As others have said, clean. Quiet and room size acceptable. Small bathroom, but I have seen worse. They even give you a bottle of water and some jelly beans in the room. No shampoo or conditioner, but that is not unusual in this type of business hotel. Some reviewers have commented on the breakfast buffet; please note that it is not included in the daily rate, but is a reasonable 10E. For Basel, it is a two block walk across the border to pick up the tram to Messeplatz and downtown, around 30 minutes or so. My room was over the Chinese restaurant downstairs and right on the road, but I did not notice road sound nor smell anything from the restaurant.
Chose JFM as a base camp for the Europa League final in Basel. Very good value for money!
Friendly staff with great English language skills.
Good location: trams to everywhere, pub serving food less than a minute walk away, bank, bookies next door, McDonald's (short drive). It also has a Chinese restaurant attached to it but didn't try that.
Hairdryer, TV & coffee facilities in room
Decor a bit dated
Pillows not the comfiest
The light didn't come on in the hall at night so I had to shine my phone to find my room.
The majority of hotels in the area were either charging absolutely ludicrous sums (£750+ per night) or were fully booked for the final but JFM stayed true to its routes; Fair accommodation at a fair price.
I fully expected it to be like a scene from the movie 'Hostel' for what we paid but was pleasantly surprised and left having enjoyed my stay.
As long as you don't go expecting any sort of luxury then you won't be disappointed.
Would happily stay again.
A pretty small room and miserly pillow on a thin (but fairly comfortable) mattress made the JFM an average place to stay, but it was clean and well placed within walking distance of the Swiss border and therefore a lot cheaper than staying in Switzerland. Wouldn't have a problem staying there again...
The friendly staff made check-in smooth and easy. Room and bathroom spotless clean. The room was average size by European standards, minimally decorated, utilitarian in design. Not fancy at all but felt cared for and kept up well. Room view was of the busy courtyard of the apartment building next door. Typical hard bed for the region, desk, wall mounted TV, bright bathroom with shower. Felt very safe walking back to the hotel late at night or leaving for an early morning jog. Upon check-in the gave me a pass to ride the Lorrach public transportation for free during my stay. Bus stop is nearby. It's about a mile or so walk into the center of town with plenty of restaurants and shopping. Basel Switzerland public transportation is three blocks away just over the nearby border crossing. No iron available but they will wash and press your clothes if requested. Did not eat the in-house breakfast. Chinese restaurant connected to the hotel is average but was open late. Avoid the scary bar across the parking lot!
small hotel on the border with Switzerland. very new and nice, big room and good rate.
