On our return journey from the Dordogne, we stayed overnight in La Mouche-Abeille in Meung-sur-Loire. On the D2152, a tree-lined avenue leading to La Mouche-Abeille was easy to spot. As we drove up to the house, we were first welcomed by a sweet German Shepherd and a friendly Jack Russell. M. et Mme. Perrody run a beautiful chambre d'hôtes. An old fashioned house with old fashioned furniture, old fashioned bathrooms, old fashioned charm... which is exactly what we like. La Mouche-Abeille is château pied dans l'eau, a waterfront property. We stayed in the pink room -with two very comfortable single beds- that looks out on the Loire (all guests room look out on it I think). The morning sun set the room ablaze, simply magical. The size of the bedroom is big and the en suite bathroom is also large with both loo and shower in perfect order. Superfluous to mention that everything was spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast was opulent. Wifi worked, so I could see to some work issues in peace and quiet. We spoke French with Jean-Jacques and Milène but they both understand and speak English. We highly recommended La Mouche-Abeille to members of our family who drove North a few days after us.
Recently stayed for 3 nights, we were greeted by our hosts and their very friendly dogs. Drinks were produced on the Terrace which overlooks the Loire. We stayed in the pink room, a very large bedroom with ample sitting space, a large bathroom with typical French plumbing. From our room we had stunning views of the river. A breakfast with homemade items grown in their garden is taken around a large table shared by all the guests. There are very large gardens surrounding the property which you are encouraged to walk around. There is a path along the river starting at the house which goes to the local town of Meung sur Loire.
Wonderful room overlooking La Loire. Jean-Jacques and Mylene are charming attentive hosts, good enough to share their wonderful home and exceptional garden or park. Just about the nicest place we have ever stayed. And good value too. We would love to come back with all the family.
We visited this wonderful hotel de charme on a short tour of about 8 hotels de charme in S-W France and this was one of the nicest if not the most charming one of all on this trip. Wonderful grand old mansion right directly at the Loire with beautiful view also from the bedroom, very quiet, magical garden, wonderful breakfast outside in the garden. Reasonable price, kind service. Small village nearby with lovely small centre and restaurants, next to an impressive and beautiful castle open to public. A treasdure, highly recommended.
