Sugar Cane Club Hotel & Spa is often commended for its value, offering affordable stays with satisfactory amenities. Guests have called out the staff for their friendliness and willingness to accommodate, despite occasional slow service in the dining areas. The hotel's cleanliness receives consistent praise, with its well-maintained rooms and grounds.
While the rooms are spacious and clean, some guests have faced issues with room allocation. Nestled amid serene gardens, the location offers a peaceful retreat, although it's not directly on the beach. Amenities like the pristine gardens and complimentary trips are a hit, but the hotel's atmosphere and dining options receive mixed reviews, with limited bar hours and some dissatisfaction with the noise level during live events.

Detailed Reviews
Just returned from our 2nd visit to Sugar Cane Resort after a 10 day holiday.
The beach which is accessible via the hotel shuttle bus is lovely, the beach house with toilet facilities, is a work in progress, which is fine now but will be perfect when fully finished. Nicholas will make sure you are never thirsty and will organise a lounger and umbrella for you. I would like to suggest a simple ticket system to ensure that those that book the shuttle bus can get a seat.
We enjoyed the food on our last visit, but were delighted with every meal we had this visit. Stephen Cox the new Food and Beverage Manager is a breath of fresh air, very professional and helpful with a great sense of humour, but happy to clear tables and help out.
Tricia, General Manager is a great asset to Sugar Cane, always approachable and willing to listen to any comments, but also always on hand to help out waiting on and clearing tables.
The gardens are a delight, cared for by the wonderful Rodney and his team.
Enjoyed eating at Sandy's, Junior and his team never failed to impress.
We had a lovely room overlooking the Gully, and enjoyed watching the monkeys playing in the trees. The accommodation was really spacious and kept spotless by the wonderful cleaners, but would really benefit from a bathroom makeover and a more powerful shower.
Returned home relaxed and a few pounds heavier.

Just returned after a week at the Sugar Cane hotel our first time in Barbados and feel completely chilled out and relaxed, not sure if that will last long as back to work tomorrow. Everything is geared up around the hotel for relaxation so if you want loud and lots of night life this isn’t for you. Firstly the food was excellent with a good varied menu for all tastes including some Italian options, I loved the lunchtime menu. A great range of all inclusive drinks, good quality wine and cocktails galore, in fact an eating and drinking paradise, good job we were only there a week for my waistlines sake! Our room was in the new block so everything was new, the room was a good size, lovely furnishings and clean. The shower was great. The gardens were immaculate and Rodney (head Gardner) did a fantastic gully tour well worth going on he even got everyone fresh coconut water straight off the trees. I visited the spa during my stay and if you love being pampered this is the place to come, massages were great and you can also use the facilities. You could see that the the staff took pride in there work, the majority were extremely friendly and wished you a good day when you passed them by or spoke to them, and the managers weren’t scared to help out with day- day things if needed to get the job done. The rum punch party was a great idea on a Monday evening for the guests to meet the staff. The hotel offered various trip options, we went on the glass bottom boat which gave you an opportunity to swim with the turtles this was a wonderful experience and was offered free as part of the all inclusive package, you could also book other trip options such as a Jeep Safari , or Oistins at a cost. We had already booked some trips via our rep and highly recommend the Jeep Safari and Harbour Lights. I also went horse riding one afternoon on the East Coast this was fabulous. If I have to make one criticism then I would say it would have been good to have a larger area for after dinner drinks where people can sit, the poolside was used 3 times a week for live music and eating but maybe it could be used other nights for people to sit and chill with a dink after eating and maybe some light back ground music. Lastly the beach was beautiful and loved the rum punch whilst watching the world go by. We met some lovely people on this holiday and like mentioned in other reviews the hotel is more like a home than a hotel, I certainly would love to return again as Barbados still has plenty to offer.

This hotel is one of the few we have stayed in that we would happily return to. It is small enough to easily get to know the other guests- many of whom return regularly. The staff were very good and seemed happy to be there and the manageress often appeared at meal times to talk to the guests but also serve and clear plates which was impressive.
The food was excellent quality and the menu changed regularly. The fact that most meals were a la carte, rather than a buffet suited us and we enjoyed all the eating venues: the restaurant, round the pool and in Sandy's Chattel bar.
We enjoyed going to the beach, the Gully walk and the glass bottomed boat.

