Stayed at this hotel on coach holiday to the Austrian Alps. The 2day coach trip to get there was very tiring, especially as the traffic was awful. Only to be expected in peak holiday season. We had an overnight stop in Germany at a nice hotel. The journey was well worth it for the nice hotel and beautiful scenery when we got there. The hotel is clean and we had a large en-suite family room just for the 2 of us. We had a balcony with a mountain view at the back of the hotel.
The food was basic but well cooked and plentiful. We also had a free bar every day. The hotel staff were brilliant. Friendly, helpful and nothing was too much bother for them. We could also make our own packed lunch at breakfast. Fresh rolls, ham, cheese and fruit. They provided cling film and plastic bags. This saved us a small fortune on buying meals at lunchtime. There was also a free soup buffet at lunchtime for anyone not out on a trip and free coffee and cake at 15-30. There was also a swimming pool and sauna at the hotel and a large indoor and outdoor pool about 100 metres away which hotel guests could use free with a card provided by the hotel. The same card gets you a discount in local shops and on the cable cars to the top of the mountain. An experience not to be missed! I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to see the beautiful sights of Austria.
We stayed in the hotel for Christmas 2 years in a row (2015 and 2016). Both visits were awesome and we could hardly find anything we did not like. The hotel is placed in a very good skiing location, not far away from the slopes. It is very well maintained, rooms are clean and quiet, there is sauna and swimming pool, playing room for kids. The only thing I missed was the gym, but considering the skiing every day, I could live without it for few days. The restaurant offers great variety of food - dinner was always great. The wi-fi was sometimes a bit slow though, thus could be improved. Besides that, we were quite happy after both stays and will definitely return back.
Once again it was a National Holidays coach trip. The hotel is divided up into houses, when we arrived we went to the reception which is separate from the main houses. We were issued with our room keys and directed how to get to our rooms. I with most of the other passengers were directed to the house next door to take the lift to our rooms. So as you can imagine 32 people turning up at the same time was a bit hectic. All the houses are inter connected. The restaurant and bar area are on the same floor. If after diner you want to go onto the terrace you are dragged back in at 10 o'clock at night due to complaints about the noise. You can stay in the bar area till the bar closes. We were on all inclusive so when the free bar closed at 11'o clock there wasn't many people left in the bar. Down stairs was a cellar bar with the telly to watch the football (Euro cup was on). the children's play area is down there as well. The hotel has a swimming pool as well but I did not use it so I don't know where it is.
The packed lunch you make yourself at breakfast. If you have lunch in the hotel it is a bowl of soup. On our coach there was a wedding anniversary and a birthday. I (Fred) Peter and Maureen where on the same table as Vanessa and on her birthday there was wine and balloons on the table. We sang happy birthday to her and some German guests clapped as well. ( If the other table members are reading this they can send a review as well). The hotel gives you discount vouchers for the cable cars/ski lifts as well. The hotel and staff were alright. I never used the reception till I took my key back at the end of the stay.
Great hotel staff very good and helpful, free bar and packed lunches on days out. We had a very nice room plenty of space. The dining room was well set out very good food choices for the evening meal. Also a nice indoor swimming pool. The hotel is high up so not good for walking to the village but taxi's can be booked not to expensive. Would recommend this hotel for its charm and happy friendly staff.
Just got back from Austria after a 9 day trip with National Coach Holidays to Hotel Kirchboden in Wagrain and what a fantastic time both me and my mate had from day 1.
Yes, the journey is long which is to be expected when travelling by coach but made much more fun by the lovely people that were travelling with us, and of course our fantastic coach driver, Lee (bing bong, that was our captain for the duration)! Despite only having one driver, we made good time and although the journey was tiring it was enjoyable.
The overnight stays on route were in nice hotels with comfortable beds and lovely breakfasts to suit all.
The Hotel Kirchboden is situated on a steep hill overlooking the little village of Wagrain which has a few bars and restaurants, little shops and a Spar. The hotel is lovely, with friendly staff who will help in any way they can, lovely clean rooms, most with balconies overlooking the mountains and there's also a lovely swimming pool to chill out in. The food is really nice overall and breakfasts offer plenty choice of cereal, fruit, sausage and scrambled egg as well as hams and cheeses and fresh bread rolls. Evening meals were just as nice with a salad bar in addition to the 3 course meals that were good overall. You definitely cant fault all inclusive at this hotel, drinks were flowing till 11pm too so well worth it.
The cable cars are reasonably priced as you cant put a price on the views you get when you're up there.....just stunning! The one we went on had 2 bars to get beers and refreshments and not expensive either.
The trips out were also good especially Salzburg. We had the guided tour which was well worth going on if you've never been before, very interesting with little stories about the Sound of Music thrown in.
Loved the whole experience of this holiday and wouldn't hesitate to go again. We were lucky with having a brill and funny driver, Lee, and our holiday chums that also made our time away a real good laugh. The only thing lacking was entertainment in the hotel at night but we had our very own in house comedienne, the lovely Margaret, and Bill (Willamina), and the rest of the fab crowd, Sue, Stan, Keith, Rhiannon and Chris and ....too many other lovely people to mention. Never stopped laughing all week and cant wait to go again.
