This bed and breakfast tries hard. The folks who work there are lovely. The room was not my cup of tea, however, they worked hard to make it pleasant. We ate dinner there one night, and breakfast two mornings. Dinner menu is limited but tasty (good wine list), and the breakfast was fine. One morning the breakfast was a disaster because they were understaffed, and the server gave my husband's breakfast to another table. We finally gave up because the server could not understand what had happened, and we left. I am assuming it was just a really bad day for them.
Great welcome from the staff who were superb throughout. Secure parking. Two beautiful rooms all one floor, felt like a private suite. Great location to walk into the town for shops and restaurants. Great breakfast which they set up early for us as we had an early start.
Beautiful villa, with old style but classy interior decoration and furniture. Heated mattresses, electric blankets and heater in the room. Good location (10 min walk to the city center) and parking (only for 2 cars though) that had a 24h security guard. Lovely backyard garden. The huge room (King) had 2 bedrooms, a separate living area and plenty of storage space. The bathroom was pretty 'naked' (a stark contrast to the rest of the room) with a shower cabin, a washbasin and a toilet. At night the room was pretty noisy as the hotel is located at a crossroad, and the windows were single glass. We had a good briefing and were provided with the necessary information. Even though we stayed 2 nights, we were not provided with complimentary water in the room on the 2nd day. It would have been nice to have at least a jar of filtered water either in the room or in the lounge area. Breakfast buffet was average and the portions were small. It is a nice place, totally different from the usual lodges which made it an interesting stay, taking you back to how it used to be.
We stayed three nights here. We were nicely welcomed. The car could be parked inside the gates, which was very nice. Our room was very nice and clean. The ladies at the front desk were very nice and accommodating. They arranged all our activities and dinner reservations in a couple of minutes. Because of my birthday they were singing at breakfast and I got a piece of cake with candles. Breakfast was very good.
I really liked the place a lot and especially the staff made this stay very nice. Highly recommended!!
We were met at the front door by a young man who led us inside to meet Mesaline (the owner?) who gave us a gushing and pretentous welcome to her home. She showed us the public areas downstairs before we were taken to our room.
It was not what we expected from pictures advertising Villa Margherita. We had one of the 2 'garden rooms', formerly outbuildings/servants "homes". Our rooms comprised a bedroom, a sitting room and a bathroom. The bedroom, was furnished with a comfortable bed, wardrobe, bedside tables and TV on a storage unit. Adjoining to one side, through a sliding door, was the sitting room with a sofa, two chairs and a bookcase. This room also had a small table in the corner for coffee/tea making plus 2 small bottles of water. To the other side of the bedroom was a bathroom with separate shower cubicle. The rooms were brightly painted, perhaps not to everyone's taste, with modern art decorating the walls. All rooms were clean and well presented, although they were very cold making our stay uncomfortable. An electric radiator was available, but it was hard to find a power point in the bedroom tucked behind the bed. The biggest downside of the room was the blinds through which anyone could see at night when lights were on. Dressing/undresssing in the bedroom was uncomfortable knowing that we could be seen when lights were on. There were no curtains in the rooms at all.
After settling in we were asked to meet with our host in the garden to read through and sign our agreement to house rules.
Breakfast was served from 7am. Guests could choose from the breakfast menu though everything was brought to the table in pre-determined quantities. However, our bacon was overcooked and fried eggs undercooked.
Entry after 6pm is via a locked garden gate. A night guard is paid to stand outside the guest house to keep watch over guests' cars left on the street.
