We were lucky to be able to book a room at the last minute during Carnival week and very pleased with the room allocated. The bed was comfortable, bedding and towels clean and fresh. en-suite bathroom was clean and tidy. The short walk to The Globe for breakfast was fine and the food on offer was delicious. There was a good choice of cereal, dried fruits, juice, yogurt and fresh fruit We were able to make our own toast with extra butter and jam/matmalade available. The staff were polite and helpful. Mill house is in a great position for walking to the quay and to the beautiful Staithe Street. We love Wells and would return to Mill House. Thank you.
I stayed here recently in what can only be referred to as the broom cupboard, a single room that is very small. I was told at booking that I would have to walk to the Globe for breakfast, but it's not fun in the pouring rain. I agree with another comment about stingy butter, only enough is given for one and slice, if you want more you have to keep asking, which gets tiresome. I didn't find the Globe waitresses to be all that attentive, being ignored when waiting to be seated and taking ages to take my order when only a few other people were present, are 2 examples. The Mill house is looking tired and needs updating, the garden is a mess, no idea what the gardener does all day. I have to say that I won't be staying here again, even though I have stayed here a few times before.
My twin sister and I booked this for our birthday treat after looking at the website. On arrival we were disappointed to find that all was not as we expected. Although we had been informed after our booking that we would have to take our breakfast in a separate building, the pub down the road, when we arrived we found the absence of any staff on site to be a bit disconcerting. Had I been on my own, it would have been quite unsettling. The room was fine although a bit tired. The gardens were definitely not as shown in the photos on the website, very much work in progress.
Breakfast, which was much looked forward to, was not at all up to scratch. Coffee was cold, toast consisted of two small pieces each and had to be requested. On top of that the whole fried breakfast was served in a bowl which made eating it an unnecessary chore. The breakfast experience was further ruined by loud music piped through the room. Despite requests for it to be turned off or down in volume, we were told that "it was not policy to allow that".
We stayed with friends for two nights in May 2015. Unfortunately not all details are as shown on the website http://www.millhouse-wells.co.uk/
Breakfast is not served in the house, it is served in a nearby hotel. We were only informed after paying a 50% deposit. Luckily it was not raining either morning. The website clearly shows a breakfast room in the house.
The window in our room had no latch, and therefore also slightly ajar. A previous review had mentioned this, and the owners had responded to that review but not the statement regarding window security. As well as a security risk this allowed wind to blow constantly into our room. (Picture uploaded)
The website indicates that most rooms have small fridges. Neither ours nor our friends did. Clearly we were both unlucky. Other travellers may want to check beforehand.
The bed was particularly lumpy.
We raised these concerns with staff at the hotel which seems to run the house. The person we spoke to did indicate that the owner would be informed, and asked for a time we would be available at the house. Despite waiting at the house no owner arrived.
Breakfast itself was of very good quality, although strangely some extras seemed to be in short supply. The small amount of butter/jam/marmalade available seemed oddly stingy.
The house is in an excellent location for Wells, a short walk to the quay.
We had a very pleasant stay with our young baby for one night. I was very impressed with the size of the room (plenty of space to put up our travel cot), the cleanliness and the friendly feel of the room. I would just recommend looking at the security of the window though as the lock wasn't working properly (I'd have worried leaving things in there if staying more than one night). I'm sure that can be rectified easily.
The breakfast was fantastic. They were able to provide me with a full vegetarian breakfast which doesn't happen everywhere. My husband said his was also very good and every item on the plate was hot. The waitress was really attentive and offered to get us a high chair etc.
Overall, good value for money.
