Detailed Reviews
Three friends and I stayed here for three nights in January 2012. There is very little accommodation to choose from in Sabang, however I think we managed to plump for the worst! When we arrived in Sabang, most places were fully booked, however the Taraw was able to offer a range of cottages. During our stay, we realised there were many good reasons that the Taraw cottages were empty!
Upon arrival, we took a look at the two-berth beachfront cottages at 800php per night, but found them to be very small. For this reason, we decided to pay 1500php per night per couple to stay in the two four-berth cottages. The cottage was reasonably clean and obviously, being a four berth, was quite spacious, with two excellent places to store our cases in the two spare single beds. The double bed in which we slept was really quite comfortable, however everything else about the accommodation was not conducive to a good night's sleep:
- Electricity is available only between 6pm-1am, so during the night, the fan doesn't work and the room is stifling.
- The staff advised that they could switch on the air conditioning unit in the room for the bargain price of 3000php per night (about ÂŁ45). We could have stayed somewhere really nice instead!
- The Taraw cottages are home to a pack of wild dogs. Now, wild dogs are not known for their decorum and spent most of the night barking, howling and fighting on our cottage's veranda.
- The local chapter of the Hell's Angels starts circling the cottages at around 6am. At least, it sounds like they do. In reality, it'll just be a couple of blokes on mopeds with a piece of drain pipe fitted where the exhaust should be.
- The cockerels in the farm behind must have arrived on the same flight as we did, as they were suffering from severe jet lag, cock-a-doodle-dooing as they did from around 3am.
On top of all this, there was zero service - towels not changed, beds not made, bathroom and toilet not cleaned for three whole days. The toilet was also prone to blocking, as evidenced by the large plunger rather thoughtfully provided next to the pan.
Still, even this place deserves one star, as the location is fantastic - right on the beach - and the kitchen staff were able to rustle up a passable vegetable omelette for breakfast. However, I would look elsewhere if at all possible when staying in Sabang - and try to book early.

There was 5 of us in a group that needs 4 rooms. We met some guy and gave us an information about some places in Sabang and suggested us two places that is just right next to each other. We check both place when we arrived and we like the place that is before the Taraw Cottages but unfortunately, they do only have 2 cottages left and so without hesitation , we chose to stay in Taraw Cottages because we wanted to be near to each other. If I'm not mistaken, me and my boy got the cottage B8 and a friend got the B7. The room is OK, it is clean, it has 2 single beds, a stand fan and a little bathroom. Its pretty cute coz we have to walk so slow because the floor is only made by plywood and we don't want to picked up on the ground that is why. :D My partner was not that happy at first sleep as he felt uncomfortable but he was waken up with the pretty sound of sea breeze and a beautiful sunrise that shines the morning dew, that was so lovely and we like it a lot! We have been talkin of how the room is but with the beautiful and lovely location, we decided to just stay at this place till our third night prior to our schedule and we are proud to say that "YES we live"!!! One thing, we have witnessed the jaw-dropping scene with the moon rising in action. They don't have a cleaning service but whenever you ask for a new towel or so, they are there entertain you. They have very nice location and a better room could be perfect! We have been looking around and we have seen a nice room where we like to stay when we come back but Taraw location is the place where our heart is.

We stayed there for 1 night because we wanted to see the subterranean river. The resort is next to a very next and fancy resort that´s just on a slow opening at the moment. It´s called Sheridan. The Taraw cottages are all bamboo, there are no screens on the windows. Since the power is only until 11.00 at night and there is only a fan you really need to open the windows. You can definitely count on roaches in a places like this. Mosquito nets and towels are not standard, you have to ask for them (repeatedly). When we finally got the nets we had to put them on ourselves, which was quite difficult. We were sweating our a.... off. I got so angry that I wanted to change into the fancy resort next door, but after I calmed down and the nets where fixed, we stayed. I didn´t feel comfortable, but it was ok. We saw only two roaches crawling around so I guess they try to keep the place clean. For one night it´s ok and actually there is no reason to stay longer at Sabang Beach.

I think there were probably four hotels on this particular stretch of the beach. And I think Taraw could probably be the worst one of the lot. Oh boy, where do I start? We paid 1,000 pesos a night and that came with free breakfast. The beds were clean-ish but it wasn't very comfortable. There was only electricity from 6pm to 2am, and the room ventilation was courtesy of this standing fan which made a lot of noise. Once the electricity gets cut off, you can try opening the windows for some air, if you have no problems with mosquitoes (they do have mosquito nets).
There is no hot shower and the water pressure is suspect. I think if the guest staying next door is having their shower at the same time, expect nothing more than a trickle from your tap so it's still better to fill up the bucket they provide you in the pretty yucky toilet and showering with that. They also don't turn beds, so you do have to make up your own beds. And they also don't change your towels. In fact, the hotel does nothing to clean your room, and yet they don't provide brooms in every room so that you can sweep the sand out.
But I suppose the rooms had some redeeming feature. The rooms had paper thin walls, so my friends who were staying next door could communicate with me quite easily by just shouting in their own room.
The "western" breakfast is a bit of a joke but their local corned beef with rice was not too bad, although I suspect that all they did was to crack open a can of supermarket corned beef. The waitress was quite surly too. Once she brought out a cup of really really bad milk for my coffee for breakfast. When I demanded for it to be changed, together with the coffee that was ruined by the bad milk, all she did was grunt nonchalantly with no word of apology.
It may have a nice view but the location is not the best. It's still a 15-minute walk to the main road and the shops, but it certainly is right on the beach.

Not really sure where to start with this place! Booked two cottages between 4 of us. Opted for the four berth as the two berth was very cramped. we were charged 1500php per cottage per night. The bed was the only comfortable part of the room. We had a broken old stand alone fan which worked from 6pm till 1am. They wanted an extra 3000 per night per cottage to turn the air con on, I could have bought my own cottage for that!! You will then be woken by the heat, cockerels, dogs fighting and the mopeds! We had been traveling around Palawan prior to our stop in Sabang so we were used to noise but this place is in a league of its own. They have a real problem with packs of stray dogs constantly fighting over the territory. It would seem like the owners make all their money out of supplying lunch to the day trippers, they pay no attention to their guests what so ever. They did not even empty the toilet waste bins once during our three night stay. The cottages are very, very run down. After walking around Sabang we came to the conclusion that this is by far the worst place to stay. Marys resort at the far end was lovely. If you are not worried about cost then The Daluyon Resort is amazing, if you don't stay there then at least visit the restaurant, you will not be disapointed.
