Really looking forward to a few days 'away' on the mainland at Khanom and this place sounded like good value. The initial aspect is very good, and while the cottages are somewhat 'tired' that is easily made up for with good atmosphere, facilities etc. Or maybe not. The meals were slow to arrive, and not that well presented. The approach to the bistro was (typically) tiled but using extremely slippery tiles - not good in a situation where the pool is immediately adjacent. The pool, while right next to the beach as well, was heavily chlorinated, the ladder did not have steps, and the pool lights didn't work The access paths were constructed of broken bricks (quite arty) except the razor sharp protruberances were a concern for the kids and also for the tyres on the car. I almost feel like I'm betraying something here, because it's so close to being very good - but not yet. You get what you pay for...
This place was lovey.
Nice rustic log cabin type private bungalows.
Like having your own place.
Breakfast was ok and included, we had a room for 950 baht per night which was very reasonable.
Pool was lovely and right on the beach too.
If you walk along the beach to the right you can eat for a bit cheaper.
Staff friendly and girl on reception very helpful with travel arrangements.
Free water daily, overall very good. Would come back.
Only bad thing is that cleaners were a bit loud in the morning having a giggle which woke us both mornings. But at least they are happy.
They upgraded us to a double bed from single bed booking. The WiFi worked excellent in the restaurant however did not work inside our room. The bed was comfortable and clean. The bathroom had plenty of space and included a rain shower. The sink mirror was positioned low which makes it difficult for tall people to shave. There was a large mirror for putting on makeup or getting ready set up next to the bed. Talkoo has a nice breakfast buffet set up which includes toast, ready made eggs, fried rice, rice soup, watermelon, punch, and coffee from the pot. The breakfast room is new and has an excellent view of the ocean. They also have a small pool.
The most recent negative reviews are a little harsh. The word 'resort' is used pretty liberally in Thai beach towns so that has probably raised people's expectations, but you get what you pay for. In our case it was great value for money!
Five friends and I decided to come to Khanom for a few laid back days, based on the recommendation of a couple we met on Koh Tao. We rented three bungalows at Talkoo Resort and all three were extremely clean. There were no ants, no dirty sheets or curtains, the bathrooms were clean and the air con was good. It's right next to a huge, long beach with clean water. The beach itself isn't super clean but nothing that'll ruin your day.
It's a little far from the town so you have to rent scooters or take a taxi, but the front desk was helpful in arranging all of this. We booked the full-day all-inclusive dolphin and cave tour through the front desk - I can categorically say the trip was excellent. We were a little wary given the high price (compared to trips on the islands, anyway), but needn't have worried. Fonn, our guide, was fantastic and spoke very good English. We saw plenty of dolphins close up from a long-tail boat, trekked into a stunning cave, ate at a delicious local chicken rice vendor, and hit up a natural fish spa and a waterfall.
On negatives- I agree with some of the other reviewers that the staff service could be better, particularly in the restaurant. Orders were mixed up, even with a basic Thai speaker in the group, and were brought out individually and slowly, or forgotten altogether. I'd suggest eating at the resort next door as the food and service were much better (huge fruit shakes!).
There was also a lot of construction happening next to the pool which could be annoying for some.
Unfortunately there is no negative score for this review. No impression since walking into the resort. Price Book through website it's cheaper than walking directly to book with the resort. We must make reservations through the website ourself. The receptionist service was terrible, when we showed the booking we just booked it to him. He just took a copy of our ID card and send the room key to us. When we asked which room we stayed, which way?, He shows irritability and just dab in the map on the counter for us to see, do not walk to send us in the room. Do not carry our bags..
When we reach the room. We see old room, terrible smells, dirty floor, curtain damaged almost the entire room and the bathroom is very bad smell of urine.
There is no bolt at the door. There is only a door knob.
In the room there is no wifi password. Just write that 'free wifi'. No resort phone! we have to use our own phone to call the wifi password. When we get the wifi password, we still can not access the Internet. Call the resort staff again about wifi, he replied back and checked then hang up the phone. No return call!!! We have to make 3 calls to use the internet.
At night in the room there are many mosquitoes.
Breakfast is an individual style. Prepare food by Burmese housewife by using the hands of the housewife's not wearing the gloves, the housewife picks the food in the dish. Then bring it to us. We can not accept and eat.
The food served is quite small. Consists of 1 short sausage, cold salads, 2 small chicken nuggets, fried eggs, and no fruit. The bread and drink is self service.
During the time we went to eat breakfast there was rain, the staff of this resort shaded and broken our umbrella. And no apologies.
Swimming pool available but close to the resort's redevelopment point.
We decided to stay here because 5 years ago we stayed here before. And in the past this resort was pretty and good service.
But this is terrible in all matters. If we went to Khanom again. We will not choose to stay here again strictly.
We went out to check out. There are no words of thanks from the staff.
"Do not recommend anyone to stay."
