On Saturday, August 12, my family passed through Troy on our way to Branson, MO, where we own some vacation rentals. Although lately we’ve stayed at Drury Inns when possible, we do like Holiday Inn and decided Troy was a good place to stay because we were traveling with our small children, and it was passed their bedtime already. We checked in and got to our room at 9:15, and a little after 9:30, we realized that our bathroom sink was completely stopped up. I called down to the desk, and the desk clerk asked if we had pushed down on the knob in drain, and we had. She said that she would try to see if maintenance could come look at it, or we could move to a new room, but I told her the kids were already in bed, and our luggage was open, and we had brushed our teeth, etc. We preferred that someone came up to the room. She called back moments later to say that no one was available to service it that night. However, she told me to make sure I came down to the front desk before we left in the morning, and she told me to tell the manager at the desk. She also said that we would be compensated because they want all guests to have a good experience. She told me that she would leave a message for the management and that they would be expecting me.
The next morning, we were in the breakfast area, and a member of the breakfast crew overheard my son’s disappointment at them not having the cereal that he wanted. I really wish I could remember her name, because she was very friendly and helpful. She pulled the cereal from the cabinet and gave it to my son. They had the cereal after all, but they just didn’t have enough dispensers to house more than a certain number, so this particular cereal was not out for that day. I thanked her very much for her kindness, and we went to the pool.
When I saw her again before we left, she asked me if I’d like her to package up some cinnamon rolls for my kids before we left. I told her “no, thank you,” but I was still pleased with the offer. What a friendly lady! I made a point to read her name badge, and I thought for sure that I’d remember her name, but it escapes me nonetheless.
When we left, my husband and kids went out to grab the car, and I walked to the front desk. I asked for the manager, but he/she was busy, so I told the girl at the desk about the clogged sink. I reiterated about how badly it needed attention, and then she smiled, and I left. No mention of compensation.