Stayed here over Christmas and New Year. Had a suite with a fully equipped kitchen which was enough for four people. Spotlessly clean. Staff can’t do enough to make your stay a good one. Gardens are immaculate. Room has an iron ironing board and hairdryer. Washing machine and dryer also available for a small fee if you need it. A lacarte menu changes regularly. Weekly bbq and poolside buffet. Sugar Cane Club is a bit isolated but easy to get toHoletown and Bridgetown via hotel shuttle bus which drops you off at reggae bus stop in Speightstown. BB$3.50 on reggae bus to Holetown compared to BB$50 for a taxi
Senior management team are ace and very open to feedback. Thanks to Tracia Stephen and Mark for looking after me and to Damian the wonderful shuttle bus driver. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

We spent 10 fab-u-lous nights at the SCC, celebrating my husband’s birthday. We knew we’d enjoy ourselves as it was our sixth visit! It seems like a dream now, but we have our photos to remind us! I won’t mention individual staff as everyone was so friendly & helpful, welcoming us back into our ‘Bajan family’. New staff went out of their way to introduce themselves to us. New to us this time was the shuttle to Reed’s Bay: we’re not really beach people nor sunbathers, but there were plenty of parasols to shade us. I did some snorkelling, but wasn’t brave enough to go too far out where I might have encountered some turtles (although I’d already seen several on the glass bottomed boat trip). We enjoyed the Sunday beach BBQ, I pre-ordered a vegetarian option which was very tasty. Ice cold drinks are free, we also took a packed lunch one day and ate it in the picnic area. All our meals, in both restaurants and the poolside buffets, were excellent, again catering for our differing dietary requirements. We also enjoyed an excellent free massage in the
Spa courtesy of Virgin Holidays, plus an island trip with Damien in the Mercedes. Towards the end of our stay, hand sanitizers were attached to walls and stricter hygiene protocols were implemented due to the pandemic. Obviously, we like everything about the SCC including the dress code, the entertainment, no under 14s, etc. otherwise we wouldn’t return. This is the only hotel where we’ve been all inclusive and returnees. We’re looking forward to our next visit when it’s safe to travel...next time we’ll stay longer.

Stayed for a week at this lovely hotel just 5 minutes drive outside Speightstown. Most noticeable feature was the desire the staff have to make sure you are enjoying yourself. We felt most welcome - almost as if we had been invited to be part of one large family ( but not in that annoying all thrown together for Christmas sort of way!). Plenty of space to escape to though with only 70 guests nowhere seemed busy. Live evening entertainment 3 nights of our 7 night stay. Good quality meals and two restaurants to choose from. Hotel has a beach house at Reeds Beach for use during the day with access to toilets , sunloungers showers etc.
We had a great week and still enjoyed exploring the north and east coast of the island.
Will definitely go back !

Imagine cruising put us here, the room is lovely, great views and it has a kitchenette.
We were here for 3 nights 2 full days. We were 'room only' basis. Breakfast was buffet style; staff were friendly (there is always a few miserable ones). The peppercorn steak was nice, creamed potatoes were lovely. BBQ was a bit hit and miss, the live singer was a bit depressing, he catered to the older audience where the 70s / 80s was their heyday! Personally I'd prefer more upbeat (if not more modern) music.
Prices were a bit high £5 for a bottle of Banks beer and £10 for pina colada (even if has no alcohol in it). Meals work out about £30 pp. But many residents were all inclusive, and even if you go to the beach the Hotel has a small venue where all inclusive still applies.
Hotel provides a bus to take you to the beach which is 5 mins away if driving, but 15+mins if walking which I don't recommend, as there is not always enough space on the road but I understand there is a back way to walk.
Our room had a a/c remote but it seems some rooms did not so they couldn't turn it off, raise or lower the temperature. One couple used beach towel as a blanket, another piled their clothes on top the sheet to keep warm, they should have let reception know. I'd guess they have solar panels for heating water but they need a backup plan as one afternoon no hot water to shower and every morning no hot water to brush your teeth, the wash hand basin tap was dribbling. Staff clean the floors but not the cups/glasses in the kitchenette. The towels smelled a bit funky, I'd guess they were clean but hard to tell from the smell.
TV in room has good picture but few channels. Each room has a safe.
You can see why I scored it 3, nice but could be better.

