I admit I had very high expectations for Canyon Villa. I did lots of research. I wanted someplace beautiful, where I could enjoy great food and wine that would be the antithesis of our home in Florida in August. After all, I had just turned down a Greek Cruise by promising my boyfriend we could make better use of our relatively short vacation time with a lot less hassle, right here in the USA.

I enjoy photography, and I had a fast trip through Paso Robles many years ago and wanted to return with time to visit more wineries and take more pictures. The landscape and vineyards had stayed in my mind and I thought this might be just the place to satisfy my very decadent desires for a few indulgent days!

When I saw The Canyon Villa’s website, I was very excited, however my boyfriend was a bit skeptical. He was a Napa guy. He had never even heard of Paso Robles.

As we made the beautiful drive down the Pacific Coast Highway toward Paso Robles I kept my fingers crossed. We drove around the corner and reached the gate of the Villa. We both smiled, and our time in Paso was off to a great start.

We were greeted by the Villa’s owner, the vibrant, always interesting, Kath and given a tour. We met her husband Wills in the kitchen. Within the first few minutes we were sure we had found a very special place. The Villa is beautiful with views from every window, actually it is beautiful from wherever you look!

We arrived in time for Wills’ daily appetizers and Kaths’ wine tasting, and still had plenty of time to take our cameras out for sunset and a visit to the charming town of Paso Robles.

I am not a morning girl, but I was really looking forward to breakfast. Wills creates delicious, beautiful healthy morning meals each day. We choose to have our meal outside in the garden. We had our pressed coffee, and an always interesting play on fruit with hummingbird entertainment and entree with bathing finches. Seriously, we lingered over each bite of food. Wills is a food artist!

Our room was perfect with a fluffy comforter and lots of pillows. We didn’t need the fireplace but had lots of fun in the jacuzzi! I also enjoyed sitting on our patio with some tea after a busy day.

There were many afternoon choices beyond the wine tasting. but don’t miss the wine tasting. :-). There are plenty of local dining choices from plain to fancy, and a lovely park in the center of town.

Taking a drive in any direction is fun and if you go far enough you might reach Big Sur or San Francisco, or the other way to LA. Just driving in the area is cool. If you take Highway 46 and you like to take pictures, plan to stop a lot!

I can’t say enough wonderful things about Canyon Villa. In my opinion, it is an Inn that rivals the best in the world! Not only will I return, I plan to bring a few couples to share our wonderful discovery and to meet our new friends, Katherine and Wills.

Chef Wills and Kath were exceptional hosts! It was a pleasant surprise to be greated by Kath personally upon our arrival. First of all, the property itself is so beautiful
with manicured landscape, and perched on the hill overlooking the local vinyards. We loved the various birds scurrying around outside. Our room (Siena) was not only immaculately clean, but beautiful and relaxing with a fabulous view from our balcony. The bed was so comfortable, and cozy. Wine hour, and breakfast were our favorite. Kath shared lovely wines, and Chef Wills made us the most delicious tastes for wine hour, including various cheeses, dips, home made lavash crackers. The breakfasts were superb! We were able to enjoy mini croissants ("cornetti") with jam, a fruit parfait with granola, mint and lime zest, a fritatta with homemade Italian sausage, avocado toast, and orange slices with a maple ginger glaze. To be honest, the wine hour, and breakfast was the food we enjoyed most while in Paso. Our only regret- not adding on the dinner with Chef Wills (or staying Sunday for dinner!- We will be sure to do that next time!) We will certainly be back!

Catherine and William deliver the perfect vacation experience. Their openness and warmth enveloped us from the moment we walked in the door. Just walking in the door is spectacular, enjoying the vistas and flowers and birdsongs. Our room was perfect, with a fireplace and balcony. The living room invites curling up with a good book and a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Plus, the food is t0-die-for. We enjoyed daily breakfast and wine-hour and Sunday Supper. This is a must!

As we drive down the winding road, away from The Canyon Villa... we have true mixed emotions....heavy hearts because we are leaving... but excited by the realization that we CAN AND WILL return again before too long. We just experienced our 12th stay at the CV and are counting the days until our next exquisite visit. Diane and Jim are the most wonderful "hosts" and have created an environment that is warm, friendly, sophisticated, relaxing... in a word, "awesome". The breakfasts (which I try to re-create, BUT CAN'T) are wonderful; our room is charming, the scenery is breath-taking and Paso Robles, in our opinions, far out-shines Napa and Sonoma. We will find a way to return to The Canyon Villa within the year, and every year, even if it means driving from Virginia with our dog, AGAIN!! Thanks, Diane and Jim, for your friendship and for creating our perfect second "home".

My husband and I stayed at the villa as we were passing through on our way home from Santa Barbara. Beyond exceeded our expectations!! Our room was immaculate upon arrival, and we were greeted with such hospitality. The highlight was the gourmet breakfast. Such an incredible meal! Communication was excellent from the time of booking all the way through our stay. We highly recommend and hope to visit again when we can bring our friends!
