My wife and I stayed here in 2018 on the recommendation of friends who visited Hilltop Country Lodge in 2017.
We booked another stay in 2020 on our way from George to Plettenberg Bay.g
When our host showed us our room (room #5), I exclaimed that we should have booked for a week!
Standard part of the introduction, while standing on the garden in front of the house, is that Hennie Schoeman points to several restaurants in Wilderness.
The breakfast is one of the most sumptuous breakfasts that I have ever seen. Fruit salad, eggs made to your preference, freshly toasted bread, jams and delicious tea.
While we enjoyed our breakfast, the owner brought us up to date on several South-African historic and contemporary facts.
Should we decide that we want to play again at the George Golf Club and in need to stay somewhere, there is absolutely no question of choice for me. It will be at the Hilltop Country Lodge.

We had an amazing 2-night stay st Hilltop Country Lodge during our honeymoon! The room was extremely clean, comfortable and the view was magnificent!! The breakfast was amazing and Hennie and his team were so friendly and welcoming!! We wish we could have stayed longer! Such a relaxing and good time!
We stayed at the lodge together with our two little girls (1/4). The garden is stunning and offers lots of space to run around. The room is ok, but has come a little bit in the years so the whole Lodge. The price for value seems to be rather high.
Our 2 nights at Hilltop could not have been better. Lovely large room with deck overlooking the English-style gardens and low-key pool. But the view from high on this point of land between Wilderness and Victoria Bay is breathtaking, day or night. Chickens, geese, and birds abound but the well-trained rooster stays quiet until at least 8am! Wonderful breakfast - all that fresh fruit! You must drive into town for dinners which is a slight hassle but worth it to stay at Hilltop.
What a beautiful place to stay for our last few days in South Africa. I'm sat on our balcony overlooking Wilderness Bay and we really don't want to leave. The grounds are stunning with beautiful birds serenading us and Mr Quail and his family parading around - its paradise. Perfectly placed for Victoria Bay, (great for body boarding), George and the great restaurants in Wilderness. The rooms are perfect - we have got the King Suite and our friends are very comfortable in their deluxe room. Lovely shower, spa bath and toiletries. The beds are extremely comfortable and there's a room safe, tea and lovely coffee with fresh milk every day. We've enjoyed our breakfasts of delicious fresh fruit and yogurt, followed by boiled eggs, warm croissants, toast, jams, teas and coffee. Meats and cheeses are also available.
Hennie the owner has been a perfect host (there's a wonderful sense of humour hiding there) and whilst his wife Magda has been indisposed the irrepressible Hilda has been wonderful. Many thanks to all the staff for their attention and particularly for the Malawi rendition of 'Happy Birthday' on my husbands birthday. Memories to cherish. We shall miss you and hope to be back.
