Marriot at University places East Lansing is the best accomodation in East Lansing. You may wondr why I say like best accomodation. Reason is it's the place where the Michigan Flyer starts. This Michigan Flyer takes you to the nearest major Airport " DETROIT". This Michigan Flyer goes non stop and at mist economical. The best part of hotel is they offer you lots of services for their clients. Like u can book the room in advance and send your luggage to the hotel. When u can see America and then rest in East Michigan.. for a longer period.
Here to visit our son who is attending MSU. The hotel is centrally located to the campus and many dining options. Staff were friendly enough and the room nicely appointed. Parking is really convenient and, at $13/day, not a bad price. We enjoyed a simple breakfast, eggs, fruit, cereals (surprisingly, meat items available for $4 extra in the Concierge lounge) in a comfortable lounge. Not an exceptional experience, but clean, comfortable, and convenient.
Nice hotel close to the university with good proximity to restaurants and key campus sites. However the rules and regulations of the hotel are terrible for the general public but especially for elite members who are used to Marriott standards. For instance platinum and above members get the most ridiculously terrible concierge’s club that we have seen in years of visiting Marriott properties around the country and even internationally. There a better lounges and they are lower line hotels such as courtyard and Springhill suites. And the food is suspect as well. Not much variety at the restaurant oh and I guess the worst thing is that even as a platinum member you don’t get any meat for breakfast there are no proteins available without an extra charge. And then on The weekend when the lounge is closed the vouchers that top loyalty members have earned through all their many stays and money spent with Marriott don’t amount to anything but a basic continental breakfast that you could get at the holiday inn for free. They actually have the audacity to try to charge you for even a piece of bacon after you have sat down and try to enjoy the scanty offerings of their Red Roof Inn level buffet, even with a voucher that says you get free breakfast. Worse than the small variety of food is the essence of being tricked and being given no respect as a Marriot’ elite member. They should at least have the respect of members heck the whole public to give the Customer Service enough to let people know upfront what charges You will incite for breakfast when you check into the hotel. It’s very insulting and unpleasant especially if you ate trying to enjoy a relaxing morning. I would say this has been one of the worst experiences at a Marriot property and besides the welcoming and professional front office staff, it is probably as bland as staying at a low end a Hilton property such as a Hampton Inn, which is at least clean and comfortable like we have to give this hotel credit for. Just don’t be expected to get any appreciation for your Marriot membership. Horrible business plan from the management or owners of this franchise run property with their own manipulative methods and something the Marriot corporation should be embarrassed by. They are hurting the brand’s reputation and making it meaningless to be a loyal member. Shameful.
I did not know what to expect for this conference hotel. I was very happy to be at this hotel and I look forward to being there again. My room was warm and cozy, the bed was comfy, the bathroom was roomy and clean, the soaps were very nice, the hotel food was nice for breakfast, lunch, snack or dinner, the bar drinks were in wide selection.
I have to share our story. My wife and I checked in late this weekend on Friday night after 11pm. Booked a king room through a popular third party website but upon check in we were given a room with two double beds. After questioning why my king reservation was not available, the young lady told us directly that we booked through a third party and no other rooms were available. We were disappointed but understood that it was very late and accepted the room that was given. This is where it gets interesting. Upon opening room 407 we walked into an occupied room!!! After getting screamed at (totally justifiable btw) by the occupants (who somehow forgot to engage the deadbolt) we went back to the front desk and were promptly given another room. A room with a king bed!!! Like we booked!!! End of our drama but probably not for the couple in room 407. Now does Marriott require their agents to lie about the available rooms for guest who book through others? We seriously doubt the young lady had any other reason not to give us the room with a king that was booked although she did give us a room already occupied, but who knows. Did the room magically become available? Again, very doubtful. Shameful if Marriott's core values are to lie to guests. Also surprised at Marriott's position against third party bookings, no reward points given, no free internet given and quite possibly direct lies about availability. Just provide honest service and rooms with a safe, fridge or microwave which they don't. C'mon Marriott, I have been a rewards member for years and expect more.
