No need for long travels to Baguio or Tagaytay to see wonderful sceneries of mountains and trees. With one hour drive, this getaway place is really worth the time to relax and to disconnect from all the hustle and bustle stress in the city. No aircon rooms but fresh air that will definitely give you chills at night. No need for electric fan as well! The hike to Malvar's Peak is also beyond great. I wish we can stay longer. The whole experience made me realize the importance of nature. Literally, back to basic, and yet it was not so bad! it's very humbling especially hearing the personal experiences of the dumagats. The food was also great! kudos to all staff!

We very much enjoyed our stay in Mt Purro. It was our first family trip since the pandemic started and we chose to stay here because it was right at the foot of the Sierra Madre and we wanted the kids to experience nature after having been in various stages of lockdown in the city environment for almost two years. What I liked about Mt Purro is that it offers various activities appropriate for guests of all ages. The kids loved the mud kitchen, the bonfire, and of course, the pool. They also enjoyed the river trek. Definitely, we loved the food! Everything that came out of Loli's kitchen was delicious.

We stayed in the Suite Room. All screened so don't worry about insects. Huge for a family of three adults. The inner room was with two single beds and by the entrance, the living space is with trundle beds for two. We liked to stay in one place so we pulled the lower bed and placed it in the inner room. The room is clean. The bathroom is separated from the toilet. Both are very clean. the outer room was screened and wrapped around veranda-like sitting areas with clean pillows all over great for naps on a cool day. I read the primer thoroughly and brought our own toiletries, including our towels and toilet paper- just to be sure. But there was abundant fine TP in the toilet, and belatedly found a cabinet in the toilet with towels- which we did not use. The outer and inner rooms were sufficiently dark in daylight, good for more snoozes! Reception - On our way, I have been sending text messages to the number on their website. No- I did not get any response. I also sent messages to the Msgr Account- also no responses. They do not respond immediately for some reason. And if they do- it will be very, very late. This is a problem. As guests- this will really try our patience. We arrived at around 1230noon- very hungry. I paid our DP via Gcash and I was told by the reception that I should complete all my payments before getting in. I asked to be served lunch first as we were all famished, the lady told answered a flat no- until somebody from the team told her that we should be allowed to take lunch first and then complete the check-in. I was mortified! Food- lunch, dinner, and breakfast (coffee was bad- sorry) were alright. Home-cooked meals in good serving sizes. Appetizer, soup, salad, main course, veggie dish, rice, and simple dessert. Tables were shared and huge, clean, and done tastefully. The lighting is a bit dim for me. Being a weekend, the owners' family was also dining at another table. It's good to know the owners live in the same place. We felt safe. Lots of cookbooks and knick-knacks on the shelves add to the homey atmosphere. The kitchen staff, mostly women from the community I guess, were nice, respectful, and kind. I love the quiet chatter I hear from the kitchen! So homey! There were just us and a couple staying in for the night. My husband went for the River Walk after lunch, and my son and I went for a swim in the pool. The pool was ok. The River Walk- says my husband is uneventful. Nothing was memorable, in the heat of summer when the water in the river was really low. He also told me he saw a lot of garbage by the riverside. Their guide, a young man, just led the walk, saying nothing in the two hours of the walk. I guess if the reserve would like to add this to their attractions, they should train good guides who can fill people in on the local history, the river, and how the reserve relates to the community they want to help. I felt sick in the afternoon and was promptly attended to by a very good nurse - Ms. Jam. She got my bp, Oxy level, and temp, stayed with me until I got a little better, asked for my needs, and sent me meds. Having a full-time competent nurse staying in the reserve is reassuring! She left me a radio and checked on me from time to time. Thank you so much Nurse Jam! I guess it would be difficult when you are alone and no way to communicate with the staff- could they do something about this? Some thorns on my stay: I have full knowledge that there is no internet nor phone signal in the reserve. I accept that. However, upon checking in at the reception, there were a lot of staff (?) on their phones, apparently connected. It just feels bad that they were connected and the guests are not. When we were about to check out and we asked to be briefly connected to get our MAPS/WAZE working so we can use another alternate way to the main highway. The lady in the reception said they do not know the password! Indeed they do have an internet connection! I hope they can just be a little more discreet about this. On the way to the reserve, there were lots of road work and trucks installing electric poles. But this is ok, this will help the community. I just found that the reserve was along the road- going up the hillside, vehicles going up, mostly trucks and motorcycles made so much noise until the early evening. By 10 PM though, all was peaceful. Our Suite had no hot shower. When I asked why - a lady staff told me the heater was out of order. I asked why were we billeted there when they knew this? I complained by dinner time and they got it fixed while we were having breakfast the next day. Being a senior, the NO AC was alright, but a warm shower by the end of the day is non-negotiable. Again, the nurse kindly allowed me to take my night shower by their office, a little down the road from our Suite. I'm not picky at all, I read all the Rules, The Website Primer, and sat through the briefing before checking in- followed all the rules because we respect the owners and the place. There is not much we can do around really, perhaps, if you come as a group, you will enjoy the facility better. So guests bring your books, ebooks, or download some good movies on your phone - I watched a good one while lounging- it felt great! I'm not much of a trekker, I have asthma. I just want to enjoy some quiet time with my husband and son. And yes- we did have a good time. Thank you Mount Purro owner and staff for sharing your place with us!

