We have just come back from the Southen Palms Resort. I will not post photo's because the ones already on here are accurate and suffice. I will be brutally honest about the good and the bad ok. We travelled with a wheelchair so this may be of some assistance to wheelchair users in the future. I will start with the bad which isn't much so don't panic. Our room was on the ground floor due to our needs and that was good but I have to say I was abit miffed to realise that I had paid for an upgrade for an ocean view room and virtually all the rooms have ocean view anyhow, so could have saved ourselves some money there, as the garden view rooms had a better view of the ocean than we did. The room was not as clean as I would have liked, we found a pink hair roller under the bed complete with hair in and we found hair in our bath, not ours we'd just arrived. The room was shabby and I agree with the three star rating, also our room was right at the back and we could hear the traffic constantly, it seemed to us that we'd been put in the shabby end of the hotel because further along the hotel looked like it had been refurbished and had no shabby paintwork whereas the wooden balcony railings our end were in dire need of some TLC. Now don't get me wrong I'm not a complainer just telling it like it is ok. There were many good things about this hotel too, more good than bad. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly the linens on the bed are changed every third day due to the water shortage, which is perfectly fine, don't know about you but I don't change my linens on my bed every third day let alone every day so this didn't bother us in the least and seemed very sensible to me. You can drink the water we didn't get any upset stomachs. We had an under the counter fridge in an area that had a kitchen sink and somewhere to store food and plates, no hob, but a kettle and cups provided, bring your own coffee and tea., there is an ice bucket for you to collect ice from the bar. There is a plasma screen tv in the room with about 8/9 channels which is adequate who goes to Barbados to watch tv anyway? The wheelchair was able to access all areas of the hotel the only problem if you are not able to get out of the wheelchair is the front lobby area from the road, it is all steps so a ramp there would make it just perfect for all wheelchair users. We were able to access our particular room easily because we were at the back of the hotel, this is why we didn't complain about the traffic noise, it was no biggy in the grand scheme of things. Hey we were in Barbados! I strongly recommend the managers free rum punch party on a Monday, the rum is strong but please be aware that there will be some stalls for you to purchase trinkets too if you so desire. There is a laundry room that is clean housing a washing machine and tumble dryer, for those you will need to provide your own soap liquid/powder and will need to purchase tokens from the reception desk and a key for the room, so you can put your clothes in lock up the room and go swim until it's done. The tokens are 1 token each for the machines costing 10 BDS each. There is an air conditioned internet room with two computers for your free use available by the lobby. The hotel is situated on a gorgeous beach, nothing to gripe about there it is wonderful the photo's here don't lie. Pink beach towels are provided you won't need to bring your own. The food is good but you will pay for it, we had the Sunday pie buffet lunch and this is what I can remember on offer: Macaronie pie (macaronie cheese) chicken pot pie, steak and kidney pie, shepherds pie, these are the ones I can remember and I had some of each, the food was very very good I can assure you. We also had room service and have no complaints there either, the food was always good. But.. across the road from the hotel is a little parade of shops called The Chattel House Village, consisting of about 8 shops one of which is a cafe called Happy Days, say Hello to Mick the proprietor, I strongly recommend you breakfast here, it is far cheaper than eating at the hotel and the food is fabulous. He opens until 2.30pm so you can have lunch there too. I had the calves liver, bacon and onion special and it was delicious but I have to say his piece de resistance has to be his steak, it was literally melt in the mouth tender deliciousness, seriously you will not get steak anywhere like it in St Lawrence Gap and we had steak at other places there.... Micks was THE BEST. Happy Days... where good honest delicious food is cheaper, why pay more? I have been honest in this review and hope it helps any questions please feel free to pm me and I will try my best to help.

