Lovely lively hostel but prepare its gets really cold here at night!! Gorgeous views from the pool, pool is also freezing and often a bit murky looking. Nice chilled area with a pool table (in much demand!). Bar is a little limited in the cocktail front for me. Showers were a shared affair, all fine, nice and warm and a good size, no complaints on the toilets either. Kinda felt like glamping in the UK. Towels on hire for 20 baht with 100 baht deposit. Lots of activities on offer through the hostel, great way to meet people! Bed were by far the comfiest we've stayed in in Thailand so far. But bring layers!! Not a far walk to the town, maybe 15 minutes at max.
This is a perfect hostel for young travellers looking to meet similar people and who are up for a drink. Every night there is music and normally drinking games of some sort until midnight.
We stayed in a 12-bed dorm which was perfectly nice, cleaned daily and has lockers (if you have your own padlock). However the one single-person room I went in was definitely not a good alternative, it was very small with an uncomfortable bed and holes in the floor.
The showers aren’t particularly clean or powerful but are warm.
The pool is small but is cleaned regularly and the view is amazing.
The buffet breakfast is quite extensive but not the tastiest, we preferred going to the place just across the road which was delicious and did great iced coffee!
It’s also easy to rent motorbikes either from the hostel or a place just next door, very cheap and a great way to get to all the sites of Pai.
After hearing about this place from several people back home in the UK i thought id book weekend here..
Here i am 10 days later and im still here! The food here is great, they even serve a free meal each day.
The barside pool has an absolutely breathtaking view, even if you dont stay here its worth coming to chill for the day.
Stayed in dorms the first night, basic but comfortable and clean.
For the rest of the trip i stayed in the deluxe cabin and that was great, pai is relatively cool so a fan is more than enough to keep cool.
Everyday they've got various performance classes, had a blast being taught some poi and contact staff tricks.
Twice a week there is a fire show, always good vibes and a good turn out.
Campfires and conmunal bamboo huts fall of hammocks dotted around everywhere if you want to chill!
All the hostel staff are really chill and helpful, weve had great fun with them and some of the locals who visit!
Seen a couple negative reviews about the showers and prescense of bugs - the showers are fine.. sometimes the floor is a tad muddy but how else do you wash the mud off? xD
Yes there are bugs and lizards everywhere outside - this goes for anywhere outdoors in Thailand so observe and enjoy some of the wonderful wildlife!
Honestly had the best of experiences here and can't recommend it enough.
Be sure to check out the Pai Hole opposite the hostel, awesome board game cafe/toastie and little store.
A friend and I stayed here for 5 days and we had a good time! Pai can probably be explored in just 2 or 3 days but staying at Circus hostel meant that we could have some (well needed) time to put our feet up and relax after a busy few days in Bangkok/Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai! The pool is great and had a gorgeous view, there is a pool table and all the staff are very friendly and helpful! You can rent bikes directly from this hostel too which was very convenient. The room we stayed in didn’t have aircon (we were aware of this before we booked) but did have a fan - this helped but the room did get stuffy at times!! That being said, it’s not the place to come to stay in your room, but rather the place to come to make new friends and explore.
I came here a couple of weeks ago with my girlfriend and stayed in one of the little huts. It had a double bed and a large fan, which kept the room cool. Everyone there was really friendly, and the volunteers and staff were really helpful. In particular, the volunteers arranged a cake and some complimentary drinks on my girlfriends 21st, which made the evening extra special - I know she was very grateful!
We originally planned to stay 2 nights, but the amazing view from the pool, combined with the welcoming environment meant we ended up extending our stay to 5 nights! We just couldn’t leave, and found many people there who had done exactly the same thing.
The reviews you may see that say it is dirty etc are wrong - the toilets were always clean when I went in them and the room was spotless when we arrived. Sometimes the floor by the shower may be slightly muddy but it would be impossible to keep it spotless in an outdoorsy hostel like Circus is!
Each morning you can pay for a substantial buffet breakfast which is good, and in the evening they do free dinner at 8pm. There was also a free taxi service into town (however it is under 10 minutes if you choose to walk), and regular fire shows in the evening either at Circus hostel or one nearby.
In summary, Pai Circus hostel is the best one I’ve been to, so if you enjoy socialising, amazing views, and getting some escape from the hustle and bustle of city-central hostels then this is definitely the place to visit.
