I’ve been this place when I was travelling around Philippines and is been my favourite hostel during my trip in this amazing country, probably because I’m in love with the hammocks.
The location is perfect but what is making the real difference is the staff, Nathan is just the best.
Thanks for everything.

I came to Alona Hammocks because I wanted a place to chill out, and I was not disappointed. In fact, instead of 2 days, I stayed a week! A quick warning to people who are looking for the more luxurious end of a hostel: this might not be for you. The beds are thin and on the ground (which I didn't mind, but be aware), the bathrooms are no-frills, and the shower is a janky outdoor thing (again, I didn't mind, but you might). At first, I was a little skeptical about being hot during the night-- there's no air con, and only a couple fans for all the people sleeping there? I was doubtful. But I shouldn't have been! With the upstairs being so open (but also protected if there's rain, like there was the last night I was there), there's a nice breeze that comes through and keeps things from getting too hot.

Everyone who works here is so friendly and caring. When I first arrived, I'd just been burned by a motorbike exhaust (I know, so typical), and Nathan and Christine went to the pharmacy for me and got a burn cream for me, and Jenn, the Australian who's been caught there, helped me dress the wound more than once-- totally above and beyond anything I was expecting!

It's a great place to meet other travelers; the dorm itself is big and open, so it's conducive to meeting people, plus the common area has a couple hammocks and tables, plus long seats in front of the TV, and seats at the bar...it's easy to get to chatting! Every night, Jenn knows something happening somewhere around Alona, and can direct you all over the area (she really knows her stuff, she's been there for 5 months); she even organized an Alona-wide barbecue which had a ton of homemade food and bbq for a really reasonable price, and it was a chance to meet people at other hostels.

I've seen some people complain about the wifi, but it's fairly dependable, especially for the Philippines. I've had much worse connections at much more expensive hostels here, and at least you have a connection in the dorm, whereas a lot of places only have it in the common area. I also know that the owner is not cheaping out on the wifi, and has spent a lot of time and money to get a better connection, but you just sort of have to accept that's the way things are in the Philippines. Like I said, I thought it was pretty okay for the region, and it didn't continually shut down or kick me off the way other hostels wifi has, so overall I think it's pretty good.

Breakfast varies every other days, and is good; the pancake is a fluffy american-style pancake, and is hearty! The other day's breakfast is eggs and toast, which is pretty standard. Each breakfast comes with a banana, and there's instant coffee, and there's free filtered water all day.

I can't forget to mention Hammie, the Alona Hammocks cat, which is the chillest cat I've ever seen, he's the perfect hostel cat because he'll let you pet him and pick him up if you want, but won't bother you if you're not a cat person. He's super sweet!

I highly recommend Alona Hammocks for anyone looking for a place to get to meet other travelers as well as locals, especially if you're okay with "roughing it." I had a great week there, and would definitely stay again if I find myself in Panglao again! Thanks for everything, guys :)

For now we have already stayed there for 3 times, and we will keep going there for sure whenever we'll go to Panglao ! :)

First of all, it is so cozy! When you go there, you will feel like at home or at some friends' place! The owner of the Hammocks always welcomes you and gives 110% to make you feel great. Secondly, the price list is THE cheapest you will ever find in Panglao. The location is also perfect - little bit hidden, but at the same time walking distance away from the beach and bars, clubs. Of course you have to be prepared for sleeping outside, but don't worry - they have mosquito nets for everybody :)
If sleeping in a hammock feels little bit too much work for you, they can provide you with a mattress too.
Breakfast is nice! And everything else too !! Now they have an adorable little kitten called Alona living there also :D It's fun to play with her!!
Keep up the good work and all the best!!
See you soon !!

Anni & Mihkel :)

I left my camera, 5000 pesos, a credit card in the locker of the hostel and they robbed me of 3000 pesos! I wasn't the only one since another traveller had the same issue: it semt that the owner wanted to refound me but she disappeared. Ugly.

Alona Hammocks has a special place in my heart. Fell in love to this place when I first stayed there ( booked online last minute, 1 slot left!) in February last year and had to go back in December just because I missed Bohol, the staff I made friends with on this place and to feel like home.

It is the best stay I had in the Philippines. Reason being is 1. the staff (Everyone of them speaks fluent English!), 2. the simplicity and 3. the food!

Chad is the bloke who runs the place and he helped me to get the best deal for an island hopping tour and a motorbike I can rent the day I arrived. One of the most humble and honest guy I ever met during my trip to the Philippines.

The place is very nice and simple, funny travel quotes all over the place which is unique compare to my other stays. Very relaxing ambience. Perfect place to chill and is alcohol-friendly! Heaps of books you can read in the living room. Free Wi-Fi! Decent speed!

Free breakfast and free coffee! Food is top-notch especially the banana pancake. My goodness. Love you Rene! ( She taught me how to do it, I got the recipe!)

They recently opened a vegan restaurant there managed by the coolest dude in Panglao named Ludwig. They only serve during the night. I'm telling you guys you will not be disappointed. Affordable price, top-tier quality. You can't even tell if it's vegetable you're eating, it tastes and fells like meat, but it isn't meat! High-key the best dining experience of 2019. Every staff has interesting stories. I remember one of them is very good in poetry and recites it with guests. Dude this place is awesome. UGH

Exceptional. 10/10

I really really liked this hostel. Very simple in a great way... one main dorm and another below.. the dorm is up high in a treehouse (very accessible, not hard to get up) with about 12 beds fully equipped with mosquito beds. They're not bunk beds theyre just mattresses on the ground. Very comfy and cosy. Staff are all really great and friendly. Theres also a kitchen for guests to use and free water. Every morning they supplied free breakfast and coffee too.

Alona Hammocks offers cheap, comfortable accommodation for backpackers, with very friendly staff and a great location.

Great base to have whilst you explore the island. Also a great place to meet fellow travellers, as many people are there alone.

Having thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Batuan branch of Hammocks Hostel (central Bohol), we gave it a try in Alona. It was nice. A lot smaller, but we enjoyed the same concept of sleeping outside and the staff was super nice. We only stayed a night, but the toilets and shower worked fine. There is no hot water, and the flush is "old school", so you should be prepared for simple living.