My partner and i stayed here for a week in February 2017 after a one week cruise. We had booked a sea view room but on our arrival we were upgraded to a sea view suite. It was excellent ! It had a livingroom with balcony and a full kitchen on the ground level and the bedroom with picture window looking onto the beach, bathroom and dressing room on the upstairs with access to our own private roof terrace. We were half board at the hotel ! The breakfasts and the a la carte evening meals were great but we thought that the buffet meals could have been a bit better. Sometimes the food was a bit cold ! I don't eat meat and the staff were helpful about pointing out options for me. The setting is heavenly ! We thought that the setting was fab with only a short walk to reach the night life of the gap ! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend !

We landed on our feet here. We were put into Room 217 and had the best view of the main pool, the bar and the beach. The room had a balcony (with fridge), and the bedroom itself was large with a comfortable king size bed. Lots of pillows of different softness too - always good. The bathroom was OK - shower was a bit small - but it had everything that we needed/ A mention to the cleaners, who did a magnificent job each day, making the bed, changing the towels and leaving a lovely clean smell in the room. The air conditioner was efficient and quiet. After a long day on the beach it was a joy to come back to.
We took advantage of the happy hour every day. Top tip - the Happy hour at the hotel next door is from 5-6, at Southern Palms from 6-7 and over the road at My Friends Place it runs from 7-8. Try doing that every day!
We booked a room-only stay but enjoyed lunches at the bar and indulged in the buffet breakfast a couple of mornings. We ate out a lot and have not had a single bad experience on the Gap - every restaurant serves great food and has great service. Special mention to Cafe Sol and Tabu, but Harlequin, Cocktail Kitchen, Primo, Sharkeys and Castaways are all great. And please please please go to Daddies and Happy Days - cheaper but still awesome.
The hotel has a great position on Dover Beach, which is 0.5km long - I know this because at 8am each day we would walk it end to end multiple times and the old Apple Watch recorded it. Beautiful, clean, white sand. The sea was a little rough the first few days but the last 4 days, it was fantastic, and so warm! We had no problems getting sun beds on the beach - never tried around the pool. Reason? Turtle TV! So many turtles swimming in the sea directly opposite the hotel - just set up and watch. I'm convinced they like surfing. The last days there we went swimming a lot and the turtles would come so close, investigating those weird bipeds in the water.
The staff at the hotel are all brilliant - no exceptions. They really do make you feel at home and I loved chatting with them. It was like being looked after by your mum or grandma! They all laughed a lot with each other and the guests - a great sign of a great hotel. We will definitely be returning, and I will heartily recommend it to anyone who asks. We were very sad to be leaving.

Just back from 2 weeks at Southern Palms, 2 adults and 2 kids (13,11). Arrived and stayed in a sea view room with virgin. What a view!!! We stayed on the 3rd floor and the view took our breath away. Lovely room with 2 very cosy beds. Air conditioning. Beach towels and complimentary bottle of rum and cokes, perfect!!! All staff are so friendly, they all speak and are so friendly. The hotel is on the most beautiful beach. The sand is so white and the sea the most beautiful colours. We sat and watched turtles from our balcony it was amazing. My daughters loved seeing them in the sea whilst they were swimming. The waves can be abit rough. Plenty of beds and you can put them anywhere on the beach or under the palm trees. The pools are lovely and cleaned everyday. Afternoon tea every day at 4 and cocktail party on a Monday night, so lovely. Live music every Sunday and on occasions in the week but we always went out, just heard it. Restaurant suggestions: Breakfast: happy days Lunch: memosa, pizza ( we watched turtles eating our lunch and drinking amazing cocktails Cafe sol, mexican Sea ya: local rotis Dinner: cocktail kitchen (amazing), cafe sol My friends place, opposite the hotel. Cafe Sol. My suggestion is get a car and investigate the island. Very safe and don’t forget to beep your horn. Best beaches other than Dover beach is bats rock, Carlisle bay, Payne’s bay. The nature reserve at the north of the island is great, get there for 2pm as they feed the wild monkeys who suddenly appear with the tortoises, kids loved it. We are definitely going back and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Plenty of bars, restaurants and shops.