Our first time to this Hotel and to the beautiful island of Barbados.
Hotel is a four star boutique hotel , it is very quiet secluded and relaxing which is what we came for.
We travelled with Virgin Holidays who offer a complementary glass bottom boat trip which is well worth going on especially seeing the turtles and having the opportunity to swim with them. Also complementary is a massage also worth getting we enjoyed the massage so much we had two more and could feel all the aches and pains disappear.
Rooms were kept spotless. Food was good ,especially enjoyed the lunch time menu. We were’t too keen on the buffet not much choice but heard they have a new head chef and things have improved.
Wine was good quality as were the spirits.
Entertainment was very low key , would have liked to dance once or twice a week.
Staff were always helpful and polite. Gardner’s always happy to share their knowledge with the guests.
Overall a lovely quiet hotel although not on the beach the shuttle ran every day so not a problem. We really enjoyed our ten day stay. Would we go back,( never say never) but the world is such a big place to explore!!!!

+1
This was our 4th visit to the island and definitely won’t be our last.
Sugar cane club is absolutely fantastic. The staff are all very polite, friendly and can’t do enough for you. We enjoyed the food, which some may see as a little repetitive, but the I pretty much ate a different meal every night. Lunch was usually a barbecue by the pool for us, although we did use the main restaurant on a few occasions. Breakfast is buffet style, and Erika makes the best omelettes ever. She won’t let you leave without telling you to have a great day! The shuttle bus service was great, and Tremayne would drop us off almost anywhere in speightstown, and was really helpful in making sure we got to where we wanted to go. The drinks were all decent brands, and the cocktails were immense Ricardo, Tamisha and Xavier all worked hard around the pool every day, and when Tamisha knew I was watching football on my iPad, she kept an eye on my glass, and kept topping me up. Fantastic! The grounds were kept impeccable and are beautiful. Leval worked tirelessly to make sure of that. The laundry facility was priceless to us, and we came home with literally no washing. Tokens for the washers & dryers were $8bbd. You can buy washing powder too, but we got it from town, with dryer sheets. We had a room with the balcony just by “the gulley”, at the bottom, and the monkeys waited at our balcony at 6:30 every morning for my wife to feed them bananas. My wife used the gym daily, which is clean, cool and well equipped. The only thing we didn’t really enjoy was the entertainment, not because it was poor, it just wasn’t our thing, and most people seemed to like it. We got taxis down to Six Mens, and soaked up the local culture in a few of the Rum-shops. Local people are all so friendly and welcoming, so don’t be afraid to go into a rum shop. The beach, which you can get the shuttle bus to is nice, but there is nothing there, no beds or umbrellas, no facilities for food & drink. There are trees for shade and the beach itself is lovely. We were told that the hotel have acquired a building to use on a beach a bit closer to Speightstown, which will see the beach experience enhanced massively. This should be ready in the summer. Hire Cars were scarce while we were there, but reception worked their magic and managed to find us one for a day. We would highly recommend Sugar Cane Club, and would return.

A delightful, small hotel located in the hills just above Speightstown. It consists of about 40 individual suites set among large beautifully maintained gardens. There is, of course, a pool area. Meals are served in two restaurants and the quality and variety of the menu is excellent as indicated by the fact that the owner regularly dines alongside the guests! The hotel has a dedicated west coast beach facility with all the conveniences you would need, linked to the main site by a regular shuttle service. The hotel can also offer you personal tours around the island with an entertaining and knowledgable guide. However, without doubt, the best aspect of the Sugar Cane Club is it’s staff, some of whom have been there for many years, but all of whom go the extra mile to be helpful and friendly and make every effort to make all their guests feel valued and at home. We couldn’t recommend the hotel more highly and would not consider staying anywhere else on the island.

I spoke to reception and they said 9.63 USD per night. Hope this helps
Smart shorts and short sleeved shirts/ polo shirts for men is fine in the main restaurant ( the long trousers rule seemed to disappear after Covid although my husband likes his linen trousers some evenings ). Basically no flip flops, t shirts . BBQ nights bit more casual if you wish.
Ladies , smart casual I guess covers it .
I get bitten everywhere I visit, no worse in Barbados than anywhere else I’ve been. We use mosquito repellent plug ins in the room, and I wear anti mosquito bracelets that I get at the airport. Take a pack of anti histamines, I find taking one a day helps, and if you can get any, some citrus oil to dab around. As for beer no idea sorry, I stick to the rum!
Hi, last year I emailed the hotel and they booked one for us, they sent through all the details etc. It was booked as a return journey and we were asked to pay the hotel on arrival - all worked well. The price was slightly less that what I had seen quoted on line, and considerably less that Virgin Holidays were quoting.
