Detailed Reviews
This is another hotel we stayed at Ikebukuro during this same trip in Japan. We are not very much impressed except that it is located at a good location very close to the JR station.
For the room size, it is slightly bigger than the other one we stayed (which is just across the street; and we spent couple of nights in each of these hotels) but for the overall room facilities or the hardwares you like to call, including TV, Wi-Fi and AC etc we would prefer the other one.
Although it looks like to me the room has been renovated, the facilities in the room are still old including a small and thick TV which is just slightly bigger than that of the inflight tv screen in the economy class. The TV is more like a product of the 90s I would say and it is not functioning quite properly when we have to point the remote control to another machine (kind of like a vcr) and press the button hard for several times before the TV can be turned on. Even the hotel staff have tried several times before he’s able to turn it on. Can’t really believe this would happen in Japan in 2020!!
Other than the TV, the Wi-Fi is in fact a disaster! Signal is very weak in the room and it can’t be connected to internet 99% of the time. And the staff suggested us not to use it as there are just too many guests using it at the same time and they have no way to improve it. Seriously?
For the AC, well...I guess it may be common that in most of the old(er) hotels, it is a centralized AC system, meaning that you can’t adjust the room temperate even with the AC control in your room. It’s winter time in japan but it is very warm. The room is so stuffy so hot that when we asked for comment, the hotel staff could only suggest us to turn off the AC and open the windows. Lucky that the windows could be opened for bit, but in fact, it would mean very noisy during the night when you will hear clearly people yelling out on the street or fire trunk passing by etc. In fact it makes not much different even with the windows closed as the windows are not sound-proofed kind. So yes, let’s forget about it but to open some windows for some fresh air. With the noise from outside, we both couldn’t have some good quality sleep during the stay.
These are the three things I’d like to share with people reading this post. There are ofcourse some other areas, like the space design issue, that need further improvement; but I guess I can bear with it lol. Credit goes to the fact that the room is although small, we could still get our two suitcases opened in full inside it.
So will I consider this hotel again? Yes, if it is cheaper than the other one across the street.

We didn't like the first place we had reserved in Ikebukuro, so we were stumbling around trying to find another place to stay. Read other reviews and decided to give this place a try. We were very happy with our stay! Yes, the rooms are small, but they're really functional. The toilets are state of the art Japanese (if you know what I mean). The shower was maybe the best shower I've ever experienced in a hotel of any size. The water pressure was amazing and I just loved it. We tried the breakfast and decided that although it was a great variety, we were better off just getting something light and easy from Becker's down the street at the Ikebukuro train station. But, it is a great spread with both Japanese and Western-style offerings. The hotel does have a really good espresso/coffee machine that's absolutely free for guests in the Lobby. We made "Americanos" every morning to tide us over until we went out. Also, Ikebukuro is a great neighborhood to be based in for Tokyo. It's not touristy at all - almost all locals - and the station offers direct service to almost every neighborhood. With one transfer, you can be anywhere in the city. Everyone spoke English well enough at the front desk, but one of the hotel employees was perfectly bilingual which was a big help.

Stay there before about 5 years ago. The hotel is old now (don’t even have usb ports) but still quite clean. Very small room even by Japanese standard. I was travelling with a friend we have two single rooms and neither of us can move around without our suitcase upright (it’s open/take things out/shut it). Last time I stay was in a double room and it’s not that much bigger either. However what made up for it is the location. It’s about 5 min walk from ikekuburo station and close to a lot of eateries and shopping without the hustle of Shinjuku or Shibuya. I like Ikekuburo but next time will likely find another place. I think The B is a bit old and tattered now.

This was the first hotel we stayed at during our trip to japan, and I would say this was an excellent choice. There was a great restaurant on the second floor that provided an excellent breakfast buffet, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. The rooms and facilities were also excellent, and the shower in particular was great for a satisfying cleanse! There are plenty of other activities within the vicinity as well as easy access to the metro system. Altogether I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel

For the price point (about AUD $208 per night), the B Ikebukuro is not worth it.
When we compared it with other comparable hotels we stayed in, it was the
worst. Apparently the Agora in Ginza is much better at this price point.
The room & bathroom is tiny.
The carpets are grubby. Bins tiny.
Beds were fine.
Laundry is good
Location is close to the station, Animate, Sunshine City (shopping centre) and heaps of restaurants.
Zero charm.

We spent 8 nights at the 'b' in a triple room. Hotel rooms in Japan aren't really designed for 3 so it was definitely tight on space but would have been fine for 2. This isn't a luxury hotel, yet it's spotlessly clean, rooms are very comfortable, beds are comfortable.
Breakfast was included in our room rate, and the buffet has a large variety of items, both Japanese and Western (a bit more of the Japanese). The food quality of the buffet is very high - much higher than the typical "free" breakfast in the US.
The room had wired internet which worked very well. Wireless internet is not available.
Staff was always polite and helpful. Housekeeping was great but be aware that they err on the side of caution so if you want something thrown out place it in the trash or make it very obvious that it is garbage.
The bathroom is very interesting. It looks like a pre-fab unit placed into the room and it is somewhat narrow but contains a Toto Washlet (the Japanese toilet that washes your butt for you), a sink, and a really nice shower with rain head, hand wand, and 3 extra forward-facing water jets.
Location was OK. It's very close (5 mins walk) to Ikebukuro station, which gives you easy access to all of Tokyo. The specific location is at the edge of a slightly seedy area but this is Tokyo so it's not unsafe. In any case a much nicer part of Ikebukuro is only 5-10 minutes walk away,
The hotel has little in the way of facilities but there is coin-op laundry and a free terminal with printer in the lobby, both very useful for travelers.
We had no problems with our stay and the price is right.

