and although we had called the night before, the night clerk did not know at what time check-in was possible, he assumed 1 o clock. Upon arrival at 1 in the afternoon, we were told that our rooms would be ready around 3. We used this time to scout the area and take the dogs on a hike. The area is fantastic for any hiking, hill running and cycling. Upon return we were greeted warmly with a bowl of water for the dogs, and some Prosecco for us. Our superior room was spacious and clean, with a complimentary water bottle and a stocked minibar. Plenty of amenities, sans toothbrush, but we had provided for this ourselves. Tip: a little up the street is a small supermarket.
The hotel has a small garden overlooking the lake, with lawn chairs and sitting areas only for hotel guests. Due to chilly weather, we had this all to ourselves and enjoyed a picnic overlooking the lake. Of course, we also checked out the pool area and advise caution if using hotel slippers—we almost fell when entering the area and had to remove them immediately. The pool is set up nicely, with relaxing chairs and plenty of extra towels, nice to swim and relax. The Finnish sauna was also nice, seemingly and high quality benches. There were more towels available here, very practical.
Meals are served right across the street at the Chalet Hotel, which can get very full, so make sure to reserve! While the food was excellent there, the place seemed understaffed as we had to wait about 45 minutes for our food, and due to a misunderstanding, they had forgotten the drinks which we received even later. The staff apologized of course, but it did put a damper on the experience. We had specifically asked for a space in the corner for the dogs, but were placed in the center of the dining area, right by the entrance and it caused the dogs to be nervous. All other tables were full though, so we didn’t even have the possibility to pick a different one. It seems to be the only restaurant in Merlischachen, the next ones would be in the neighboring town of Meggen, which are accessible by car.
The bed was comfortable, another set of pillows would have been great. We opened the window which led out to the front of the hotel, but were awakened in the morning by smokers outside the hotel. Had the windows remained closed, the room might have been too warm to sleep in.
After a lovely sleep, we wanted to get breakfast, which is available until 10 a.m., and were then informed that check-out is at 10:30! Although we had enough time, it would have been better to have known this in advance as to prepare. Breakfast at the Chalet was very simple, some cheese, hams, different types of eggs, assorted breads, butter, jams, müsli and joghurt. They offered Prosecco as well, but the bottle was empty quickly and not replaced. They only had cow’s milk and joghurt, and as a dairy intolerant person, soy or oat milk would have given me more food options. Not very vegan-friendly either. We had enough time to eat some eggs before returning to check out.
Positive:
Lovely area for any outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, running.
Very friendly staff
Dog-friendly
Pool/sauna in case of bad weather
Negative:
Few vegan food options
Understaffed restaurant
No other restaurants in the village
To summarize: I would still recommend this hotel, as the location is exquisite. The price might seem a little steep, but for Switzerland it’s in the normal range. Perfect if travelling with dogs, or if you want to go for hikes or cycle (MTB or road). Regardless of weather, it would make for a lovely stay. If you have food intolerances or other dietary issues, it might be better to scout out a restaurant in one of the nearby villages and go there by car.

Perfect, perfect, perfect!!! We loved this hotel. We were upgraded to the Jaguar suite and had prosecco on arrival. The room was such an experience, beautiful views of Lake Lucerne.....out the rear window of a Jag! Amazing jacuzzi bath and separate shower room. The staff were so helpful. We took our evening meal in the French restaurant.....best food I've had in years and I'm a bit of a food snob. Would highly recommend this hotel.

We were only at this hotel for one night and when we arrived, our room was upgraded to the main hotel from the budget swiss chalet across the street from the main hotel. The staff were friendly, the upgraded room was so fun. We actually slept in a barrel bed. The grounds are beautiful. The hotel is right on the lake. We spend a lot of time siting in the lounge chairs enjoying the view. We wish we could have stayed a few more nights. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was delicious but pricey.

The hotel itself across the road does not have a restaurant, so breakfast and meals are a short walk away, but the food was well worth it. Attractive outdoor seating area with flowers and candles, but next to the road. The hotel has access to the lake, but the rooms seemed a bit basic with tiled floors and the style a bit dated. Would gladly return to the restaurant.

We've been coming to the Schloss for 8 years now because it is our little corner of paradise situated right on the lake with the most splendid views of the alps. It is a great place to just rest and relax but is conveniently situated between Lucerne and Zurich if one wants to go on a day trip and visit the city. It also has a great little restaurant that serves local cuisine and a cosy little bar to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink.

We loved our room, every one was so friendly except for one lady who was at the reception, but somehow seemed not to be there. The front office team members were all great so we thought she maybe was seated there temporarily for a few days doing some work on reports. If she is a member of the front office we as guests thought that she is bringing down the high service quality of other FO members.
The restaurant is also cozy and romantic, the steak was soft and tasty.
The walk along the lake, their lovely garden, all the efforts they put in constructing from scratch. Interiors, the grandness of the rooms. They also offer free parking for their guests, we were meant to arrive by car and we think it is a big plus for a hotel in Switzerland.
The spa area was also very well kept and we even enjoyed that very much.
We thought what a great investment for Merlisachachen, that deserves more than a single night stay. It is ideal for hikers, nature lovers. We especially would like to thank Front Office Members who met all our requests above expectations. We hope that the lady at the reception had a temporary boring duty and if it is done she is back to smiling. Thank you all very much.
