I booked three nights at Crystal Paradise during mid February as a romantic getaway for me and my girlfriend. On arrival everything seemed fine with the friendly staff, welcome drink and introduction. However on closer inspection the resort seems in need of an overhaul.
The room (deluxe) was pretty basic, with a very small toilet and shower (no hot water) and little or no reception on the satellite tv. The general decor was shabby but clean at least.
The pool was dirty and unattended, the beach wasnt really a beach at all, there was a pool table and table tennis table in reception but poor quality sports equipment.
In general it didnt live up to my expectations I got when looking at the website beforehand.
On the plus side I thought the food was ok and not too expensive which was good as nothing else was within easy walking distance.
We did take the day trips to Turtle Island and Estrella Falls which we both enjoyed and the lunch on both occasions was plentiful and tasty.
I cant fault the friendly staff who did everything they could to make us feel welcome and the valentine dinner was nice enough but for the overall cost I dont think it offered real value for money compared to other resorts i have stayed at in the Philippines.

Two tips:
One is take plenty of cash before you leave Puerto Princesa as the only 2 x ATMs within 10km were both out of action the whole time we were there.
The other is that you can take a local bus/minivan (10 seater) from the Lexus terminal in PP to Narra for around 300Php per person, which is a lot cheaper than the hotel transfer. Ask any tricycle driver in PP to take you to the bus terminal, the vans seem to run south every hour or so.

When we discussed our trip with someone living in Manila and mentioned the Crystal Paradise in Narra- he said it was the most untouristy trip he had ever heard of. Yes the hotel is far from the maddening crowd- about 2 hrs south from Puerto Princesa, Palawan. If you are looking for wild parties, bars, "the strip" this place isnt for you. If you are looking for a way to reconnect with yourself and or loved ones then this might be the place to do it. The hotel is off the road about 10 minutes by tricycle, on the beach. It is spread over a large area including outdoor pool and jacussi, spa. The beach is black sand and goes on and on with coconut palms. We had breakfast (included) and dinner (a la carte) - well worth while. Food was great, the staff helpful. You can take trips into Narra (about 15 by tricycle) and see the real Philipines. Hint if the villas are available, they are worth the extra expense (my wife wanted to wrap one up and take it home).

When we were there the place was almost empty which made it feel like it was our own private garden and beach. Lovely well kept garden which goes down to the beach. The staff were all young and friendly and fun. Because there were so few guests they didn't have much to do so invited us to do karaoke with them! Not everyone's idea of a good night out I'll grant you. The room in the block was very large and clean with plenty of toiletries but a bizarre bedcover with fish on it rather like a child's. It had a balcony looking onto the garden. I can't remember what it cost but it didn't seem unreasonable. The two young women in the spa were very nice and gave me two amazing massages. You couldn't fault the service anywhere in the resort The food was also good, especially the fish. Tropical gardens, deserted beach, good food, comfortable room, great staff. What's not to like? Well, the mini bus to Puerto Princesa was far too expensive but you can't have everything.

Along with my husband and two friends, I booked to stay at this hotel for two nights from 29 to 31 December.  We booked direct with the hotel and paid a 10% deposit.  We were disappointed on arrival at the resort: we had expected given the prices something quite luxurious and instead the resort looked jaded and worn.  But it was when we were shown the rooms that we decided it simply was not worth the money.  The furniture was stained and dated and the bathrooms clearly hadn't been renovated since the 80s.  When we pointed this out to the staff, they were clearly used to this kind of feedback.  We said that we didn't want to stay and accepted (although we were not very pleased) that we wouldn't get our deposit back.  However, we were then informed because we had 'cancelled' the booking that the full amount for the two nights would be charged to our credit card regardless! Over the past few weeks, we have tried to resolve this amicably but our emails have simply gone unanswered.  We therefore now want to warn future guests about the poor quality of the accommodation and customer service this hotel offers.  We ended up staying at the Macapuno Beach Resort (just 10 minute drive away) which was one of the best hotels we have stayed in and cost a third of Crystal Paradise.

