This site is perfect if you want somewhere as a base to explore the area. It has a bar and swimming pool, but its all about the views and the location. the only entertainment is bingo or karaoke, but we went and had a pint in the bar and made the most of the views. You get what you pay for with regards to the accommodation, but our caravan (107) was immaculate and very clean, and we were able to check in two hours early as it was ready! The site is VERY steep in places. The village and harbour is a two minute walk away, and has some nice places to eat and drink. I would definitely recommend staying here

This could’ve easily been a 5 star review if it wasn’t for a few ‘snags’, but they may of been attributed to an unlucky caravan allocation so worth bearing in mind.

Positives:-
Whole site is well maintained and all the communal areas are generally clean and tidy.
It’s in a lovey location, 5mins walk down to the main Combe Martin beach.
Probably the most quiet site we’ve ever stayed on - and we’ve been to a lot.
The majority of staff we engaged with were friendly and helpful.
On site food was very nice, personally I’d say it was slightly on the expensive side for what it was - and as they can only do one order at a time the wait can be up to an hour (ladies serving and cooking were very lovely)
View from the bar overlooking the sea magnificent.
Cans of Thatchers chilling in the fridge upon arrival - that gets a star just for that!

‘Snags’
Having upgraded to highest standard of caravan we were very disappointed with the quality of mattresses, which were not in keeping with the rest of the caravan which was modern and high quality! 2 of the family ended the holiday with bad backs and aches all other - 1 resorting to sleeping on the sofa.
Swimming pool only open between 10-5 (closed for an hour at lunch) and also closed on Sunday’s and Thursdays! You have to book slots, and as we learned to our peril, if you try to book 5mins after 7pm (booking open at 7pm) it’s already fully booked! Took us 3 days to get our first swim and over there the course of the week we only managed to swim 3 times. What added injury to insult was a blasé attendant who, on our booked session, let others enter who hadn’t booked - very unfair system.
Heavily watered down slush drinks, the strawberry flavour was all but transparent where minimal flavouring had been added.
The hum...every night there was a continuous and annoying hum coming from somewhere in the park, never found the origin.
There was no iron, iron board or clothes drying rack in the caravan which we’ve always had elsewhere - and was even more disappointing as upgraded to highest spec.
No WiFi or signal - on one hand it was quite refreshing not to be glued to our phones, but became frustrating when we needed to find local attractions and book things. There is WiFi in the main bar...but we were probably the furthest caravan away from it!

Other bits...
It’s a very hilly site, which didn’t put us off (good workout) but worth bearing in mind if you have mobility restrictions.

Overall we did enjoy our stay at this park, and probably would visit again in the future.

We were greeted by a pleasant and friendly young lady at reception on our arrival, and given good clear instructions to where our caravan was located when given the keys, I had been a little apprehensive about this trip due to the whole COVID 19 situation, but after checking in we were approached by the manager who gave us a full run down of safety precautions in place to keep everyone safe, which was reassuring, the bar area and seating area in the club house was laid out to promote socially distancing and appeared to be very clean, it was also good to see hand sanitisers and a check and trace system in place.
On arriving at our caravan it appeared to have been cleaned to a high standard and was spotless, with everything inside we needed in the way of essential items.
The park on a whole is well kemp and the grounds well maintains, not to forget the stunning views, and although the current times have restricted a lot of the social activities available at the park we still got time in the outdoor pool as a family with the clever rota that has been designed to keep the guests happy with allotted pool times.
On a whole this was a great holiday, it’s not the first time we have visited Combe Martin and it won’t be the last.

Hello Joanna Thank you for taking the time to write such a fantastic review. We take great pride in the standard of all grades of accommodation and our customer care - Our staff are doing an amazing job considering the totally new circumstances in which they are being asked to work. It’s brilliant that this isn’t going unnoticed and your comments will be passed on to the housekeeping team. The rules for the pool and the club are not as we would wish, but we are obliged to follow the government guidelines to protect both customers and our staff. It's great to hear that it is all working well. I am pleased to hear that you will be coming back to see us again, let’s hope that it’s quite soon - our returning customers are so important to us. We have just returned from a weeks stay here and once again, we loved it. Yes it is hilly but that is great for the fitness but the view for us is just fantastic. We usually stay in a caravan here but when we booked, we could only book one of the apartments in the main house. I will admit that i was a little disappointed with that but once we got into the apartment, it was fantastic. It was so spacious, clean and the view from the windows was just magical (well for us it was). The only negative was the water pressure for the shower but where theres a will theres a way so to speak....... From now on, when we stay here, we will always book room 306.
Our paths crossed a few members of staff during our time (Reception/Bar staff, Chefs Corner, Maintenance, Pool Attendants and a midland sounding guy who works in the office by his clothing) and everyone was so friendly and helpful. Some people will say, 'So what?' but there are places that you dont receive any customer service but we did here, so thank you guys.
See you all very soon.

Hello Gary What a lovely review! Thank you, we really appreciate it. Your 5 star praise will mean so much to the manager, Glyn (The midland sounding gentleman) and his team at the park. It is obviously very difficult for our staff working in entirely new circumstances, but in true John Fowler Holiday tradition everyone is stepping up to the mark. We pride ourselves on our customer care and are delighted to hear that you shared that experience. Loyal customers such as yourselves are so important to us and regularly make up 50% of our visitors, so we look forward to welcoming you again very soon. Pat Guest Relations

Questions & answers about the pool

Hello "Faraway" We are quite happy for you to use portable barbecues, but please be careful not to scorch the grass and ensure they are fully distinguished before disposal. The Park is set in the grounds of an old manor house and as such has a large number of trees. Having said that most caravan are afforded evening sun. The pool will be open from Whitsun onward. Hi what are the pool times. We are staying in august?
Jan 2020 |
Hello Bec The pool is open from 10am to 1pm and then 2pm to 5pm. The reason for the lunchtime closure is to allow the introduction of chemicals to keep the water pristine. Pat Guest Relations Manager

Will the pool be open in June? Also where are the silver caravans?
May 2018 |
Hello Jen You will be delighted to hear that the pool is open now. The silver caravans are dotted all over the park, they are not all together in a group. I am wondering why you ask the question, because if you have a specific reason, ensure that you tell the booking office when you book. Pat Guest Relations Manager
