We stayed in the Grand Tower Horizon Club Premier Bund View Room. The executive lounge (Horizon Club) is 100% worth it! We loved spending time there eating and drinking with amazing views. They have a great gym. The hotel is close walk to the subway. The windows in the room were from the floor to the ceiling. TV had access to HBO so we could watch GoT finale. we went next door to the Jin Xuan Chinese Restaurant on the 53rd floor of the Ritz-Carlton for dinner, where my boyfriend proposed!!! We then went to the rooftop bar for drinks and then back to the executive lounge for more drinks. Fantastic service all round!! 5 stars!!
Chose to stay at Pudong Shangri-la hotel due to it's excellent service and location within the shopping district and other attractions like the Oriental Pearl tower, the famous Bund along the Huangpu river, the World Trade Center and others. Hotel gym and swimming pool was excellent. Took a day to visit Shanghai Disneyland too.
This hotel epitomizes everything about China - a old wing and a new wing symbolizing the old part and new part of China. Everything in the hotel (and the country!) is on a massive scale - the restaurant, the ballrooms, the lobbies etc. The hotel was catering to 3 large conferences without breaking a sweat. First up, the rooms. Rooms are spacious and has a pleasing decor. The bathrooms have all the amenities you could come to expect of a Shangri-La. The views from most rooms are of the river/Shanghai Tower / TV tower making for some excellent views. Hence, the location is also perfect for a walk to the Bund and nearby shopping and for a walk/ferry to old Shanghai.
The spread in the restaurants are massive with multiple counters catering to all kinds of menu options with a handful of vegetarian options as well. The room dining service is fast and courteous. The gym was reasonably equipped - though a little compact. But considering that there are 2 gyms - it was never crowded.
Will definitely stay here or other Shangri-La's in a future journey
I stay regularly on business at the hotel though feel I should write an updated review as always a great experience, and the views really good. Checking in at Horizons Lounge was welcoming and seamless by Judy - who runs a tight & very professional team. Remembers all regular customers and details, makes feels so welcome and deals with any requests.
The views of the Bund while eating breakfast and also Pearl tower / SWFC illuminated at night make a memorable experience and photo. Many malls, restaurants, 5 minutes to the Bund and close to Metro line and connections. Has good pool, gym and selection of restaurants.
Service is always 5* and consistent no matter which staff are on. Using Horizons Lounge is a bonus and treat, less busy and a good place to eat and work too in comfort especially when working late or weekends. Many staff to mention, so just a few that were on regularly this visit and looked after supported by Angelia who front of reception in Horizons meet & greet each day taking time and interest in guests, with a welcoming smile. Freda, Ivy and Ciel also worked hard and looked after customers.
All Hotels are similar but with Shangri-La the consistent and 5* experience are worth a visit. The professional and welcoming staff make a large hotel feel more like a home from home for a regular traveler & visitor. Back again soon
Location: Along the river on the Pudong side of Shanghai
Hotel: 2 big wings of ~20 floors; pool, gym, shops, restaurants and big lobby with bar
Room: Mine was of good size partially facing the bund
Positives: Very good location if you need to visit offices along river (such as Citi Tower)
Negatives: Not many that I could think of but finishing and service weren't excellent hence 4 stars
Ranking at time of writing: #10 of 5414 Hotels in Shanghai
I had to visit our offices in Citi Tower and hence opted for the Shangri-la (the other hotel in the vicinity is Ritz in the IFC). The hotel is situated across from the IFC on one end and along the promenade on the other. The hotel is big with 2 towers (each having their own lobby and reception/concierge). There are several restaurants, bar and shops in the hotel.
My room was of good size with a king sized bed and a table/chair with ample space to walk around. The bathroom had a shower and a bathtub. The finishing were slightly dated but not too bad. I had a side view of the bund.
The breakfast was a decent spread of western and Asian offerings but was spread widely across the restaurant (a bit unusual in my experience). The staff was prompt but not over the top.
All in a good hotel to stay at if you're visiting Shanghai on work and have to visit offices along the river/IFC.
