#1 of 15 B&Bs / Inns in Gioiosa Marea
The 4-star Borgo San Francesco is a newly restored charming residence with a cluster of little villas (once farm houses) and private patios and gardens that have an exclusive feel to them. There is also a pool conveniently situated where the sun always shines and a charming restaurant with floor to ceiling windows that greatly enhance the eating experience during the summer. Our restaurant is committed to making sure you experience the full plethora of Sicilian foods and wine, serving above all, country- style local dishes. We specialize in the essence of traditional, local cuisine using only the freshest products sometimes grown only a few km from the Borgo. While being immersed in this enveloping atmosphere, one is also in close proximity to the charming seaside town of Gioiosa Marea (only 4 km away, of mostly straight roads) and can conveniently visit other areas of Sicily while using our Borgo as a base for planning trips, as well as a calm, serene place to return to. There is also a common room with a fireplace, a reading area with many books and maps on the area and the island on whole and internet point.

This place is a find. We wanted a location to be able to relax away from the norm. This hit the mark in every way. It is equal distance from Catania and Palermo airports. We didn't hire a car and it is recommended that you do but we managed through transfers and taxis (the team will organise for you if needed). The place is a good base for travelling out and seeing some great locations we did the aeolian islands in a day and there are some great beaches around. The apartments (about 6 in total) are set in idyllic surroundings and are very clean and well provisioned with a small kitchen (and a good size fridge) if you fancy cooking. Good sized comfy beds and clean modern bathroom. We had air conditioning in each room which was a god send. Each room has a little terrace where you can sit out and have a cheeky glass of wine if you want to. The rooms are cleaned daily. We were half board but there is a Conad supermarket 10 mins away in Gioisa that has everything you need. The restaurant is clean and managed by Antonio and food cooked by Pepe both do there jobs very very well. Nothing is too much. The food we had was traditional sicilian fare mostly, cooked fresh and very good. When all apartments are booked it gets busy but the ambience is enough to enjoy the wait. We ordered pizzas and arancini some days during lunch and the price for these were cheap. The gardens are beautiful and the walk down to the pool is great. Plenty of steps to work off the pasta. Only downside was the mosquitoes so make sure you have enough spray as they are persistent blighters. Pool is cleaned daily and is an adequate size with enough beds surrounding it for all patrons to enjoy the panoramic views. You'll need swimming caps to use the pool and the front office sells these at 2 euros each. Staff are friendly and are happy to chat. All in all a fantastic find in an idyllic location. Absolutely recommended and we will be back. Grazie mille for a fantastic stay.

Spent 10 very enjoyable days with family. Clean rooms, great food and nice swimming pool. A very relaxing and tranquil location. 10 minutes drive from beach, also did day trips to Etna (just under three hours)and Taromina (just under two hours). Antonio and the rest of the staff really go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, and always have good suggestions for activities.

Lovely stay. Nice room. Just loved the restaurant. They took so much pride in producing local Sicilian cuisine with ingredients sourced literally at their doorstep. Excellent tranquil location. Good base to explore the north of the island. Huge thanks to Antonio, Irene and all the staff.
