After a long days drive we parked up in the hotels grounds and entered a lovely oasis of tranquility. ...it is a beautiful area and the staff went out of their way to make our 3 night stay very memorable . Comfortable rooms with great beds , super shower, spotlessly clean absolutely everywhere. The food was excellent and freshly served each day . Good selection of wines too . They also cater for special dietary requirements , if needed , and staff were always making sure everything was to your satisfaction .(We are a group of different nationalities and had no language problems by the way ) The sunsets were beautiful as were the sunrises .. we were treated royally and would recommend this hotel for people looking for a touch of the authentic regional fare rather than mass produced tourism from the chain hotels . Thank you Hotel Galatea for a most memorable visit !

Don't get me wrong here with the scoring. The hotel is actually fairly nice, and I didn't find anything major wrong with it. The main things wrong with it was that for such an expensive hotel, there should be some comforts. There is no lift provided for those of lesser mobility. Something you'd expect for the cost. Also, we were also only left with 1.5 toilet rolls, of horrible cheap quality. Price doesn't reflect in the quality. Also, all the toiletries were cheap and the shower gel and shampoo were provided in those horrible little packets, not enough for one shower. What exactly are we paying for??? Just the bed? If I pay such a high price for a hotel, I expect some basic luxuries. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean, but are very small. The rooms are badly insulted. We were trying to sleep but the noise of am unruly child screaming and shouting outside our door was not addressed by either the mother or the hotel staff. The rooms are very badly insulating from internal hotel noises (especially from screaming children!!). The best thing about the hotel is the powerful shower. For what the hotel is, it is way over-priced. The hotel would be a fair price if it was at €20 less. I have spent the past 10 years travelling Spain extensively. This is perhaps the most over-priced hotel I've stayed in. It's in the middle of nowhere in a very average town (and we stayed out of season!). I have stayed in the centre of big cities like Valencia, Dublin, Madrid, Vienna, etc. for even less than this and better quality. So the main reason for the bad score is not the condition of the hotel, but more so for the value for money. Definitely not worth the price. Bring the cost down by €20 and it'd be fair value or include luxuries!! And €15 for use of the spa, on top of the room price, is a joke. Ridiculous pricing!!

Firstly lets point out this Hotel/Area is for the more adventurous type of person, we live on the Costa Blanca so have a Basic understanding of The Spanish Language. Without this you would find it possibly difficult to communicate, that is by no means a reason not to visit this area, just an observation that we have only come across one person, the Hotel Chef, who had any knowledge of Spoken English. The Hotel is not difficult to locate as expressed in some other reviews, it's slightly outside of town on the road to the lakes and is distinctive in being the only turreted building we saw in the area, other than the Castle at the Dam. From the moment we walked in we felt the tranquility of the place, it was peaceful, relaxed and quiet, this was in the middle of April, so at other times it may be different. The Hotel receptionist was friendly, helpful, efficient and polite which made the check in procedure faultless and quick. We found our room (104) on the first floor to be spotlessly clean, with a Kingsize bed that had separate pillows for each of us and sufficient space around it so as not to feel boxed in. It had air con and central heating, so catered for all the seasons, a Spanish Cable Tv (No English speaking channels) a separate en suite with a small cubicle shower and good wifi reception. If you like dark, then the persiana's (shutters) helped enormously and on both nights we slept soundly, with no other guests room noise heard whatsoever. Breakfast is served in the Bar area and consists of the usual Spanish fare, would suggest taking your own tea bags if a tea aficionado, as we do wherever we go in rural Spain. The waitress was a lovely woman who was obliging, professional whilst being friendly and had a sense of humour, which we found refreshing as some of the rural Spanish appear to be nervous of those that travel and speak a different language. No such problems at this hotel and after having dinner here, we were glad we choose this hotel. Dinner itself was simple, perfectly cooked (1 x Tuna, 1 x Fillet Steak) and tasty, there were no vegetables, other than potatoes/chips but again that appears to be typical and to be honest with the size of the portions, unnecessary, although salad is available should you want some green....... At the end of dinner the chef came out and spoke to each table of diners, which we thought was a nice touch and as we say, the first time whilst here approached by someone speaking English. Would I stay here again, undoubtedly, the location is ideal, it's not touristy, the staff professional whilst being nice/friendly, the accommodation comfortable and the tranquility superb. There is plenty of free car parking within the Hotel grounds. We did not use or try the Spa so are unable to comment. Steve Sent from my iPad
