Let me say at the very beginning that if you have to stay in this part of Batangas, this is the best option that is available in the area. Writing this review so that readers get their expectations right..
1. The hotel has a beautiful drive-way which has got a kind of old world charm. The hotel entrance is quite picturesque..
2. However if you reach the hotel after a long drive from wherever you have come, DO NOT expect to be able to immediately check in to your room.. Irrespective of how many days in advance you have made the hotel reservation, more often than not, you would have to wait at the hotel reception till the hotel staff finish cleaning your room to make it ready for occupation..So you could spend those 30 mins admiring the beautiful drive-way and sinking into the really comfortable couches ( no pun intended here, these sofas are really comfortable) in the hotel lobby..
3. When you check in, make sure to ask for rooms in the new building. The rooms are bigger, and the plumbing is marginally better and the rooms have 2 Balconies, which is really a plus.. Although, these rooms do not have the intercom facility and you would need to use Watsapp or Viber to communicate with the hotel staff this is still the better option even though the WiFi drops pretty frequently..
4. Do not expect good house-keeping. And make sure you carry your own toiletries..The ones provided at the hotel could be used to do laundry and not much else..
5. The early mornings are beautiful here. You wake up to the chirping of the birds.. The hotel also has a beautiful mango orchard behind the gym where you should take a stroll if it is still not cordoned off..
6. The Breakfast spread is a joke. You have watered down juice and stale fruits as a staple. The live egg counter is operational only if the chef is around which is not very often..
7. The Hotel has two big swimming pools..
To summarize, the place has it's pluses and minuses . So I would suggest that you set your expectations right, if you want to make the most of the experience..

The rooms are superb, berry spacious, with living room and kitchen. It feels like a studio condo, probably slightly bigger than most studio condos in Makati. I was able to exercise in my room, since the gym was quite small.

It had a bathtub. The amenities inside the bathroom include: toothbrush, soap, shampoo and shower gel. It has a bathtub and bidet.

The pool is big., with separate kiddie pool.

Breakfast is very limited, though. Coffee is great.

They give you sweet, iced coffee of their famous Batangas Barako blend in a martini glass, upon booking a room. I find that touch classy and clever. It’s a nice showcase of a famous local product.

Reception and reservation are a breeze to talk to and they’re always been helpful. I like how they have a new wing built with newer rooms available. We stayed in one of the new suites last year and it was roomy, and comfortable. It’s just a hassle to bring your luggage if your rooms are there, as finding a bell boy can be a bit difficult so lugging your own luggage up and down the stairs in the scorching hot sun is not fun at all.

For this year, we stayed in one of the older rooms in the older building and while still roomy, you can see the age of the place, ie the toilet is a bit cracked and the fridge shelves have some wear and tear on them. It’s still clean and comfortable, however. The aircon is new, if anything.

There are two pools available as well as a gym and overall ambiance of the place really makes you feel like you’re living in a refreshing spot out of town. The breakfast buffet is just right, I think, as I’m the type that doesn’t like an overwhelming variety of food. They serve the usual cereal, but just one type, and they have an omelette station, but without meat available, and they have pastries and breads, but about 8 varieties only etc. their juice section has only 2 choices etc.

A plus is that they can book you a van for rent, which is especially handy as cabs are non-existent.

Pontefino Hotel and Residences is not difficult to miss in the city of Batangas because of its colorful residential units. The hotel’s good location (5-minute drive from SM Batangas) can easily attract guests, foreigners or locals, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re on a budget; one night for a standard room costs P6000 (as of Oct 2016).

When my colleagues and I arrived at Pontefino, we were greeted by the warm smiles of the staff. They were really friendly and accommodating to their guests. Downside though, I learned some of my workmates received welcome refreshments a few of us didn’t. Don’t know why😦

I checked the pool located at the back of the lobby and restaurant. It was quite big with a couple of native lounge chairs around its periphery. It was pretty and inviting but I noticed the water’s not that clear. Hesitantly, we went swimming not once but twice. We didn’t get any itch or rash so I guess the water’s fine.

The rooms were nice and spacious. Ours had a nice view of the pool but it needs a bit of upkeeping most especially the bathroom (parts of the wall had stains and looked old). The rooms had slippers, shampoos, soaps, toothbrushes and toothpastes but given the price of the room, I was expecting more like bathrobes, lotions, a safety box etc. Internet connection/ WiFi inside the rooms needs improvement too; the one at the lobby, however, is faster.

Room prices include a buffet breakfast served at the restaurant just beside the lobby at 6 in the morning to 10am. There were breads, cereals, Filipino dishes and fruits. They also served unlimited brewed coffee (Batangas’ famous Kapeng Barako), tea and one fruit juice. The choices were few but the food tasted nice, they just need to cut down the oil on their Chicken steak (I think it’s Adobo). My favorite was the lomi which is also a Batangas specialty, so don’t forget to try it.

Another thumbs-up for me is its gym facilities. They have treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, weights and balls. Their yoga mats need some cleaning; it was a bit scary to use it even after putting a large towel over it.

Overall, Pontefino is a nice hotel with warm and accommodating staff but I think it’s quite pricey given the quality of its facilities. The colorful residential units, on the other hand, are really a stand-out and can serve as beautiful backdrops for your OOTD. :)Location-wise, its very accessible by jeepney, tricyle or cab. The place is currently under construction and sometimes we would hear loud construction-like noises in our room, sometimes as late as 9 in the evening. It was disturbing during the first night but we got used to it. Hopefully, the hotel management will do something about it. So……if I would rate Pontefino Hotel and Residences I’d give it a score of 7/10.

Things to know:

Check-in time is at 12pm. Check-out time is at 2pm.
Pool operation starts from 8am to 10pm. They also distribute towels for those who want to swim, just ask one of the staff.
The gym opens earlier than the pool and closes at 10pm as well. Gym users can also ask for a towel.
Pontefino has their own BPI ATM machine.
