The property is located in the south part of west bay, the more residential and quiter side of the west side of the island. It will take approx. 20 minutes to get here from the airport. You might want to calculate 10 minutes more if you would like to familiarize with the driving on the opposite side of the road. Once you get closer to west bay, just follow the direction for batabano and then it would be extremely easy to find it as there are signs that will point you in the right direction.
The property is beautiful and well maintain. It’s on a small lake (former quarry) and in a residential area so it would be extremely quite at night. There’s plenty of parking inside the property. It’s very close to some nice restaurants (Catch, Calypso Grill, Pappagallo). It’s also 5 minutes away from a supermarket and a liquor store (they are both closed on Sunday) and to the north part of Seven Miles Beach, in particular Cemetery beach, which is a great beach with incredible snorkeling.
There are nice and cozy common areas, including the kitchen, the living area downstairs, the veranda (covered patio with protection from bugs all around, so the only thing that you would need to worry about is the breeze), the outside area with the pool, the hot-tub, chairs and also a bbq grill you can use to cook.
The kitchen is open for you to use (microwave, coffee machine, mugs, glasses, etc..) however you are not allowed to use the stove or oven which makes sense in a situation where you are sharing an area with other guests.
We stayed 4 nights in the Poinciana room. The room has plenty of natural light, a nice view on the lake, a nice size bathroom with shower and bathtub and also a window. There are plenty of space for clothes thanks to a full walk in closet. The room has also a fan (the air conditioning is one for the whole house so you cannot control it), a flat screen tv with plenty of channels on the cable and also a dvd players (lots of options to choose from in the library downstairs in the living area) and also a fridge. The room service is daily also.
The breakfast is served between 8.30 and 9.30 and you can choose whether to eat inside or outside in the covered patio. I highly suggest to go outside and the morning breeze is awesome. The breakfast is made fresh every day and you usually have hot and cold options. There are few things that will be served every day (bacon, sausages, cereal) but there are few that changes every day. Leann is a great cook!
Dean, Leanne and Marisa were all very nice and welcoming. Dean gave us the tour of the house when we arrived. He took the time to give us plenty of nice and useful recommendations about best snorkeling spots and beaches, restaurants, supermarket, liquor stores, things to see. They also helped us changing the reservation of the stingray city tour.
They also provide beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, fins and snorkel masks plus some other beach tools like floater bodyboard or similar. In the living area you will find a basket with mosquito repellant, sunscreen, aloe vera, shampoo, etc.. those are free to use.
In the living area, there is also a fridge with water and sodas for purchase (more than honest prices), so if you are thirsty when you get back from an exhausting day at the beach, you can enjoy a refreshing drink. They really thought about everything!

My wife and I just returned from a week on the island. What an incredible island and a beautiful B&B. The innkeepers (George and Maureen) are wonderful people and they both welcomed and treated us just like we were family. This is our first B&B stay and it was everything that we hoped for and more. The accommodations were very comfortable, and an incredible value given the quality of the rooms throughout and that Maureen serves up a delicious homemade breakfast every morning. The one bedroom apartment is huge and has all the bells and whistles. I couldn't see us staying anywhere else on the island on future visits. This portion of West Bay is conveniently located to all of the activities we planned.

We are so grateful we stayed at Shangri-La and had the pleasure of meeting George and Maureen. We kept a busy schedule and took in as much as we could everyday during our visit. Having a place to return to every evening that is like home made for a very relaxing vacation, we look forward to our next visit.

If you're looking to save some bucks in Cayman accommodations and yet stay enjoy all of the comforts of home, then the Shangri-La B&B just might be the place for you. For what you get in Cayman, there just might be no better bang for the buck.

The Breakfast was a real highlight for us. You'd easily pay $20+ (CI) a person to get this kind of meal at a restaurant along 7-mile beach. That's another reason why staying there is a nice way to save some money on one meal a day.

Of course, the location is not going to win you over with romance. Honeymooners would probably be better off paying more to stay in a beach location. However, the beach is only a short drive from the Shangri-La...and you are very close to a lot of attractions in and around the West and Northwest sides of the island.

The local Fisherman's Bar and Grill (just down the road at Morgan's Harbor) is also a reasonably good deal by Cayman standards (e.g. 9 buck hamburgers), if you're looking for a place to each lunch or dinner without spending the big bucks at the more trendy establishments around the Island.

All and all....we had a great 2 nights there at the end of our week in Cayman. About the only thing negative you can say about the place is that it's NOT on the beach. But we had plenty of 'beach' while staying at the Lacovia for the rest of our stay.

This bed and breakfast really is a great find among the overpriced accomodations of Grand Cayman. This hotel is located within a five minute drive of seven mile beach. You don't have to pay for a resort to enjoy the beach. The house is brand new and all the rooms are clean and homey. The breakfast was very good and we felt very much at home. The only problem we had were the neighoring roosters who crowed throughout the night. Other than that, our stay was perfect.

We stayed at Shangri-la from Friday 11/29 through Tuesday 12/2.

We went out and got a bug repellent as we thought we were getting bit from outside; however, we were actually getting bit in the very BED we were sleeping in. We stayed at Poinciana Room. Our bed was infested with bed bug, and I woke up to an unbearable itch from my arms and legs at 4am in the morning with over 100 bug bites all over my body. The bites formed a line and be in a zigzag pattern as shown in the pictures, which is exactly how bed bug leaves bites. It had a burning painful sensation, red itchy bump with a center with soreness. I felt nauseous the whole time. It was THE WORST FEELING you have while vacationing. We know that getting some bug bites were the normal course of vacationing in the Caribbean Islands; however, our bites got worse and worse as we spent more nights at Shangri-la.

