On this trip we stayed in a beautiful Vagabond Inn in Pasadena, Ca on Colorado Blvd. The room and bath were top of the line. Room was Huge! So was breakfast. Great pool. All for $101.00 .We then stayed for 4 nights in Vagabond Inn in Palm Springs recently renovated with huge pool and breakfast and fridge and microwave huge tv etc. for $89.00 a night. Now we come to Motel 6. Room was tiny. Towels were threadbare, noisy, walls paper thin. Could actually hear next door person on their cell phone at 11 PM All for $149.00 a nite. No fridge or microwave or anything. No breakfast , No coffee Ridiculous !!
I stay at this Motel 6 whenever I’m in this area. It’s cheaper than the motels in Solvabg and there are some very good restaurant options within walking distance. The motel is basic but clean and comfortable and if you stay on the backside where the parking lot is, you don’t hear the freeway or pool activities. I also like that there’s a multiplex theater next door. It’s close to the freeway and an easy drive to Solvang or Lompoc. It’s a good place to use as a base to explore the area.
This past weekend for Danish Days in Solvang, most places were booked or incredibly expensive, so even though $199 was overpriced for this room, it was the best option. I was here four years ago, and the room was remodeled and looked better than I remembered. No fills, (bring your own shampoo, hairdryer) no in-room coffee machine, but beds were comfortable and room was clean. We had a room on the second floor, facing the street versus the pool and it was pretty quiet.
I am sure on a normal weekend, the rate would be much more reasonable, so even if you want to do wine tasting in Solvang, Buelton is just 3 miles away. The Hitching Post and A.J. Spurs, which offer great dinners are nearby as well as Pea Soup Anderson's so you have plenty of options besides sausages and Aebleskivers! There is also a McDonalds right next to it, so you can get morning coffee pretty fast.
For Europeans this is a brand you can trust. We have tripped around California and yet to have Motel 6 disappoint us. Clean, convenient, and cost efficient - a great way to see America; a great way to fall in love with America.
The real cute thing is the pools that we jumped into after a day in the road. Yes, you can hear the traffic from most - but that's way they are Mo-tels...
The room was a regular motel room, nothing much to tell about it.
However we had the weirdest experience in the hotel pool, when my son and I were bathing. My husband was in the parking lot organizing the car, when he noticed a man was filming us in the pool, while hiding behind the stairs!!! He confronted him and the man promptly left - we told the manager, who promptly checked the surroundings of the hotel, and also called the police, but it was obviously too late.
I guess you can call that bad luck, or random incident, but when the evening came, there were several teenage girls having fun in the pool, and meanwhile, on the parking lot next to the pool, were several men eating the sandwiches while watching the girls! They were not even trying to hide, as the pool is a semi-public area, so anyone can come and watch.
I don't blame the staff of the hotel for this - they are trying their best at doing things right, but I believe this pool needs to be protected from the public parking lot right next to it. Meanwhile, just be on the lookout if you use the pool.
