WOW!!! STUNNING!!BEAUTIFUL!!! That’s what comes to mind immediately after u step in at Jungle Oasis Bungalows . A real one of a kind place!!! So gorgeous and well integrated in the natural environment, this place is HEAVEN.
The owners were so accommodating, genuine and friendly, and willing to help in any way. Our room was spacious, very clean and the beddings totally comfortable; what’s even better was the romantic view to the Volcano the main attraction.
The restaurant offered a wide range of fresh local foods- be it local with the delicious island chicken curry and fish , beef or on request at affordable prices.
The Bungallows offers wide range of tours. It was a highlight of our stay- sooo perfect looking and ideally situated to admire the sun setting down on the mountains with a bottle of Tusker beer in your hand on top of the banyan tree. That may sound cliche, but really, the experience is totally magical! Nothing else but the sound of the Volcano birds singing at twilight; so calming when your on top of the big banyan tree . The atmosphere was so relaxing , everything was beautiful ; as if you entered a natural reserve.
A big thumb up for this Jungle Oasis Owners!😘👍👍👍
We stayed in the treehouse. The only redeeming feature of the place is the view of the Mount Yasur which is pretty spectacular (hence 2 stars rather than 1). The treehouse itself is in poor condition. The stairs are uneven, there are holes in the mosquito nets and the floor is dirty. We returned to our room to find some of our food missing. It was only later that evening when we heard squeaking and scratcing noises that we looked under the bed to find rats polishing off the remainder of our food.
I mentioned this to the owner the next morning and instead of apologising he said “ok we’ll put out some poison”. Generally, we got the impression that he seemed more interested in making money out of us than whether we were enjoying the trip or had any questions about the surrounding area. The food was poor.
I understand that Vanuatu as a country has been hit with a number of devastating cyclones in recent years and that the infrastructure isn’t quite there but this wasn’t good enough.
As a customer if you pay s***hole prices its fair enough if you get a s***hole but for what Jungle Oasis charge you would expect them to have achieved basic levels of sanitation, clenliness and hospitality.
Jungle Oasis is at a very good location for acess to the volcano and staying at the top of a tree is a great experience. However I would not recommend you stay here or would I stay here again. Firstly all of the places listed above that you can walk to is not true. You can walk to the volcano but that is it. The others are too far and you will be charged a lot of money to be driven to the places, like we were. We found the hosts wife very lovely however the host tried to scam money from us wherever possible. Even to the point of asking for more money for the accommodation because the money from Air BnB doesn’t come through straight away. There were also rats in our room that ate our food, and the general cleanliness of the place was not up to a nice standard. I would recommend looking elsewhere for accomodation if you are travelling to Tanna.
I have lived in Port Vila for the past 7 month at that time and finally decided to visit Tana to see the volcano. Colleagues recommended the Jungle Oasis and Whitegrass. I chose the Jungle Oasis cause my local colleagues mentioned the adventure coming with it and the close distance to the volcano. I've been picked by the owner who was very friendly and welcoming however on the way to the resort he stopped over several times for private matters and at one stage he drove to a hospital to visit a family member and even asked me to join him. My trip was early in the morning at 5am checking in at Port Vila and all I wanted was getting to my room and take a shower. The drive was about an hour and by the time we arrived he dropped me off because he had to attend a important meeting. His daughter showed me up to my tree house room cause I booked it in advance, only to tell me minutes later that I have to move cause they reserved the main room for 3 other guests. So I had to move to the second room which was just big enough to fit in one king size bed and a night table. Everything was dusty cause a day prior the volcano erupted heavily ash. So I kept my self busy sweeping. After cleaning the room and the balcony I wanted to take a shower just to find out that water will be only available when electricity would be turned on and that only after dawn. So I walked around and made a trip to the Jungle where I washed myself in a small river. The volcano trip was just amazing, however it was very difficult to sleep in this dusty environment, only to be woken up before 5am to be asked whether I want to check out earlier because the owner had to do a trip to the town anyway and whether I would like to have a free ride. All in all I am pretty adventurous however I need basics to make myself comfortable. At least I need water to wash myself or a clean place to sleep. I've slept in the jungle of Borneo before and even though sleeping an a bamboo mat on the floor, it was clean and a river to wash myself was available. This was a bit too much for me I guess.
I would not recommend this for anyone who thinks they need basic such as a clean sleeping place, water and electricity. This place is perfect if you want absolute adventure. However I had a great experience seeing the volcano.
I stayed only 1 night (fortunately)here due to my pre booked tour with airtaxi got cancelled. The location is really good, just 2 minutes walk to the entrance of the volcano and you can see and hear the volcano explosion. However, the accomondation environment is very disappointing, I understand its a basic style place, but it is not acceptable that the basic hygiene is not good. In addition, there is barely water coming out from the tap, the bed is full of dust and the price they charge is expensive, it's 5000 vatu per person for one way transfer, 3500 vatu per night for a tiny room in the tree house without light and have a rat. In terms of meal, they charged me 1000 vatu for a cucumber omelette. There is better option for similar price.
Besides, the owner was not helpful, he gave me zero suggestions for where to go when I asked him where can I spend the 5 hours before the volcano tour and he was barely around the place, it's not easy to seek help if you need anything.
