The best thing about Charts resort was the trip which was organized by the German owner . We got nice pictures and deeper insights about the Philippines.

Take a good look at many of the Tripadvisor’s reviews for example “ddlp” from London or “def555xweezerx” or from Frankfurt, “swiecz” from Manila or many others saying only positive things about Charts (make your own conclusion if these are real hotel customers if you take good look at their contributions or is it possible that it is hotel management making own “reviews”?... I especially want to draw attention to Chart’s wonderful ( !) breakfast , “highlight of the day”. Let me tell you about the breakfast, which we thought was miserable. Only positive thing about the breakfast was the coffee, which was really good. The other drink beside coffee or tea was water (which wasn’t even cold). The first morning we asked for juice and got one, too. And so was the next morning, too. It was only the second day when I signed our room bill and I understood that the juice was 100 pesos per glass. So was cheese, which was also partly moulded. So there were many other items like yogurt, musli, croissants available on the breakfast menu, too, but only for extra cost. For example juice, it is not much, but we were staying there almost 2 weeks so together those would have made much and especially you expect certain things to be found on the breakfast menu. What was included in the breakfast apart from the drinks were bread (toaster was available), butter, marmalade, two kinds of fruits and choice from the menu (2 fried eggs or scrambled eggs or pancakes OR choice of Filipino breakfast). Some mornings there were croissants to be sold for 35 or 45 pesos per piece, and I guess when they were not sold they were given away for free 3 days later. When there were not enough customers the breakfast was even reduced and you chose from the list: You had to choose between CUP of coffee OR tea OR GLASS of water, I went for the breakfast myself (my husband gave up this fooliness already) and was given 2 pc of bread. No fruits available. Then there was to choose between 2 eggs or scrambled eggs or pancakes or fruitsalad or Filipino breakfast. I came back to room by staying hungry. Even this wasn’t enough, one morning I came to breakfast and was told that breakfast was finish. I managed to get some bread and coffee, but no eggs and fruits (there was fruit shop just 5 meters away from the hotel…) and they didn’t compensate this anyhow by offering at least some cheese or juice for free.

We stayed in both room types in Suite (76 Euro/night) and Standard (56 Euro/night), but got 10 % discount by staying almost two weeks. Suite Room is nice with own terrace, but it got only one sun lounger, so the one of us had the lie on the floor sunbathing. In both room types the sheets and towels are changed only every three days “for environmental reasons”. However, by paying money, you get both sheets and towels changed more often, so forget about the environment! The Standard room was really small, also television in a room was so tiny you could not watch it lieing on the bed.

What really bothered us in this resort was that there were so many house rules in this resort that sometimes you felt unsure what were the things that ARE prohibited to do! For example I am almost 35 years old, but in the resort it was prohibited to bring any hard liquor to hotel room, however by paying 500 pesos this was allowed. Pool towels were only to be used by the pool, so you must buy or bring your own towels if you want towels for the beach. Hair dryer is not included in the room amenities, so you have to pay the deposit of 500 pesos for it and the pool towels, which again we found very weird. Rules go on, uncooked food is not allowed in the hotel rooms unless you again pay 500 pesos fee. Still there is a rule that guests are responsible for their actions in the hotel property and if something will break etc. you will have to compensate. Also it was not prohibited to do big pieces of laundry (I don’t know which was the right size to do laundry).

In the Suite room there is your own bath, and hotel also provided bottle of shampoo. My husband used the house shampoo as bath foam within the first 3 days, and we were left waiting for the refill. Days went by and no refill came and on the 10th day I had to go to reception and say that we haven’t got a single refill. I guess the shampoo was meant to be for the whole stay, and we were not given refills not until I went to reception and asked for it and got half a bottle.

Also there were little things in the hotel , that didn’t work as they should. For example one morning there was quite a big animal poo on our roof terrace. On the way to breakfast I asked the reception that could housekeeping clean the mess from the terrace. Well, during the day housekeeping has been to our room, but nobody cleaned our terrace. So, I have to walk to reception again and tell again. And this is not one example when you have to tell them many times, because things are not done.

It feels like living in the Flintstones house which is kinda funny. I don't know if the place is artsy (the pictures for sale seemed very unprofessional, fast, unimaginative ones) but abit different from the usual hotel anyways. Lots of bugs and the price doesn't really meet the standard (towels have stainds, it's a bit untidy place, small pool, VERY expensive spa treatments). But the staff was friendly and they made excellent homemade cookies :)

Internet doesn't work inside the rooms though promised and poorly in the main areas as well.

This hotel was a total disappointment. The pictures may look good, but it is absolutely far from the actual truth.

From my experiences in the Philippines, Service and Hospitality is what keeps me coming back again and again. This hotel has absolutely ruined that reputation for myself as well as my group. It may not seem fair to say that all the staff were rude, but their “Manager” Gina was absolutely atrocious and incompetent. She single handedly ruined the reputation for me and I would never, ever deal with her again.