It stareted whit a old ,bad car picking us up at the airport. Only thing good about that was driving was good. Last hour of the driveing ,including the road from main road to the hotel will be wrong to call roads.... Terrible bumy mostly like drive in a constroctiuns road.
At hotel we were met by smiling and friendly staff and had flowers around our neck and show us our room. Romm had a big bed that was good for sleeping and ok ac. Bath rom had a simple shower and a small wash. The furniture was old and made of heavy three. We were told we could be upgradet next day to a villa whith own pool and acept that. There should be a check out that day.next day we ask for upgrade, but then we had to wait one more day. After 2 days we get a villa, whish we saw they was working whit renovation on untill we came whith our luggage.
This villa was nice. Big bed, nice seaviu, own pool, but also here old furnitures in wood, broken wather tap both in shower and the wash.
Food was ok, served by waiters in jeans and t shirt. Spa was good value for the money and if you end up going here it worth a visit. The beach we cuold not use because of to much wawes. They have a snooker table, and table tennis, a old kareoke machin for free use.
The hotel it self is old and worn but the garden is wery beautiful.
Day for chech out we stayd for 45 minust because they say i was the first guest ever ho had pay for my room before i came. I order my room throu lateroom.com and payd when i made my reservation. End of storry was i got so mad that again payd, even i had a resipt, but i wantet to leave that place and go the long bad way back to airport.
Have to send copy of everything to laterooms.com now for try to get back some of my money.
I never go back to this place. Far away from everything. Narra is a wery poor town so be careful go there. Stay in the hotel aera couse there is armed guards.

I was excited to escape to Narra, and chose to stay at Crystal Paradise Resort because of the features described on their website, namely their private beach, swimming pool, and jacuzzi. I didn't mind that the resort was far from Puerto Princesa city, as last fall I had a wonderful experience in Panglao staying at Linaw Beach Resort which was slightly isolated from Alona beach.

Upon arrival, my fiancee and I were impressed with the modern dining pavilion and resort accommodations, and we started planning our stay. During lunch, a staff member informed us that the pool and jacuzzi were broken and could not be used. This was very disappointing because it was one of the main reasons I had booked my stay at a remote resort. Upon later inspection of the pool, the water was brackish and a dark green color, appearing as if it had been broken for some time. During our stay there was no visible effort made in repairing it. I inquired about their timeline of fixing it, and I got a vague answer that seemed as if they intended to leave it as is, perhaps to save on maintenance or utility costs. No effort was made to warn us about this before we made our booking.

We made an attempt to enjoy our stay regardless, and started looking at their available tours. Most tours require a minimum of 4 guests in order for the staff to reserve a tour spot, and these are non-refundable reservations if they can't find enough people. Most tours are also based out of Puerto Princesa proper and require a 4800Php transfer fee for the round trip, which is a 2 hour journey each way. This discouraged us from pursuing any of the tours they offered.

The Resort made reasonable accommodations to our requests, by letting us use one of the pools in a vacant villa, and letting us use the spa jacuzzi free of charge, but these required us to call ahead each time for a feature that was advertised as free-to-use on their website. The friendly demeanor and accommodating personality of the staff is their only redeeming feature, as I had to call and ask for nearly every feature that was advertised on their website. I had to request a hair dryer, mineral water replacement, and facility usage if I wanted any of them, and I needed to follow up with additional requests if I wanted to continue to receive them.

The staff is also extremely slow, with the exception of two of the wait staff, at delivering meals. My fiancee and I waited 2 hours for our dinner on valentines day, and on days where we were the only ones present at the dining facility, we waited at least an hour. The landscaping and housekeeping staff did however seem to be very serious about their jobs and the lawns and gardens were well maintained. We met a friendly Australian man and his fiancee during this time, who were also very disappointed with the resort, especially the fact that the jacuzzi in their private villa was unheated.

If you do stay here, beware of the very tall coconut trees which are directly over all of the main walking paths. My fiancee is Visayan and grew up around coconut trees throughout her life. She informed me that the resort grounds were a dangerous setup, and the falling coconuts could cause death or brain damage.

