The location was very good at the end of town and is just off the main road but is quiet as the rooms are well away from the busy road. It takes about seven minutes to get to the beach and one minute to get to the shops and eateries. The hotel has its own restaurant which was very popular but we ate at Walkers Inn most nights which is a couple of minutes away and run by a Yorkshire man and his Thai wife and who are very knowledgeable and hospitable. We stayed in two room types and both were very clean and spacious, set in beautiful palm tree surroundings. If we go back to Khao Lak we would stay here again if we could get in.
We met my daughter who lives in Australia and stayed here for a week. We had an upgraded room - beds were comfortable and room contemporary. Maid service everyday, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely recommmend. It was a quieter resort having spent a few days in Bangkok, the beaches close by are lovely too. The price was exceptional value for money about £37 per night.
We ate at the restaurant too, excellent food and good cocktails.
Stayed here for 3 nights (booked in for 2 but decided to stay another night).
The service is great.
Room was nice and clean.
Everything worked perfectly fine.
The pool was awesome and clean.
Less than 10 minutes walk to the best beach area and less again to several bars, restaurants and shops.
No disturbing traffic noice.
The restaurant is outstanding (see separate review)
Chim, the manager made sure we got a room (challet or cabin or bungalow, what ever you want to call it) to suit our request. We were showed 3 different types, all seemed great.
In the last month, we have been travelling through Thailand from south to north and back. We have stayed in 5 star resorts and also just dropped in to find a $25-$60 room in several places so we do have a bit of experience. Phu Khao Lak is a very good budget resort in a very popular area. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone who is happy with a clean, comfortable place to stay that does not want to pay big money just be a little closer to the beach and have all the fancy extras you get at the big resorts.
Thank you Chim for your help and advice about activities and events. All the best. Perry and Margot.
Difficult to give a simple review as I had a variety of experiences here. First, there are two types of rooms. One is very simple- small room, fan but no air conditioning, and non-modern toilet. My understanding is the toilets will be upgraded next year, but "flushing" is quite simple. The toilet itself looks normal, with a normal seat, but to flush it, one takes the scoop in a water-filled pail next to it and pours the water into the bowl; it's really quite simple. It was much hotter and more humid here than we had expected and wound up changing to the nicer, and much more expensive, rooms. These are larger, have air conditioning, a modern toilet, and even a water boiler.
The grounds are beautiful, filled with evenly spaced coconut trees and the rest covered in trimmed grass. Bird-watchers will enjoy the many Chinese Pond-Herons that hang out on the grass looking for worms, as well as the Chestnut-headed Bee-eaters and Indian Rollers.
There also is a nice pool with comfortable lounge chairs with umbrellas. The resort is on the other side of the main road from the beach, but it's only a short walk. The staff was very helpful.
There were some negatives that kept me from giving it 5 stars. The wifi was very sporadic, and rarely worked early evening (presumably from many guests trying to access it at the same time). Our air conditioning broke, but to their credit they somehow got an electrician at 8:30PM to come in and replace it. Then the following morning we had no power for several hours.
Phu Khao Lak is a very modern beach resort, I can highly recommend the Villa's as they are very well appointed & spacious with one bedroom. The resort was incredibly reasonably priced too. The beach was fantastic to walk on in both direction you can walk for several kms. The resort staff very friendly and extremely helpful and accommodating. The Staff responsible for the pool area and activities was excellent one staff member kept my husband challenged at playing several bouts of table tennis. This a resort is a place where you can do as much or as less as you like, plenty of activities available. The variety of food and quality of food was excellent through the resort.
Would deferentially be back to this resort and this part of Thailand