If you’re looking to disconnect over the weekend from the hustle and bustle of city life, commune with nature or engage in a variety of activities (river walk, forest/mountain trek, basketball, badminton, billiards, etc.), this is one of the more ideal places to be in. My family stayed in the pavilion dorm (B) over this weekend and the room, while simple and basic, was all rustic charm and clean and we even had a slide to go down from our room! So much fun. In fact, the whole place was just oozing with natural charm and with each turn, you discover something new. The food was excellent (simple and hearty food done to perfection) and more than enough for one person. The staff were all very welcoming, warm, attentive, cheerful and always ready to help. Will definitely be back. Now one of my fave places near the city.

There are lots of activities for the family, couples and even solo travelers (e.g. tree planting, river walk, hiking),they have also corresponding accommodations at reasonable prices. This place is amazing, peaceful and quiet. At night, you will only hear the crickets, bats and the flow of water, make sure to bring extra blankets because it is cold during night time. Most of the dishes that was served are from family recipes and all were delicious. They have hot water for bathing, no wi-fi, no globe network reception. By visiting Mt. Purro you also help the locals, because most of the employees are from the area.

One of the things that we enjoyed at MPNR — and theyre also known for this — is their FOOD. No one can deny that their food although homecooked but very delicious that i could eat literally eat every hour on the hour. The interiors of their room were designed to pay homage to Filipino culture and at the same time blend in with nature. We stayed at the Suite Room. The rooms and bathrooms were clean. My only concern is that the bed setup was a two double bed. In case a family or a couple wants to sleep together, an option to change them to a king sized bed would be appreciated. The rooms arent airconditioned because during the night it could get quite cold until early morning but naps during the day would be difficult because of the heat or rather a lack of cool air in the room. There were lots of activities to do within the premises. Although there were some logistical errors of where some things were — like what if there is a seminar ongoing in their hall, and some kids decided to jump in the trampoline, wont this disturb the attendees OR ruin the fun of the children? Best to transfer the trampoline to a more fun location. Others can opt to swim, do zipline, or mingle with the Dumagats during weekends. The owners of the place made almost everything great, except one thing — SERVICE. The staff must have stayed too long with their employers so they have become complacent and apathetic to customers. One, checking in was a nightmare when all you wanted was for the lazy front desk “Ate” to give you a call if by any chance the room was cleaned and that we can already check in because we arrived pretty early and a sleepy-cranky toddler is not something everyone wants to put up with. One. Just ONE CALL. Nope. We had to go back and forth climbed up and down the steep steps only to find out that we still cannot check in because the cleaning lady hasnt started yet. We went back to the front desk at 1.30pm to ask again and lo and behold, it was indeed ready even though they said that check in is strictly at 2pm. 1) Why have they never called me? 2) Why were they suddenly flexible when they insisted on a 2pm check in time? I guess a sleepy-screaming toddler was what it takes. Remember when i said that the food was delicious? I am not taking it back. But you may want to be wary of the SERVERS who serve your food. One time i asked for an extra plate for my son, and this waitress gave me a stink eye and said, “Para saan?” Well, to EAT, if you must know what it was for. Who the heck answers “Para saan” when asked for a plate? This was rude. And conversing with the gay server was weird. He asked some odd questions that were none of his business. I hope they teach their staff some manners. I have a feeling these staff are helpers who merely completed grade 1 level of studies. I completely understand that you can hire non graduates as helpers of your house and i am not discriminating against that. But if you are running a for-profit company, you better make sure your staff are better than grade 1 graduates.

