If this was, as it claimed, America’s Best, I fear to think what America’s Worst is like. We were only passing through for one night en route to the south from DC so just needed a bed for the night. The bed was the best part. The rest of the place was terrible for the price charged. The room was scruffy, the towels were small and thin and the breakfast was very basic. The pool was devoid of any liquid substances. It needs pulling down and rebuilding.

We are sorry for your disappointment and appreciate your comments, however the hotel was sold last month and is under new ownership/management. The hotel also changed names to Amerivu Inn I believe.

The experience at this hotel was disgraceful. The facility had experienced damage from a recent hurricane, but this was not advertised whatsoever on this listing when we booked our room. Only 25 of the rooms were actually available.

The hotel was advertised as having a pool and a gym; the pool was closed when we arrived and the gym was being used to store televisions! During our stay, we left for breakfast and when we came back, the hotel was under completely new ownership. The parent company (Red Lion Corp) was completely disrespectful to the new owners as well as all of the guests who had already paid for their reservations. The electricity and gas were cut off for the new owners, and the dumpsters were taken away by Red Lion without their knowledge. The new owners were very kind and honored all of the reservations that were already made, even though they are unable to receive any of the payments from Red Lion.

We also needed to end our vacation two days early to return home and were not able to receive a refund because our money was given to the original owners. The entire experience was nothing but headaches and ruined our vacation.

If you are going to advertise 'dog' rooms, please take out the carpet and put in linoleum as it's easier to clean rather than have a stinky carpet like we had in our room. Plus there was still animal hair in the carpeting that really bothered our dog. Room was very small for 4 people and suitcases. Microwave and refrigerator worked well. Grab and go breakfast, no hot items.

Janelle, thank you for taking a minute to let us know about your recent experience. We apologize for any inconvenience. This was another brand hotel at one time so the room size was already pre-selected. At this time we are not able to be as "pet friendly" as we would like to be: however, we have tried to accommodate our guest with their furry family members despite our situation. We were looking at replacing the carpeting for flooring, but the hurricane hit and that project was put on hold. With the limited number of rooms we have, our turnover is intense every day and we cannot deep clean after a pet was in a room like we like to because we have a reservation coming in immediately after the checkout. I will speak with our head housekeeper and see what we might be able to do to correct your concerns. Regarding breakfast, we do have some hot items. We have 3 kinds of toast/mini bagels along with instant oatmeal and grits. I'm sorry if you may have missed these items, but they are a main staple with the Grab and Go Breakfast. Thank you again for your feedback.

My first attempt to check in, I was denied because the computer system was down. I had to leave and come back hours later, where it was then done manually.

Very basic, no soap or shampoo. Basic room which is outdated and the beds are not comfortable. The property is not well kept, and it shows. The smell of smoke as others have mentioned is very heavy, and I noticed that many construction workers in the area have been residing in the hotel, and almost all smoke. They tried to hit on me several times and it was gross. You get what you pay for here.

I apologize for your disappointment. Due to an area wide outage, which was no fault of ours, we didn't have internet to be able to check-in or out. We ended up having to use other means to be able to check guests in or we would not have been able to let anyone check in. We were setting that up as quickly as we could. We do have soap, shampoo, etc... that is put in each room, every time the room is cleaned so I am not sure why you didn't have any in your room, but we do have them at the front desk as well; did you call to the desk to let us know? Unfortunately, we were extensively damaged by Hurricane Florence and we have minimum rooms to rent at this time. We lost a few buildings due to the storm and our smoking building was one of them. We are waiting to hear from the insurance company so haven't started our renovations yet. As for the contractors, I apologize for their behavior, however, we would have been happy to speak with them if someone contacts the front desk. We do not rent to locals in general, so our contractors are from out of the area working locally. This is not typical of our property's condition, we are in a difficult position at the moment, but assure you, we will be working to have the entire hotel renovated.

If I could award 0 stars, I would. We were well aware that this room would be basic at best and were not expecting a lot. However, upon arrival, the room had an awful smell of cigarette smoke. When moving around the room, there was a smell of urine. I checked the bathroom and the smell was not from there. It dawned on my that the smell was coming from the carpet. It is perfectly clear that a previous resident had urinated on the carpet and had smoked in the room. From the stench alone we had decided to cut our four day stay to one day and booked into another hotel for the rest of the days. During the nights stay, we realised bugs in the bed and cigarettes burns on the bedding. Furthermore, the dead lock on the door was faulty (to lock the door, you had to slam it and pull the door closed while locking). Not only did we feel unsafe, we felt dirty. When mentioning these issues to the receptionist, she did not appear shocked or concerned about our stay. This room was prepaid and we will be pursuing a refund via Expedia. There are plenty of other hotel options at a higher price but I would recommend that over this hotel 100%.

I am sorry that you were not happy with your stay. We would’ve been happy to move you to another room that would’ve been more to your standards. There is a safety feature on the door locks, but I am not sure if that’s what was engaging to cause an issue for you. I will be looking into what happened for our standards to have been dropped. Again, I sincerely apologize and we will work to rectify the situation and concerns. Thank you for letting us know about your experience, but please know that this is unacceptable to us and will be corrected
