We had originally booked another hotel but a couple of days before they contacted us to advise they couldn't let us stay due to maintenance but would we be happy to stay here instead. It was just across the street from our original place and looked and sounded good from the reviews.
Firstly if you arrive in Sinaia by train and think its only a 40 min walk... think again and don't do it especially with suitcases. The walk is steep and we were hot and breathless by the time we got there. We checked and it should be around 20 Lei from the station to the pension by taxi.
Dragos was very welcoming and had contacted us via WhatsApp before we had arrived. We were then taken to our room and given a choice of bedrooms so we chose the one with a balcony. Both rooms looked very nice though.
We had a very comfortable king size bed, a seating area, kitchen area with kettle, microwave, fridge and numerous coffee makers. Plenty of cups and cutlery too. Nice views from the balcony and through the skylights.
Body wash and shampoo provided. The shower was good, plenty of hot water. It takes a while to come, so suggest turning on the shower a minute or 2 before you want it. Everywhere was very clean.
The Pension is very close to the Peles and Pelsor castles. Walking distance around 10 minutes. Also about the same distance walk to the Gondola.
A nice local restaurant Popasul Haiducilor just round the corner for typical Romanian food.
Peles castle was so very busy.. so much so that we didn't even go in. You can walk in the grounds and view the house from the outside. Coach loads upon coach loads of people... even carnage before it officially opened. We arrived at 9am and it was crazy.
We stayed 2 nights which gave us a full day and morning to see the area which was plenty of time.
We paid with credit card and had no issues at all.
This is a top notch place to stay and the two room apartment is warm, modern, spacious and very clean. The owner is very helpful and it is overall highly recommended. The one drawback is paying using a foreign bank card. The owners card machine is rigged so you have to pay in your own currency at a derisory rate. You will not succeed to pay in Lei and convert at the Visa / Mastercard rate. I tried choosing to pay in Lei 3 times but each time it reverted to GBP. My advice is to agree to pay in cash and convert money at the exchange offices in town at a better rate to avoid this rip off. Its a pity that this occurs as this leaves you with a bad impression at the end of a lovely stay. The owner told me other foreigners had also complained about this lack of effective choice of currency.
This pension is clean, new, and in a good location. The room was large and well appointed. What made it outstanding is the exceptional customer service. In fact, when I left some clothing in the closet after I had checked out and had gone to Bucharest, the staff at the hotel made certain that they were able to get the items to me ASAP. They went to so much trouble and were so kind about it. I am very grateful for the excellent service. It is the sign a truly remarkable experience.
Two couples spend 2 nights. We rented a 2 bedroom app. located in the higher neighborhood of SINAIA. Private parking on The premises. The view from the bedrooms balconies was wonderful and the air was refreshing. The owner, Dragoş, very nice and helpful. The app. was big, spacious and well equipped, as were the kitchen and both bathrooms. Very affordable price.
Pension Carmen Sylva is located in the Furnica area, probably the best part of Sinaia, close to the Peles Castle and Sinaia Monastery. We stayed in a very spacious two bedroom apartment, each bedroom with its own bathroom, with a large living and open kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped. Very clean, sunny, modern apartment. The host is really friendly and is always trying to satisfy all of his guests. Private parking lot available. Free excellent wifi.