This hotel also has quite the flaw in which is not advertised, The price may seem reasonable until you arrive and see what charges they have in store. We rented 3 rooms, all with paper thin blankets, sheets and towels that were stained. They DO NOT change your sheets except after 3 days of stay, and when we requested to get the stained sheets and blankets changed, there was a 200 PHP charge for each sheet and blanket. I understand about being eco friendly, coming from Vancouver Canada where sustainability is a huge part of life and business, but this was absolutely ridiculous to not change stained and dirty sheets. They also charge for pool towels, sheets, extra towels and they do not provide any shampoo, conditioner or lotions that all of the other hotels do, even the budget ones.

Our rooms (2 Superior Deluxes, 1 Garden Cottage) were a decent size and was alright, besides the stained sheets and towels that we had throughout our 5-Night stay. However, even for a tropical hotel, there was an excessive amount of insects like mosquitoes, cockroaches, centipedes and ants (to name a few) that get into the rooms and all the people in our party usually woke up to 6-15 insect bites a night.

As for the food, they offer a free breakfast in which our experience was nothing short of disappointing as well. Every morning that we ate breakfast at the hotel (total of 3/5 mornings), they never had the full menu available. One of our party members also had his breakfast forgotten and not served to him, without any compensation to a breakfast or a small snack.

Our transfers for the hotel was arranged for the pick-up but was not booked for the transfer back to the airport on our departure, So when we booked the night before, Gina the manager, arranged the transfer and was absolutely rude to me about it saying that I should have said I needed a transfer back on our departure date, even though in our emails together said we needed both, as well as HER request for our arrival time information as well as our departure time information which I sent. Though, even when she requested our departure time, she still tried to tell me that it was my fault even when it clearly stated in the email that we requested both transfers.

After about half an hour of frustrating conversation stating my alleged faults with this incompetent individual, I paid for the transfer and had it arranged for 8am the next day. Surely enough, after our last breakfast, the transfer van was LATE and Gina did not even set it up properly.

Overall, I would definitely NOT RECOMMEND this to any family, friends or fellow travelers, whether you are local or a foreigner.

Bohol is a beautiful place to go. Lots of marine life with Whale sharks just a boat ride away. After spending time on this island, I discovered way better deal hotels throughout the island that had better service and more decent accommodation for the same or even less price than this hotel.

As a Filipino Canadian, I take pride in the Filipino hospitality when I bring my friends and colleagues on vacation with me to our beautiful country. This hotel has ruined not only its business reputation, but also the reputation of the people of Bohol. I will never do business with this location again and will extend my opinions and recommendations to all the connections and business associates that I have.

We were a group of 6 traveling for our 3rd time to Philippines. This time, we chose Panglao. However, one of us had to cancel the trip due to a family problem. Charts resort were not only not understanding, but they made US (the rest of the group) pay FULL STAY (3 nights) for the couple that couldn´t come, even if his room stayed free and thus, available for renting. When we told them they should sort that out with the person that had cancelled, they told us they had already charged their amount in our credit cards that we had given as guarantee. We never gave authorization for that and I doubt this is a legalized procedure where you get charged other rooms just because they are your friends.

Apart from this detail, that was already very disappointing, WIFI was not working, not only in the rooms, but in the whole hotel during all our stay. When we commented the detail, they said the problem was from our computers, no their wifi (4 computers not working?). So the day that we were leaving, we asked them if we could do the check in on line from their computers and they said NO, because their computers couldn´t go into the web pages we wanted to use (airline web page).

In the bar of the hotel, we went to have a drink and they offered us a list of cocktails. When we asked for the ¨Charts special cocktail" they said: sorry, but we dont know how to make this cocktail. Actually it ended up they didnt know how to make any cocktail, so the list was just decoration.

I could keep on going, writing about how unhelpful the staff and the manager were at this hotel throughout our stay, but I think you can get an impression.

Its not a cheap hotel, so I really wonder why they don´t make an effort to make it the paradise they sell it is.

I would for sure, never go back, and strongly recommend you look for another place where to spend your money. Panglao is a lovely place, beautiful specially for divers and has many options of hotels, much cheaper.

I booked this hotel based on the generally favorable reviews here. Bad mistake.

I arranged for airport pick-up but our flight got delayed for three hours. Hell we were even diverted to Cebu for refuelling! They told me I owed them a cancellation fee of 200.00 Pesos because the driver went to the airport but we weren't there. I protested quite strongly about this and they finally agreed not to charge me the fee. But to even suggest such a thing after knowing what we had to go through to get there? Tip: it's actually cheaper to pay one of the cars at the airport to bring you to the hotel.

The food was not good at all. Our first meal was rice and chicken curry and a sandwich. The rice was of poor quality and the chicken curry was mostly potatoes with some bits of chicken breast. The sandwich was hardly better. Total bill = 510.00 Pesos!

Breakfast was included in the room rate but we only ate there once. We had sausages with egg and rice and bangus with egg and rice. The sausages turned out to be the local red colored hot dogs and the fish was the head portion of a small bangus split in half. In effect it was 1/4 of a fish! Anyone who has eaten bangus knows that is the least substantial part of the fish. Again the rice was of poor quality. I would be ashamed to serve rice like that to visitors. That was the last time we ate there.