The worst part was how the Inn management handled the situation. The manager blamed that I got bit by mosquito when I opened the bathroom window. The window has screen and it did not stay open at all, and I would not expect over 100 bug bites from a brief moment of opening a window. As shown in the picture, they were not mosquito bites, and they were bed bug. I woke up to an unbearable itch, extreme discomfort, and it caused significant disruption to our trip as we had to alter our remaining plans. Moreover, I became scared to go to sleep again as I was fearful that I would get more bites while asleep.

The lack of hospitality and especially putting the blame on the guest made our stay very very disappointing, and the male manager even became defensive and had an attitude when I was explaining the situation, which was quite unprofessional.

Further, initially the manager promised us that they will change the room, but they never did, and they also told us about the one-night refund, which they never issued. All of these things made us lose confidence in their ability to even stick to what they had promised. We also found two female underwear in the room, which made us believe housekeeping was not satisfactory.

Unfortunately, the Inn management did not take the responsibility they should. Had they acknowledge the situation instead of blaming the guest, I would have felt differently about the situation. Based on the above, our stay was extremely unsatisfying and I would not be returning to this place.

My boyfriend and I had such a wonderful stay at Shangri-La during our Grand Cayman vacation. Dean was very welcoming, friendly, and hospitable, giving us a quick tour of the place as well as tips on places to eat and check out when we first arrived. Throughout our stay he was always happy to answer any of our questions.

We loved the breakfasts each morning (thank you again, Venus!), which typically included something egg-y, meats (sausage, bacon, etc), starch (potatoes, hash browns, plantains, etc), sweet (muffins, pastries), as well as fruit, juices, coffee, tea, toast, and cereal options. This was a great way to start our day. We also would chat with other guests and hear about island activities and plans which was nice.

We stayed in the Poinciana room, which had a comfy bed and pillows. It was nice and spacious, and I put to good use the various drawers in the dresser for my clothes and things. I appreciated the mini fridge in our room to keep our beverages and snacks cool. Between our adventures around the island, we liked relaxing around the property. The 2 hammocks by the pond are great, as well as the lounge chairs by the pool. There's a jacuzzi next to the pool, which we enjoyed at the end of the day when it was slightly cooler outside in the shade.

There are bikes available for guests to use, although I highly recommend renting a car - it's way more convenient to get around the island with one. I'm from the US, so driving on the left side of the road was an adventure for me but I quickly got used to it. The roundabouts are a little tricky! Be aware of what lane you are in and where you need to exit the roundabout. Guests also have full access to beach/pool towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, and snorkel gear. Cemetery beach isn't too far from the B&B to get some beach views and snorkeling; there's easy parking on the side of the road.

Thank you again Dean and Venus for such an enjoyable stay!

We could not have been more excited to have a very low key honeymoon at Shangri-La. The reviews were excellent and we are not high maintenance people. We love staying at bed and breakfasts because you usually get: 1) A nice, homey room. 2) A lovely breakfast. And 3) some local expertise about where to go and what to do.

The rooms are small, but not a problem. We were on our honeymoon. Privacy was not an issue. The breakfast, sadly, was...insufficient. Literally all but two of our 7-day stay we arrived on time or early and...they ran out of breakfast. There were not more than 7 people staying there on any given morning. And still, not enough breakfast for everyone. That's just...you're a bed and breakfast, Shangri-La. Get it together. They eventually fed everyone most days, but we opted for cereal a couple of times because we had places to go and things to do.

Finally, the little friendly local expertise that one expects from a B&B...yeah. No. There was a new woman there, Jennifer, who spoke little English and claimed to know nothing fo the island. When we called the manager for help...nothing for two days. The management could not even tell us how to call for a cab.

Grand Cayman seems like a lovely place for a vacation. We may even go back. But there is no way we will stay here again. And, though we love B&B's, we can't recommend it, either. It was a miserable place for us.

Yes the Papaya Suite can accommodate 2 couples. The Bougainvillea room is the one attached to the main suite. The main bedroom/bathroom is definitely larger.

Hello! Thank you for your interest in Shangri-La & in visiting Grand Cayman. As our recent guests mentioned (thanks for your helpful responses!) all of our rooms are totally private with their own full bathroom. The closest beach (and arguably one of the nicest parts of Seven Mile Beach) is just over a mile away (1.3 miles). You can walk, drive, or borrow one of the bikes we make available to our guests to get there. We are situated on a lake and many of our rooms have a beautiful view of it, our pool and hot tub. Our property is conveniently tucked away at the end of a short lane, so you will find that it is very tranquil and relaxing, while being very close to nice restaurants, and the fun activities and attractions of the island. All rooms are equipped with high speed Wi-Fi, a TV, mini-fridge, safe, DVD player (many DVDs in the B&B), hair dryer, ceiling fan (A/C in all rooms). Our two Suites feature en-suite full kitchens and a W/D. We offer snorkelling gear, beach accessories (towels, chairs, umbrellas, coolers, mats, bags, sunscreen), and a diver's secure storage area with a rinsing facility. We have a BBQ and hammocks for our guests to use and the B&B has a common kitchen, dining and living area. Please don't hesitate to give us a call at 941-876-6868 or 345-526-1170, or send us an email if you have any more questions!