I would also caution guests to avoid the town market tour, as it may put them in danger. We took this tour, and I received many suspicious looks from the Muslim population there despite being there for only a few minutes and acting with respect. While guests may be at minimal risks, some Muslim groups throughout the Sulu archipelago have been known to kidnap or behead westerners. My fiancee was worried about my safety and immediately took us back to where our trike driver was supposed to be waiting, only to find that they had gone away without texting us. After calling multiple times and waiting roughly 15 minutes, the driver finally arrived and we returned back to the hotel.

That afternoon I had a serious discussion with my fiancee and we both decided that the resort was a major disappointment and we should leave as soon as possible to enjoy the remaining time we had planned for Palawan. We had already booked a 5 day stay and were in our 2nd day, but I decided I would rather leave early and pay the full price for the 5 days than stay there and be miserable. We booked a 2 day stay at Dos Palmas Resort in Honda Bay for the following day and ended up having a wonderful time there. I would strongly caution potential guests from staying at Crystal Paradise until they seriously overhaul their facility maintenance and motivate their staff. Good luck!

I’m not sure what resort the other people who have reviewed Crystal Paradise went to, but it can’t have been the same one I had the unfortunate experience of staying at last week.
Words cannot begin to describe how dreadful this resort is, to start with there’s the bone-jarring two hour minibus trip to get there which is absurdly priced at 2,500 PSO per person, eventually when you arrive at the resort you begin to question the owners decision to build a 'secluded’ (you can replace this with in the ‘middle of nowhere’) resort sandwiched between a mosquito invested swamp and the most unattractive beach I have ever seen, mud, green sludge and rocks is the best description of it. Given how many beautiful beaches there are in the Philippines I can’t imagine why they decided to build it in such an awful location.
I had booked a ‘deluxe’ room which I soon changed to a beachfront villa, the bucket in the shower prompted this move.
Once in the beach villa I decided to run a bath and try to relax a little, I soon changed my mind when the water from the tap ran green/brown and smelled stagnant. It’s obviously pumped directly from the swamp behind the resort.
Of course it was impossible to sit outside because of the magnificent array of local airborne flesh eating insects so I decided to go to the restaurant and have dinner.
This too turned out to be a bitter disappointment, granted the Philippines isn’t renowned for its cuisine but the rubbish that came out of the kitchen after a 30 minute wait was terrible and decorated with bright purple and fluorescent green sauce – I have no idea what this was but everything tasted awful.
One redeeming feature was the trip to the turtle sanctuary, which was on an island with lovely white sandy beaches, a reasonable BBQ and good snorkelling off the beach in the corals and sea grass, but at a cost, 2,500 PSO seemed a little overzealous on the price side and then I was charged extra for the drinks. Ridiculous.
All in all to say I was hugely disappointed would be a massive understatement.

Hello,

I’m a guest of the here above listed resort and do have severe complaints about it.
We (I and 7 team members) spent 2 days but had forecasted since October 2007 to stay there as described in the 4 days SPA Package.
Since the very beginning, we tried to get confirmation and secure payment by credit card but were not successful as after 10 emails and 20 phone calls, we just receive an SMS without having the opportunity to highlight the booking process.
My friend who arrived one day in advance in Manila finaly went to their Manilla office to make sure that we all could get accommodations but also to secure the payment process by credit card.
He was told that credit card payment machine was available at resort and that accommodation into villas closed to beach front were also secured.
Transfer from Palawan to resort was done properly but at that time the lady from resort asked us to get payment by cash only. You can imagine that we didn’t appreciate such a method and we called again for a more secured payment process in order to get evidence of payment.
Finaly, the lady agreed and confirmed payment could be done at resort by credit card.
When we arrived at resort, we were told that a clerk in charge of booking made a mistake so that makes that only two beach front villas on a total of four were available and we had to break our group including children!!!
The second day, we were told again on the web site but it seems that this person is far away from the resort reality as she said that payment is secured by credit card. You can imagine the distance in between her statement and the reality we faced. We also took care to send here an email explaining the situation.
.
that we had to get out of the front beach villas as they made a second mistake in booking!!!
At that time,I have to point out the following:
1) Pool of one beach villa was full of green alga and not clean at all
2) Water pressure was not strong enough to take a proper shower in all villas
3) Water flushing was not working in one flat so you can easily imagine what is linked too
4) Tablecloth at restaurant were not clean at all and we had to eat 3 times on such dirty tables
5) We were charged twice for package and separate items on the bill

