Detailed Reviews
My family of two adults and three kids stayed in the family apartment for four nights. The facilities were very spacious and clean. Since we were all able to stay in one unit we were able to save money rather than renting two rooms elsewhere. The pool is awesome and built into an underground grotto. Very interesting. The restaurant on the resort is reasonable priced for breakfast and has an espresso machine for good coffee rather than the ubiquitous instant Nescafe stuff everywhere else.
So based on the experience of the accommodation it is a good deal.....but
The big problem I had was credit card fraud. The only time I used my credit card in the Philippines was to pay for the bill at this resort. All the other purchases were done with cash. But the day that I came back from the Philippines my credit card fraud department called me to notify me that someone was trying to buy $7000 worth of airline tickets on Cathay Pacific (Asian airline) from a travel agency in GERMANY!!
Guess what? The owner of the resort is a German married to a local girl. There was also another German man working in the dive shop. So I have no proof that this resort is connected with the credit card fraud. Maybe it was all coincidence???? Yeah right!!
Also read the other review regarding the motorcycle.
So fellow tripadvisor travelers... just be careful with the plastic at this resort.

I scouted several websites in search for a comfortable and private hotel for our honeymoon. While the really amazing accommodations may have been the most ideal, My husband and I decided not to spend an insane amount of money for a week's stay in Bohol.
Sun Apartelle was the most attractive resort for us. We liked the idea of having a fully equipped kitchen in the very large studio type room. We wanted the freedom of not having to "dress up" just to eat breakfast, or have to look through a menu every time we wanted to eat.
Each room is cheerfully decorated, equipped with a working kitchen, living room with cable TV, a stereo, balcony with dining table and clothesline, a large king size bed, air conditioning and ceiling fan, larger than average bathroom (with hot and cold shower). What you see on the website is exactly what you will find in real life.
The apartments are inside a gated area with it's own landscaped garden, restaurant, pool, dive shop, laundry service & friendly reception area.
The room is about 45-55sq.m. (maybe even 60sq.m.). Very clean. All lights, fixtures and appliances are in good working condition. There are enough plates for 4-6 people and all the cookery you will ever need to cook or heat up food.
We came just before the peak season, so it seemed that we had the hotel and the beach all to ourselves!
Alona beach is a bit of a walk from Sun Apartelle (about 5 to 10 mins), but it's just enough to get you warmed up for the beach activities. And when you're on a vacation, who's counting the minutes?? Once you reach the beach all the services will be offered to you. A tour of the country side? A snorkeling trip? Dolphin viewing and Island hopping? A massage on the beach? Rent a car, a van or a bike? Whatever your fancy, these services will come to you. If you are hungry all the restaurants will offer fresh seafood grilled to your liking. You hardly need to exert an effort to get things done at Alona Beach.
The people are so friendly and helpful all you really need to do is ask...even if you don't ask they will offer you something uniquely Bohol.
My husband and I decided to ditch the car tour and visit the Bohol countryside by motor bike. If you are good on the bike, can wake up early, and have a taste for adventure, we suggest you rent a bike (P400 + gas for the trip) for 8 hours and head to chocolate hills, loboc river (for lunch), tarsier reserve, Baclayon Church and all the other tourist attractions along the way.
Plan ahead and buy some food at the Tagbilaran city grocery to stock up on food for days or nights you want to stay in.
Explore Panglao island and try to find its fish market for your meals. On our way to the beach there's a "Lechon Manok" shop where you can buy a whole chicken (and rice) that can be your lunch and dinner. There are also German, Italian, Swiss and Filipino Bars and restaurants along the way.
We really enjoyed our honeymoon at Sun Apartelle, so much so we almost didn't leave when it was time to move on to the next adventure! The two things we found difficult at Sun Apartelle were the stairs to the 2nd floor apartments (they're large steps (for really tall people), and the temperature of the room. Even though the room has air conditioning near the bed and a ceiling fan in the sleeping area, the room just doesn't get cool enough in the afternoons. Evenings are okay, but when it's really hot, it's really hot. We managed to use my sarongs to shield us from the sun shining through the frosted glass doors.
We're glad we trusted our adventurous spirit and stayed at the Sun Apartelle. We would really recommend this place for honemooners, divers, foreigners visiting the Philippines.

My girlfriend and I stayed just stayed her for 10 days and it was pleasant. The room is large with a decent kitchen which we used quite a bit to keep down costs. The balcony was nice and the free wifi signalin the room was pretty strong by Filipino standards. The furnishings in the room were in good shape. No problems with housekeeping.
The pool was well taken care of and we used it every day. I really like the Biergarten attached to the hotel. They had draft beer which is hard to find in the Phils. The breakfast was pricey but first rate and and we had several dinners there. I had the German dishes and my girlfriend had the Filipino ones and they all ranged from very good to excellent in quality. The only downside is that they can play some awful music much too loud, but they always accommodated me when I asked to them to change the music or turn it down.
I paid cash because of a previous review on this site. I also used the dive shop for about 10 dives and had absolutely no problems. The shop is Austrian run and the Filipino divemasters were friendly and professional.
The beach is about a 8-10 minute walk from the hotel. Hotels closer to the beach in my price range were smaller and didn't have a kitchen. For divers, I think that this hotel is a good choice.

