the front desk will be able to help you book any excursions and all restaurant reservations most sea view rooms have a fridge in them and the swimming pools are open for...
I’m going to start with the bad and work through to the many good points about this hotel.
The first comment relates to the… it can’t be called a welcome, just a registration process. The receptionist gave the impression that she was irritated that we wanted to check in. No hint of a smile, just a peremptory demand for the voucher provided by Virgin Holidays. The food in the restaurant is not particularly good but that doesn’t really matter because there are so many good restaurants nearby but the female staff all seemed to resent our presence. The men, by contrast, were cheerful and friendly. Room cleaning was done on what my mother would have called ‘a lick and a promise’: beds were made, towels were changed but there wasn’t much evidence of anything else. Finally, there’s a cricket ground about 100 yards from the hotel and on the middle Friday night (we were there 2 weeks), they had a game with a PA system wound up to an astonishing level. It kept going until 02:00 (yes – 2 am). I heard the commentator at that point thanking the spectators. Inside our room. With the doors shut.
Now to the good stuff. It’s a great location. Dover beach must be one of the best beaches on the island with white sand, the beautiful blue of the Caribbean and palm trees. You sit at breakfast looking out at that view and, because we had an ocean view room, we had a decent-sized balcony where we could sit out and enjoy the sight and watch for turtles just offshore. Obviously, you step out of the hotel straight onto the beach. One thing to be aware of is that sometimes the currents directly in front of the hotel mean that you need to go to the east end of the beach to swim but that’s no great hardship.
So far as eating is concerned, there’s a huge choice in the neighbourhood. Come out of the hotel and turn right and you’ll find places such as Scotty’s serving traditional Bajan food. It’s in Styrofoam containers with plastic knives and forks but it’s very good and cheap. Turn left and you go upmarket with the best of the lot in our experience being Harlequin. There’s a terrific range between those two extremes and prices range from around 15 Bajan dollars (about £5) for a meal for one and a beer at Scotty’s to maybe ten times that for a meal for two with a cocktail each at Harlequin.
In the hotel, the beds were very comfortable (two queen-size beds in the room we had) with air con although we often preferred to leave the door to the room and the doors to the balcony open so there was a breeze through the room. Yes, there’s a TV but it shows mostly American stations which seems to involve watching more ads than programme.
All in all, a good choice.

Four of us stayed at The Southern Palms in January 2011 for a week before going on a weeks cruise and we all found the hotel to be great. The rooms are not palacial but are clean and ours had a fantastic view of the pool/beach with a ridiculously big balcony complete with a fridge which was nice. The staff were great and happy to chat about the island and all the best places to go. The hotel was not all inclusive but did have a nice restaurant with the food very good and reasonably priced. The best thing about the hotel was the location though. When i say right on the beach (Dover Beach) i mean one step from the bar and your on the beach and it is a picture perfect carribean beach with white sands, water sports etc etc and all scuba diving equipment is free to hire from the water sports shack. It is also only about a 5 minute walk from all the bars, clubs & restaurants at St Lawrence gap and seemed to be in a nice safe area of the Island.
Good points Room is great Location is fantastic Staff are very friendly Restaurant is good Very sensible price to stay
Bad Points Gym is woeful in fact its so bad its funny! The stairwells to the rooms and other areas need some TLC for sure!
Basically The Southern Palms is a lovely place to stay located on a superb beach and at the end of St Lawrence gap strip so easy to get to the nightlife should you want it.
Would i stay there again........... WITHOUT DOUBT !!

Just returned from southern palms and wow what a fantastic hotel. I requested a room with a great view for a friend who hasn't been abroad for many years and celebrating a big birthday they provide us with a beach front room just steps from the beach couldn't have been any better, thank you so much for that. Staff all friendly from cleaners to security and all the others in between. Water is provided all day by the pool ,definitely needed . The beds and pillows are so comfortable and air con is fantastic. Had a welcome gift on arrival in our room which was a lovely touch along with tea coffee and juice in fridge wasn't expecting that but really appreciated it. Restaurant has a good selection of food from breakfast to evening meals and I thought it was very reasonably priced.plenty of sun loungers around and about and on the beach. If you have a lounger on the beach they give you a flag to wave if you want anything they bring it to you, brilliant. really Can't fault this hotel I will definitely be back. It's sat on dover beach which is my favourite.

Our 4th visit to Southern palms , this hotel in my personal opinion is one of the best locations on the island I love I love the views built on the beach. It could be perfect . I say could because sadly I really think it needs some love and care , in our 4 stays we dint get room wise what we wanted till we moved to the crescent , this time we had room 211 in the crescent but my mistake as I requested garden view not ocean . But sadly this room needs some love and care, we had kettle on top fridge safe by side. But all sockets were on floor at age 63 I don’t want to be on hands and knees to make a cuppa for a small amount of money I’m sure they could reduce size of fridge put work top across safe and fridge and add some waist level sockets. Puts some doors on the wardrobe add few local paintings hey presto much better room , though it’s positioned by stairs blinds as well as curtains would be better so you had privacy but light. Reading other reviews I don’t think it would do the hotel any harm to supply free tea bags. On our first day the restaurant next door kindly gave us a few for the next day. Little things like this help. Entertainment good I enjoy but after 4 stays really think adding something extra or different would not hurt. But like all reviews on here yes the staff are lovely they ar3 all fantastic. Long term staff so that speaks well for the hotel. Will I rtn be honest I coul£ not stay away as I get holder this hotel was my choice to be like a second home to escape the winter months. But for now I’m going to have a break for a few years and hope on my return some changes take place. But if you have not been I would say go and enjoy.