We stayed in a Suite Room. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the room was huge, with a livingroom, a small dining table and lots of seating area. The bathroom is inside the bedroom. It was good that the toilet was separate from the shower, in case there are many people sharing the room. There was no television and poor internet signal. But plenty to see and do around the property. Water pressure was strong. The whole room was clean. If you get cold easily, bring extra comforters. There is no airconditioner but it can get really cold at night.

I came across Mount Purro while searching for a unique resort experience to share with my family foroffer. The only difficulty I came across with was getting answers to my questions and booking, because it took several days before they would respond. Make sure to check the inclusions and advisory given on the website because the resort is true to its thrust of providing only the bare necessities. It is not a luxury resort but rather it aims to bring people back to nature. So bring your own towels, toiletries, blankets, flashlight, etc. The resort is located about 1-2 hours from the city and though the directions given were good it is advisable to do the drive while there is still some light. There is ample gated parking areas. Upon arrival guests are briefed and shown a video of the i resort’s history, the resort policies and their importance in keeping the place one with the environment. One will pass by Loli’s Kitchen/“mess hall” where all meals are eaten. Food are not allowed in the cottages and sleeping areas. Wear comfortable shoes and bring bags you can easily carry as the walk to the cottages are not cemented and flat. The structures were built to blend in with nature, and made of wood. I loved our cottage! We got the loft cottage which was more than adequate for our family which included 9 adults and 2 kids. It was built in the tradition of a nipa hut with a huge open space where several mattresses were scattered strategically, one separate bedroom and a wooden staircase leading to the loft where more mattresses were available. I was so glad we had two comfort rooms which was very convenient. The windows were open with nets (some areas need repairs); allowing the cold night breeze in, there was no air conditioning but nobody minded because it wasn’t necessary. Since there were numerous activities which came with our package we started at once by going on a short hike within the compound. The climb was slightly difficult because it just rained and the ground was wet. We had a 3 year old with us; I wouldn’t advice bringing a child less than 7, fortunately, we had a guide who was very patient. Besides the activities the resort offered there was also a swimming pool, playground, and game room. Dinner was served buffet style at Loli’s Kitchen, and it was delicious! I can honestly say that the meals were among the best experiences we had at the resort. It was simple Filipino fare but ingredients were fresh and everything was wonderfully cooked. Make sure to come early because sometimes they run out of certain dishes; though food is more than enough for everyone. We were lucky they had a bonfire that night but I wish they had more marshmallows and hotdogs for sale, we didn’t bring our own and only a limited amount was available onsite. The next day we watched a Dumagat cooking demonstration. It was fascinating to see how they are able to cook chicken and rice using bamboos. We were also able to try the short zip line ang check out their very creative playground. We loved the food so much we even stayed for lunch before we started our way home. It was a great bonding experience for the whole family, what made it even better was seeing the kids enjoying life’s simple pleasures without their gadgets and cellphones.
