My husband and I stayed in the S'more Fun in the Gorge Cabin with 3 other couples for a small group trip from our church. This cabin did not disappoint. There were private bedrooms for each of us all with a private bathroom. All of the bedrooms were nice so no "fighting" over who got the better room. The kitchen was well stocked with all of the cooking supplies we needed (pots/pans, plates/cups, blender). There was a large table so all 8 of us could sit around the table. We had some time to play the guitar and sing together and we were all able to sit on the deck together with several outdoor chairs available. Only one bedroom did not have its own deck but it was next to the front door with a lovely bench to sit on and enjoy nature. We saw deer walking around each morning. We wanted a place where we could all hang out together and that was possible on the upper and lower decks, in the living room and around the table as well as sitting on the sun porch. The hot tub was nice although the water was not as hot as we would have liked. There was plenty of parking. The directions to the cabin are detailed but lead you right here. Just read them carefully. Wifi worked. The cabin was clean and the staff was very kind for check-in and check-out. Our group wanted something that was not too far from Lexington and this place delivered. We spent time hiking in the Gorge and kayaked in the Gorge Underground. We would love to come back again next year!
After 7 months of covid, we booked a couple’s getaway at The Haven at the Red - a cozy, romantic, secluded A-frame in the Gorge. Marketing materials said they had a fire pit, a grill, and a hot tub. They claimed they provided everything you needed but towels.
What they don’t show in photos is the steep angled driveway with no room to back out without driving off a cliff, a hot tub in the driveway (right beside the grill on the driveway) which was next to the fire pit - (adjoining the driveway).
Clearly the fire pit had never been used and for good reason. To sit by a fire you would have to sit directly on a steep asphalt driveway - chairs would fall over, otherwise - and you have the privilege of overlooking a busy street and highway with lights and engines and horns honking.
The place was clean but not kept up or stocked. We had one fork to share between us and just one bowl. There were no knives for cutting the steak - should have brought the hot dogs.
The shower curtain allowed most of the water to land on the hardwood floor and clearly gather under it, probably rotting out the floor under the shower, if one could reach such a conclusion from the sound of heaving floor trusses waiting to give way under the shower. I wondered at times if this was the time the shower would fall through to the floor below. Very exhilarating. The couch springs are completely broken through, comfy until you fall through the couch, and we never did get the TV satellite to work.
And Lying in bed in this secluded romantic destination, you can enjoy the lights of the highway and the stores which you can also see from the balcony, by the way, and you e can listen to the engines and horns of passing motorists, which is way better than the sounds of nature, I’m sure.
Finally, this zero star resort gets two stars because of the perilous thrill of driving in and out of the driveway.
Within an hour, we noticed two major things. The hot tub was dirty and cloudy and we did not even want to get into it also the washing machine did not work. What I mean by did not work means that when I put my laundry in it oh, I started it and on two other occasions came by and realize it was not washing and hit the start button again finally realizing on the third time that it was not washing at all. It looked all over the floor in the hall, all over my daughter's bedroom and I had to spend my first night sopping up water even after I had called the maintenance twice. I was not very happy. The next day first thing in the morning I called the office and I told them my two biggest complaints and she sent maintenance out and they really didn't even look at it at all. They listen to my story and told me that it was the pump going out. This led me to believe what I already figured that the washing machine had been broken for some time also due to the from being buckled in front of the washing machine. I asked if there were an empty cabin so that I could do my three loads of laundry as there were two ladies who were on their monthly menses and we had clothes that had to be washed also not to mention we had come to the cabin from another location so we had come with dirty clothes. I was told that I would have to drive to the nearest laundromat and do my own laundry. The nearest laundromat was a 30 minute drive one way and I had to spend my own money to wash and dry my laundry. So we did that while waiting on the cleaning people to come look at the hot tub and drain it, clean it and put fresh water in it. We arrived back at the cabin and sure enough no cleaning people had been there and we were aggravated because we were told these exact words, it takes several hours for the hot tub to drain. So now being aggravated that we're going to miss out a second night on the hot tub oh, my husband and I found an old hose in the woods next to the cabin and we used it to drain the hot tub ourselves. We felt like we were doing the work that somebody else should have. So now, almost 2 Days of our four-day vacation was gone. On the second day I was told that someone would get back with me about some sort of compensation for my dissatisfaction about the cabin. On Friday when we were leaving, I have not received a call yet. I called them yet again and left a message. I finally receive a call on Tuesday today when my original request for some kind of compensation was a week ago. I'm very disappointed because even though I know things happen at cabins but they may not necessarily know about, these two things certainly could have been prevented. I didn't even bother mentioning the dishwasher holds water and it stunk because I figured I wouldn't get an answer anyway. I tried attaching the video that I have that shows these things but it would not let me attach a video
We checked into Peaceful Getaway, which is an adorable 2 bedroom cabin on a pond with a game room that was nicer in person than in the pictures. The master bedroom had a very comfy bed, large TV with DVD player, and antique cabinet with hangers. The upstairs bed was reportedly less comfortable, but due to AC issues we did not use that bed. Both futons were used thanks to the provided sheets, and those were good. The pool table was a huge hit with my crew, and we also enjoyed the hot tub. The owners are right next door and are very nice. They make some DVDs and games available in the cabin. Unfortunately, the AC unit experienced problems while we were there, with temps reaching up to 98 degrees, so we had to switch cabins the second night. With a properly functioning AC, I would love to return to Peaceful Getaway, though kitchen shelves or cabinets would be nice to store groceries and hooks would be nice in the bathroom.
Scenic Cabin rentals scrambled to make sure that another cabin was clean for us to move to at 9pm since we could not sleep in the super hot cabin. Ron's Big House was much larger and had a working AC so we went with it. While it sleeps 12, the beds were not very comfortable, there is only 1 TV (in the living area- none in any of the bedrooms), everything outside the living room was EXTREMELY dated (think 1970's), and there was a mouse in the kitchen. There was a bottle cap in the bathroom floor when we arrived, and neither the fridge nor freezer looked clean inside. The bumper pool table was in poor condition, as well.
My friend and I stayed at the Lazy Days Cabin for the month of April. We found the cabin through Scenic Cabin Rentals located in Slade, KY.
The cabin was fantastic!!! It is centrally located inside of Cliffview Resort. The resort features it's own hiking trails, mountain fishing ponds, and a very scenic overlook. We would walk around the resort after dinner almost every night. The stars are beautiful there.
The cabin was perfect for us and our 2 children. The children stayed in the open loft upstairs and we each had our own bedrooms with a queen size bed. This made monitoring them very easy. We enjoyed the old airplane theme that was throughout the cabin. The children liked learning about the old planes. There is a nice hot tub, firepit, and grill off of the large deck in the back. We spent a lot of time playing games outside and had several fires. They will deliver wood to you! The cabin was very tidy and well kept. The kitchen was stocked with cookware, dishes and utensils we needed to cook and bake. It feels like a lot of love and attention went into this cabin and made us feel like we were at home.
We look forward to coming every year! If you are visiting the area, we highly recommend this cabin-just not in April when we want to stay!
