This visit went well from the git-go. The young women at check-in was very gregarious. She brought smiles to our face and even held the door for us to get the luggage cart through the entry. The hotel is kept in fine shape. No fair wear and tear scars on the walls and all is spic and span. I like the flooring in the room. It is not carpeting but new state of the art wood flooring. Much of the carpeting I have experience in motels show stains and wear patterns. The wood flooring is cleaner and easier to care for.
I like this property. A couple of negatives I can think of is looks like there may have been a hot tub in the pool area. There is a raised platform about the size of a hot tub with a picnic table set upon it next to the pool. A picnic table in the pool area? That seems out of place and may be covering up an inoperative hot tub. The other negative is a lack of an elevator.
I would definitely stay here again.
Pros: clean, comfortable beds, frig, microwave, great breakfast, pool, quiet location Cons: weird smell in 2nd floor hallway, very spotty Wi-fi. The front desk clerks appeared to be unfriendly and aloof, but when I asked for advice on trails the clerk was very informative and polite. The breakfast had many choices, including waffles, hard-boiled eggs and yogurt.
I would rate this motel as average. The room and areas of the building were clean and well kept. The lawn needed mowing and grounds needed trimming. Breakfast was on the weak side. Waffles, biscuits and gravy with a sausage patty was the entree. No scrambled eggs. Pool seemed nice.
The room was noisy, we could hear people in adjacent rooms talking and moving about. Very annoying at 1AM.
FYI, we signed up for 15 rooms to be used by our hockey team this year during a tournament. The rate was very economical, there was a small pool and a continental breakfast - so I thought - how could we go wrong?
But, once we checked in, the person behind the desk handed us a list of about 10-12 "rules" that had never been mentioned before in the contract. Things like, no sports equipment in the hotel was pretty standard, no running in the halls, etc... But the thing that really dismayed us was....
1. All children were to be in their rooms (curfew) by 8pm.
2. No gathering of any kind in the hallways, or lobby
3. And if you reserved the breakfast area - you could meet in there until 10pm, but no later.
So, essentially you were restricted to pretty much no movement of any kind after 10pm, without several irate phone calls from the front desk.
This is probably because this hotel has very thin walls, hollow floors, etc. (Just walking down the 2nd floor hallway (adult normal speed) made an obvious thumping noise in the rooms / hallway on the 1st floor. (And people snoring in the room next door were VERY obvious, as well as if someone was having a phone conversation in an adjacent room's bathroom - the person next door could hear everything they were saying.)
So, because our hockey games (2 nights in a row) didn't complete until well after curfew, we had to keep looking for other places to go that would allow us to gather as a team. (The bowling alley next door, various restaurants, etc.)
Therefore, if you are just looking for a very economical place to stay, but have somewhere else that you can be for most of the weekend - this might be a good option. But, if you are bringing a lot of people, and only intend to leave a couple hours at a time, this could end up being a very restrictive place for you to be.
On the good side, the staff were very helpful and the place was clean. But yes - the air freshener on the 2nd floor was a little over powering. (The ice machine on the 2nd floor was broken, and there is no elevator - which made things tough on travelers with coolers/large suitcases.) And like many hotels we've stayed at, heat vs cold was a challenge. In February, we slept all night with our window open and less than freezing temps outside. And as a final note, the mattresses/pillows are VERY hard, compared to some that I've been in, so bringing your own pillow might be a good idea.
We stayed at this place for a hockey tournament. EVERYTHING about the air freshners in the hallways being over powering is true!! As soon as we walked in the door there was an over powering smell of one of those plug in air freshener's. The lady at the front desk was very nice. She told us we were on the second floor, way down the hall, there is no elevator, so pack lightly if you go here. We left for our game and came back around 930. At promptly 1001. The front desk lady kicked everyone out of the pool. We gathered out in the hallway for a team meeting, when the front desk lady came up and said there has been noise complaints and quiet time is 8pm. Are you kidding me!? We asked if we could sit in the lobby, she said no. 8pm is quiet time. 8pm on a Friday night!?! The next day the kids being kids were running in the hallway and the front desk person screamed at them "your all about 5 minutes away from being kicked out." They threatned us Friday night as well, with no refunds. They are very uptight with there 8pm quiet time rule. Not accomadating at all! Who puts 15 families on the second floor and expects it to be quiet all the time? The rooms are ok, pillows suck. I forgot to bring my own like I normally do. Beds are high up so I had to run and jump to get on the bed. Lol. We are seasoned hotel stayers. We have never had any issues at all with any other hotel that our team stayed at. They are not accommodating at all. Inforced 8pm quiet time. I will never stay here Again. I gave it a 2 because the lady when we checked in was nice.