We stayed at Sun Apartelle in July 2010 and we enjoyed our stay. The room was OK. It's nice to have your own kitchen area and the shower was good, however the toilet was a bit smelly and the double bed was two single mattresses pushed together, which causes an annoying ridge in the middle. The security was good and the staff at the hotel were friendly. The pool area is really nice and relaxing and is shaded and the gardens are beautiful, with lots of birds and butterflies. It takes around 5 minutes to walk down to the beach and it is quieter than the beachside resorts.
The one problem we did have was with the dive shop (Sun Divers), which is attached to Sun Apartelle. We tried to rent a motorbike from them which wouldn't start up. The man who owned the dive shop said we should put gas in, and it would be fine so we walked it down the road, filled it with gas and it still wouldn't start (turned out to be an electrical problem). We took it back and the owner of the dive shop wouldn't refund us the gas cost, which he had told us to put in the bike! We thought this was really cheap and subsequently didn't book any tours with them. It's a shame that he had such a poor attitude.
All in all we may stay again, but like others have said (and especially if you book in the low season) you could book one night and then negotiate a better rate, which would make it more value for money.

We stayed 6 nights in a beautiful apartment. The rooms are big, clean, beautiful. The pool is also great. The room service is excellent. The restaurant next door serves very good food. Great Wifi. There is also a convenience store and a dive shop on the premises. We loved everything about this place.

My fiance and I booked Sun Apartelle online, ~ 70 Euros per night for 4 nights.
Having arrived, we went into the apartment.
The curtains didn't cover the windows, the linen was dated, the toilet didn't smell too good etc.
It was clean and reasonable otherwise, but a bit dated and shabby.
We checked out in the morning, paid the penalty, and stayed in the new bilding at the Alona Kew Hotel.. Next to the beach, really nice, same price....
The rest of the 4 nights stay was great!

Stayed 5 days in November 2009, Staff very friendly and professional, rooms are close to European standard, AC, hot water, wifi and cable actually work, all is clean and kitchen complete. ( needs a coffee pot) The pool set in a collapsed cave is very, very nice and shaded by numerous trees and palms. Grounds are first rate. There are safety issues where the pool abuts the cave, a child could tumble off either side of the walk with disastrous results, but children should never be around a pool unsupervised anyway. We were able to save resturant expenses by cooking. Location is quiet compared to the beach hotels. All in all I highly recommend. My only beef is that I made a mistake booking online, for that meant I was charged over twice as much as walk ins I spoke with who negotiated. Also the credit card machine " does not function" however there was none of the trying to add on charges that seems common with resorts. I would suggest maybe book only one night online if you must, but then negotiate, or move to lower scale digs if budget is an issue. We really liked it, felt safe and in good hands. I might have liked it better at a discount, but we made the deal online, so we all kept it.

We booked this hotel as it is an apartment with a kitchen and while on holiday it's nice to be able to have the facility to cook rather than eat out all the time.
The room was clean and well equipped with a TV, DVD player, CD player, sofas and a fully equipped kitchen. The kitchen items were basic but everything was there to easily cook a meal.
When we arrived the room wasn't ready so we went to the attached restaurant which served some lovely food (how people can complain I don't know). The pancit canton was the best I've had in a Western/Filipino restaurant!! Afterwards we went to the pool area however it looked quite dirty, full of leaves and a layer of oil (maybe washed off sun cream) on top of the water, so we didn't use it while we were there.
The ladies at reception were lovely, we were told when we checked in that if we have any questions we should ask them which we did. It was nice to be told this. Sometimes you feel like a pain asking all the time but the staff were more than willing to help and with a smile too.
We wanted to pay our room with a card however the machine wasn't working so we had to traipse to the ATM unexpectedly.
To conclude I would stay there again, it would just be nice for them to clean the pool

The Hotel is on the main road 10 min walk from the ugly Alona beach.
We stayed 7 nights there (July/August 2013).
The rooms are ok but need a renovation which is ongoing soon (staff told us this).
The only negative thing is that the chicken woke us up every day at 4pm.
The restaurant is good, inexpensive and the staff is efficient.
The pool is great, the staff was really kind they did everything for us even climb on a coconut tree to take us some cocos.
Take care if you pay by card they charge a 7% comission (not good).
There is also a good Dive center in the Hotel called Sun Divers with really good dive guides
