My partner and I stayed at Discovery Island Resort and we loved it. This little hidden gem is located approx 5 minutes from the main Coron Town by boat. But don’t let that deter you. The resort runs a shuttle boat service all day between 7am and 11pm and you can jump on and off when you need to. Coron Town itself is very busy and discovery island resort provides a peaceful refuge at the end of a busy day exploring. The swimming pool is gorgeous and was very warm. The rooms are older and a bit dated but they are large and clean and they had some really practical storage and hanging spaces. They bake their own bread at the resort and I loved the ‘real’ butter that came with the bread, pancakes and sandwiches! The owner of the resort is really friendly and knowledgeable. All the staff were delightful. They arranged a private island hopping tour that didn’t cost much more than a group tour and we were picked up and dropped off directly to and from the island (no crowds). The staff arranged a picnic lunch which was in an esky and on board ready for our day on the water. We had a lovely private guide who swam with us and chatted with us during the day tour. We had multiple meals in the restaurant during out stay and every meal was nice and well priced. We also dived with Christna from MDI divers (again, directly from the resort with picnic packed). We really enjoyed our diving with Christina as well and we will review MDI in a separate review.
My partner and I thoroughly recommend Discovery Island Resort and we would love to stay there again one day.

Room Tip: Don’t let the short boat ride to the island deter you, it’s lovely.

We stayed here for a couple of nights and we found the staff to be excellent. Very kind, they always called us by name and enjoyed helping us with any requests we had, including a surprise birthday breakfast request with fresh cut flowers and delicious crepes.
Unfortunately the shuttle service is not efficient and we had to wait several times for long periods of time to get to and from town. They also didn't mention that in order to catch the ferry we had to go the restaurant "la sirenetta" and text when we wanted a ride. The first night going to the hotel we weren't aware of this, we tried to contact the hotel the evening before (via email) to arrange the shuttle but with no response.
The hotel had a nice relaxing atmosphere but unfortunately the lack of air conditioning and the uncomfortably high pillows it made for a difficult sleep.
Overall, its nice to get out of Coron town but the hotel is a little overpriced for the value (they charge for everything and they must cover the cost of transporting things to the island) and be prepared to wait for the transport.

If you're a first timer to coron, you'd do much better to find a resort located in Coron town, seeing that you'll be renting a boat to visit Coron island no matter where you are (that's where the main attractions are anyway). It's WAY CHEAPER and MORE CONVENIENT!
When we arrived at this resort, we were told that a full day boat rental would be 2000pesos, and that the entrance fee to each attraction would be 200pesos. This is 500p and 100 p respectively more than the STANDARD rates we found in town. Moreover, there are no FREE Shuttle boats to the main island. You'll have to fork out extra to go to town, a ridiculous notion considering the room rates here are easily double that of what you can find elsewhere, so the least they could have done was to throw this in for free. If you think you won't be heading to the town, think again. Meals, while included in the package, aren't exactly tasty, so you'll definitely want to head to the main town for meals.
But our main pet peeve was the unprofessional behaviour of the owner. Besides hovering around us all the time, what's worse was, when we decided to check out of the resort after staying for a night, the owner pretended to be sympathetic but later started making snide remarks about other resorts and how they were lowly ranked on this website. To disparage a competitor in this manner is extremely unprofessional and I believe this owner, who is English, has much to learn about Asian diplomatic ways, ethics and politeness.
The only positive remarks that can be made is that the room is clean, and that there is also a nice floating platform where one can sunbathe. Other than the unfortunate staff mentioned above, I found the local staff to be pleasant, friendly and respectful of one's space too.

Hidden charges. Unlike all the other hotels i booked the price advertised on booking.com was not the final price. They added a big tip on for themselves and the Tax afterwards making the bill 25% more than was advertised. This is misleading.
No hot running water or even warm water just freezing cold water from the shower. When I queried this they told me the rooms don't have hot water and I should boil a kettle! No bathtub so this is pointless alternative.
No beach-Profile says it has a beach and this is the sole reason I booked. Misleading lies. Nearest beach they charge $50 to get to.
High price and no breakfast included
No wifi in rooms and a terrible sporadic wifi in restaurant
Trash on the grounds
No tv in room
The hotel is totally isolated so the only way to go anywhere is via their boat service to the main town. Of course this is charged.
Airport shuttle is charged and overpriced.
Thus hotel is misleading and money grabbing.
We stayed in ten hotels during our trip travelling round the Phillipeans and this most the most expensive with the least facilities.

We need to look at different aspects. This review is solely about the resort/ hotel / restaurant. For the dive operator--which is unprofessional and dangerous in our opinion-- please seek our review in "things to do in Coron" by searching Discovery Divers Coron. THe note given here excludes the dive operation.
1- The hotel : we stayed in the individual cottage = older, nice rooms: minimal luxury, but pleasant and great sleep with the quiet of the island. Some mattresses, as pointed out, old and uncomfortable springs. Try your mattress before agreeing to the room. No hot water, but you don't need it really. Fan is sufficient. No AC.
Balcony had a hammock which was appreciated. Yes, there are some geckos, even in our room, but that means less mosquitoes!! We would not have wanted to stay in town, which is noisy and crowded.
2- The restaurant has actually lots of good philipino food. All our meals there were more than satisfying with good portions. It is true as pointed out in many reviews that everything has a price, the restaurant prices are higher than in town, but not that much. And if you factor in the price of the boat to go/ come back to town for dinner in your "town meal" price, it's about the same... I'd rather stay closer to my room!
3- The dogs… they are super nice and well behaved. 2 even slept on our chairs on our balcony. Very cute sight.
4- Personnel: Little Mama, owner, greeted us nicely. Riza, the main person in charge of the guest is super nice, helpful and understanding. She responded very well to our needs and requests.
5- Boat shuttle to/ from the island: lots of people complain about having to pay (and to wait) for the boat if they want to go to Coron town. I understand them--though we did not use this apart from arriving and leaving the resort. I would suggest including this service in the price of the room. Maybe making a schedule with hourly transfer possibilities?
6- Internet: again, available only in restaurant area. There is a wifi reaching the rooms, but it is for the office... (I sneaked to get a password...). It would be so simple to put a for-the-guests router to have wifi reach the rooms...