This hotel is crap… sorry for saying this but the hotel is the worst ever.
When we returned to the hotel at midnight after a long day of walk in the city, we were shocked to realise that the door was not closed. It is not locked definitely, but the door wasn't even closed properly. So to say, the housekeeping lady kept it opened for the whole time (we don't know for how long) and we were shocked. I have never seen such ridiculous thing happened in the many many hotels I have stayed before.
To say that this is a hotel is an overrated comment, this is a motel… with no service. When we checked in, we were handed our room key and no one helped us with our luggage… but I guess what you pay is what you get. This hotel is cheap, it's near the JR station, and that's the good thing about it but the overall experience was terrifying.
Apart from the opened doors, the fire alarm went off 2 in the morning (some japanese words spoken together with the alarm ringing - there was no English … so even if there were a fire, you wouldn't probably know what was going on!!!) We called the concierge and found out that this is a false alarm - 2 am in the morning. Thanks for that, we really had a good night sleep!!!!
There was no heat / ac in the room, you had to open your windows and the noise outside will keep you wide awake the whole of the night.

let me talk about the pros first :
the hotel room is rather small (probably very common in Tokyo) but tidy and clean. bed is comfortable. location is very good. breakfast variety is fine. "a couple of" the front desk people (one is a lady on training) are nice and helpful.
now the cons:
on the day we checked in (evening of 1 July), the man at the front desk looked very annoying, not cheerful at all. I couldn't understand why since Japanese are well known of politeness.
we were a family group of 13 people, my sister needed to change room 3 times during her 10 days of stay! All of us needed to change rooms at least once! may be better arrangement could have been done??
the 2 ladies at the front desk were neither nice nor helpful. I had been asking them for 2 days about my expecting package, they didn't even check and said "not received". when I showed them I had a notice showed the package had been delivered. 10 minutes later, they called me at my room and said my package had arrived. on our checked out day, 6 July, as we needed to leave our luggage at the lobby area and come back for them in the evening. I think it's very common at any hotels. they looked unpleasant and chatting to each other in Japanese.
breakfast, not sure if they didn't have enough man power on some busy days at the restaurant, food, coffee machine, coffee cups, plates, etc were gone empty without refilling. when I told the lady the coffee machine was not working, she just put a cup at the machine and asked me to wait. Finally she found out that it's not my problem but the machine!! so unbelievable rude!!
I'm from HK and I totally understand there are some bad reputation about mainland Chinese and HK but not everyone from the country are bad! As a service industry, I believe that a “basic standard” of service should be provided unless they don't welcome Chinese/HK!

My husband and I stayed at the B Ikebukuro on our recent honeymoon to Japan. We spent 10 days at the B and it was a great visit. The hotel is close to Ikebukuro station as well as lots of dining and shopping locations in the neighborhood. There is a post office near by as well as lots of konbini and a walmart-owned supermarket. The rooms are nothing too fancy, but they are freshly decorated, very clean and efficient. The rooms are large for Tokyo standards with comfortable beds. The AC was a bit confusing to use (only because the controls were written only in Japanese!) but once we googled the kanji for air conditioning it cooled the room quite nicely even in the summer heat. The bathroom is smallish (as they are throughout all hotels in Tokyo) but has a washlet toilet and the shower is amazing. It has body jets and a rain head over top as well as a a handheld shower head. The breakfast buffet is included and is a pretty large spread with both Japanese and more western offerings. The potatoes are amazing and the curry was pretty good as well. Finally, there is a 100Y coin operated laundry on one of the floors which we used twice during the trip. The hotel offers free detergent.
All in all, this was a great trip and a great hotel. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others who want a comfortable, convenient place to stay.

It is the third time I stay at the b Tokyo Ikebukuro and probably the last one.
I had a great experience the last 2 times I stayed here but this time the air conditioner is ruining my stay.
The last 2 times I stayed (both also the seco d half of October) the room temperature was just fine. This time the air conditioner is centralised and cannot be changed, leaving you with extremely cold air blowing directly to your face while you are sleeping. As a result I got sick after my first (of 5) night stay.
At reception they have provided a heater, but this does not block the cold air from blowing directly to my face while sleeping.
Once again, it is the third time I stay at this hotel and the first one I have this big issue.
Sadly I can not stay here again in the future as after the first night I already got a cold :(

No pocket wifi when I was there. This is mostly a Business hotel directed at Japanese locals who stay late at work.
The best way of transportation is taking a Narita Express train for Ikebukuro station. After getting off a train, walk to east exit of station and along Meiji street to the hotel. It takes 5 mins from the station. Check train timetable on Google in advance as they have a few of trains for Ikebukuro an hour depend on your arrival time . Alternatively, you can get a limousine bus for SunShine Price hotel. But I do not recommend you it because you need to walk to from Sunshine in with baggage.
If you have further question, please email to the hotel directly.
We look forward to seeing you then.

I stay in the hotel for 5 night .The air con cannot change the temperature and my family members can't sleep for the whole night and I go down to the counter request to open the window and help me to control the temperature to be cooler at 5am on 1/7 morning.....but the reception go up to my room and say maybe my family members turn the temperature to warm,so my room is so warm....
I say no because we can't sleep for whole night and he just help me to open the window and say to me other room guest say the air con is too cold for them.....my God...The attitude of the reception is not good.
