We stayed for 1 night on our way back to Sydney. Love the Decor of the hotel. The room with 2 queen bed comfortably fit family of 4. Swimming pool was set to a room temperature. Its a beautiful view from our room. We also spent time playing golf. All staff members were really nice and professional, from the receptionist, bar and restaurant staff member and the gold shop
We loved this place when we stayed about 5 years ago. Everything was new and they were eager to please. Now, the hotel has not been looked after and is unimpressive. There are scratches all over the place and stained carpet which makes everything look bad.
We were placed in the room adjacent to the swimming pool. The whole time we were there we were rubbing out eyes due to the chlorine fumes. It really stank.
The beds are very comfy but at between $4-500 per night I do expect MUCH better than this.
Our only option to eat there was a $75 per person meal. 4 of us meant a $300 meal with drinks on top. Forget it. That's approaching $1000 per night.
I went into the bar where a nice fire was going and a few people sitting around having drinks. After waiting over 15 minutes at the bar I gave up and went elsewhere.
Sorry GH I won't be back again unless you lift your game.
This is the 3rd or 4th time staying in this hotel and I have always considered it one of my most favourite hotels. Last time we were here was 5 years ago. I feel like the owners have changed hands because this amazing hotel has gone down hill :(
The rooms are quite specious.... the beds are sooooo comfortable. House keeping excellent but quite late in cleaning the rooms (around 3-4pm).
The swimming pool is not cleaned often enough.... on the edge of the pool was a dressing (wound dressing) and it was there for more then 24hrs. The dirty towels are left on the floor for hours and hours. It would be better if someone came every hour to just check on things.
This hotel always had an awesome buffet breakfast.... and I understand that with Covid that wasn’t available. But the continental breakfast provided was terrible.... a tiny fruit platter (1 small strawberry cut into quarters, a couple of slices of other fruits) 1 small croissant each, cold toast, tiny tubs of yoghurt ( not suitable for small kids) and very glugy porridge (which was pretty tasteless) for 2 adults and 2 kids! Also the price list says continental breakfast is $27 and the big breakfast is $24...so give people a choice and most will pick the big breakfast! On our last morning when we went to breakfast we were the first ones there and the staff were sitting at the tables almost asleep. The main guy in the dinning area stunk of cigarettes! Gross!
Overall cleanliness of the hotel wasn’t up to scratch!
I can’t believe my favourite hotel is no longer how it used to be!
We decided to treat ourselves for our Anniversary and have a mid week stay in Bowral at the Gibraltar Hotel as we have stayed here before. Our room was lovely - very spacious, clean and comfortable with lovely views over the golf course and pond. Bathroom spacious and neat - lovely fluffy white towels. Had a swim in the indoor pool which we really enjoyed before having dinner in Harveys Bar (restaurant closed as it was mid-week) - didnt worry us. Dinner was delicious, drinks were great, good easy listening back ground music. Our breakfast was included and there was a good choice from fruit, cereal eggs etc....couldnt complain. Overall - had a great stay ....... will probably be back again :)
This sprawling modern, but somewhat monastic, hotel is a modern take on the classic links hotel with the golf course right outside the windows. Our room was enormous - honestly it was almost suite size. If the bed was any bigger, it could have declared independence as its own micro nation. A chaise lounge looked out onto the lake and the shower was so huge, it had a bath within it.
A small pool was good to let off some steam and the bar was large and had open fireplaces both inside and on the balcony to keep you nice and warm. Bar staff were friendly and efficient.
However, it had some issues for a hotel that is pretty expensive, so you could be forgiven for hoping for a bit extra. I couldn't find power points near the bed which and the TV only seemed to have about six free to air channels and didn't seem to work all that well anyway. Bath robes were only available if you asked for them. I've had them in rooms in cheaper hotels.
And the staff seemed a bit aloof. During our stay, we put the do not disturb sign on our door for a few hours in the AM while we got ready for an event. Then, around 1pm, we flipped the sign which asked for the room to now be cleaned. But I guess housekeeping never went by the room again or peered at the sign as it wasn't cleaned. When we enquired at reception, one member of staff said it was too late and all we could now get was fresh towels. It took the manager to make sure we got our room sorted out which was great, but it shouldn't have been missed in the first place. Additionally, getting a late checkout (10am is early to be told to push off) involved asking twice and then we were given just one hour extra. For the price, It shouldn't be this frustrating.
A top dollar comfortable hotel with good facilities but a bit cold both in decor and service from some staff.