So,we decided to get out of this resort and called to secure payment. The lady manager asked again for cash only and after several and long discussion, she finally found out her desk the credit card machine but this one didn’t operate properly.
So we offer to go to a bank to secure payment the following day but as you know, the maximum cash debit is quite amount low in Palawan even we used several credit cards.
We moved to a hotel in Puerto Princessa and by the help of the Astoria hotel manager, we offered to pay the Crystal Paradise bill by using the Astoria finance department channel as an evidence of invoice payment.
This process took a day and we were in touch with Crystal Paradise by cell phone during all this process. We finally made all efforts to cover the lack of Resort payment endorsement.
Again, you can imagine that being on holiday after having travelled for 18 hours we were not expecting such an incomprehensive situation.
We saw posted in all shops that a receipt is mandatory for all payments so why these Crystal Paradise ladies always claimed for cash without offering such a receipt?
Please also note that we reached the owner by phone and this process was also painful. The ladies took time to modify the owner cell phone number on the invoice format they shown us in order to make sure we couldn’t reach her in the US.
We found the correct cell phone n° on their web site.

The story is not at the end as what we faced is an evidence of out of control process by Crystal Paradise resort ladies.
I need again to state that we always offered a secured payment method and these Crystal Paradise ladies always claimed for cash only.
At the end of the day and having kept contact in between parties, we were accommodated by the police at time we came back to the Astoria hotel as these ladies told to the Police that we tried to escape from Palawan without having paid our invoice !!!
We explained all details to the police and we confirmed we were calling for payment and receipt so we used the police channel as we paid the bill in Euro.
We handed over the cash to the police who transferred it front of us immediately to these ladies. We thank the police for witnessing cash transfer.
I took time to record this process on my video camera and the police took pictures of the payment process.
Again, we couldn’t imagine meeting the police on holiday for such a mess in the Crystal Paradise Resort.

This entire process made our time miserable and we lost energy and money to get this story clean and clear.

So, if I took time to explain the situation we faced is only to ensure that as an organization offering bookings at Palawan resorts, you will take the appropriate actions to let this story known by all tourist authorities at Palawan but also to the mayor of the relevant locations.
I do have evidences of all my writings and reserve the right to get them published on Internet on all vacations web sites in several languages.
Before doing this, I would appreciate you to first acknowledge my complaint and secondly to let me know the actions you will initiate to end up such methods which I consider being closer to a gangster organization rather than a resort organization.
Palawan don’t need to count on such resorts as by all travelling around the world for more than 30 years, we never, never had such a feeling being not welcome in a resort.

This place seems to think it is a lot more than it is in reality. The price of a villa with a pool was £147 per night. Yes it includes a very skimpy breakfast. It has got to be the only hotel in the world which offers 2 eggs any style, but dose not know what a poached egg is. The whole place is shabby and run down, the bed is like a slab of concrete. The pool and pool area in the villa is excellent, but this will not justify the lunacy price that they charge. All in all a rundown property at the end (1.5km ) of a dirt track. I would like to say that the staff were very helpful and courteous and a total pleasure. This must be said for all the hotels we have stayed in in the Philippines.

We paid the equivalent of £170.00 per night for an Amihan Pool Villa on a bed & breakfast basis.
Jaccuzi and pool often broke down. Bed linen torn. Television was on a SMART Card basis and stopped functioning.
The Winnery is non existent and the Spa is dirty.
The resort is in need of a serious rennovation and training for staff in customer service.
Think twice before you book.
