The owner is great. Really helpful as far as helping you explore you the nearby towns and figure out how to get to your next destination. He also has a great collection of TV shows and movies that you can download for your trip if you get your bus tickets from him.

Fab place to stay in a town with not too many options. The guy on the front desk (can’t remember his name - sorry!) was brilliant and gave us so much advice for exploring the area and for any onward travel plans. We arrived so early off the sleeper bus from Vientiane and after only half an hour wait we could already check in which was unexpected and wonderful! Food was great - my first Vegemite in 2 months!! Love the fact that you sleep at floor level, appreciate that not everyone is a fan but I liked it. Room had a/c and fans and plenty of charging points. There were also a few lockers for people to use for valuable but not enough for one each, this didn’t make a difference to me and I had no security concerns whilst there. A great stay and if I’m ever in Pakse again I will definitely return to the Downtown Pakse!

The hostel owner is an absolute legend. Proper English native speaking guy as well, which makes it easier when it comes down to advise.

I arrived at 7 am in the morning after taking the night bus from Vientiane, the room wasn't ready yet so he offered me a room on the 3rd floor to relax/sleep for a bit until the room was ready. During the wait I even got his motorbike to drive up the mountain for a beautiful viewpoint at the golden Buddha. In the meanwhile he sorted my US dollars out for my Cambodian Visa.

Adam (owner) will help you out with everything. From buses to info to movies to cigarettes and pretty good food too.

It's a great location, a really cool room with A/C, toilet & showers are standard and the personal help and advice is already worth it by itself!

Thanks for everything Adam! You're a legend!!

I just arrived after 12hrs night bus from Vientiane, i haven't booked anything so i decided to walk around to find a place . They say 4 room available on Booking.com so i decided to walk in and ask . The owner told me that there is 4 people just walked before me so the hostel was full . Fair enough, i just show him that they said it's still available on Booking.com. And i get the rudest answer i had after 5 months traveling in Asia , "This is my hostel, so i know if there is some room or not, you can show me what you want but if i told you it's full , it's means it's full " . To be honest i don't usually wright review but don't work in hospitality business if you're not able to spoke nicely to someone who just want some information and ask nicely .

Response from Adam C, Owner at DownTown Pakse

Why did you miss out all the real reasons that I got upset with you? Yes, when you first came in I explained professionally that the beds were now full as we just had some walk ins, and I explained that as the reception area was packed with people eating/ordering/leaving/arriving that I hadn't updated booking.com. Yes you said 'ok fair enough'. You then left, stood outside in the street for a minute starring at your phone. You then came back in as I was taking orders, interrupted me, and stuck your phone in my face saying 'but theres still 4 beds though'. You were being rude bro. If you had asked me for help, advice, directions you would have got it asap. Instead you called me a liar by waving a website in my face. FYI what I said to you was nothing compared to what all my other guests said about you when you left. All the best, Adam