Staff was generally friendly and nice except for one housekeeping staff member who barged into our room without knocking about twenty minutes after we checked in. Even after seeing us, she just went right in after mumbling an apology. She said she was checking the room safe?! Really now, aren't this people supposed to be trained to ALWAYS knock?

On the last night, the power was interrupted for at least 5 times, maybe more. The night before there was a power interruption already and I thought they had solved the problem the next day. It didn't make for a restful night.

The superior room we got was okay. We slept well except for the last night as stated above. Wifi was too weak to almost non-existent inside. The TV was a small CD-R King flat screen..not what I expected for the price. But hey, we came for the beach so that didn't bother me too much. I had to ask for the remote control and they gave me one without batteries in it. But that was quickly solved at least.

The beach was a good 8-10 minute walk and the road was under construction which made the trek even more difficult. It may seem a short distance but try walking under the full blast of the Philippine tropical sun and the distance seems to really stretch. By the way, the hotel is right beside the road so expect noise from road traffic.

No complimentary water and the price for bottled water they charge is ridiculous. They gave us one bar of soap for our entire stay, no shampoo, lotion, or conditioner.

All in all, I cannot recommend this place. I don't understand why there are so many good reviews here. There are other places nearer the beach which are worth exploring.

The hotel is situated almost at the end of Alona Beach, relatively far away from the beach. Beeing located directly at the main Panglao access street the hotel is very loud due to the heavy traffic. The owner, a German woman is trying to make money fast. Everything offered in the hotel is more expensive than anywhere else in Alona Beach. She is offering also tours and diving, but you might get much better deals in Alona. For example I paid much more than any other guest for a snorkeling tour only because I booked the tour in Charts and the other guests booked it directly in the diving center.

I am stingy with my "Excellent" reviews because to me that means "perfect," and since we're by the beach, what would make this place "perfect" is beach access. But, do read on, because (and let's be honest) what is beach access when service or value are not good? I should also mentioned that I stayed in 3 different places during my stay in Alona beach and this is my favorite.

What is to love here: service, facilities, location, amenities, and additional services offered (yes, pretty much everything).

So, on location: even though there is no beach access, the hotel is a straight-shot 5 minutes walk to the beach. Not a problem.

The rooms: I was here during low season, so I had my pick of rooms, and did look at all
of them. All the rooms are very spacious, nicely decorated, clean, and neat. Definitely a boutique hotel at it's best, plus the whole place is decorated with great local art readily available for purchase at reasonable prices. I did not buy anything for lack of space, but really considered it.

Service: service is really great too. Note: apparently it is changing owners (currently owned by a German lady and about to be taken over by a Chinese group), so you never know what you'll come to later.

Costs: great value. I paid around $40/night (note again it was low season). But, it's definitely a good prices. It also has the most reliable internet. Do ask for offers when you're there.

Bonuses: the Art-cafe and the Spa has a good selection. I had a session with Luis, who happens to be a physiotherapist, etc, etc, and he was great! More than just a massage, which given that i exercise a lot is exactly what i need.

We staid at chARts resort for one night upon our arrival at Panglao beach. The room was spacious enough, the pool was well-placed and it was great to have dark (German) bread in the morning. Our main disappointment was the impression that the 'our pick' recommendation in the Lonely Planet seems have pushed prices up to the point where they were high for the space and quality offered when compared to neighbouring resorts. I'd recommend checking into another hotel and coming here for the coffee and the bakery!

I stayed at Charts with some of my friends a few months ago and I was so disappointed with the experience. I am really not fussy but I had to write a review as I was not happy with my stay there.

Firstly the positives. It is very pretty, clean and nicely laid out. The pool is very small but refreshing after a day in the sea and the breakfast is okay.

The not so great parts.

It is quite a long, hot walk to the beach. The service was really poor. By 5-6pm everything is shut. Like you cannot order food, you cannot order drinks or even buy a bottle of water after 6pm. So you have to go out of Charts and find somewhere else to get served which is a real hassle if you just want to chill out without having to go out every night. Even in the day time the bar area is never manned and there are very few staff around to help you.

On my last day in Charts I had just gotten back from the beach and was packing up my things to check out when I realised that money had been taken out of my purse while I had been out. It had defiantly been taken! So I went straight to the manager and informed her. They told me that although the cleaners had been in my room while I was out they were 100% sure I was mistaken as they had never had an incident of theft in their hotel before. The manager was really rude to me and basically accused me of lying! It was only 20 pounds that was taken and I didn't think that they would get it back for me but I did want to be taken seriously and the incident should have been properly investigated as clearly one of their cleaners had taken the money. The manager seemed to think that I was lying about the money to get a discount off of my room bill. It was so amazingly insulting!! The way it was handled was a total nightmare. I have never had an experience like it before. I left all my contact information for the owner (who would not come out and talk to me) and asked if they could get in touch we me so I could speak to someone else about the incident and the way it was handled but of course no one ever did contact me.

I hate confrontation and would never had made a complaint unless I was 100% sure that I had been robbed so to be treated in such a way was really upsetting.

If you do stay at Charts then make sure you always always bring any cash or valuables with you when you go out as there are not safes in the rooms. The staff there really need training in customer care!!!
