My friend and I stayed here on our last day. BEAUTIFUL art all over the walls. Homey atmosphere. Quaint common room. Balcony upstairs. We were in a room of 8 and the room was so spacious! Shower and bathroom downstairs.
The woman who runs the hostel is such a dear , very helpful, and truly made me feel at ease. I came to the hostel panicking and she calmed me down quickly.
They also have a Mommy cat who has the cutest baby cats :P
About a 10 minute walk from the train station, and approximately 5-10 to the city square with the beautiful statues. Icould be wrong on the time, but regardless it's a lovely walk by day and night.
Hostel also has free wi-fi
First, we arrived in the hostel with a reservation for six-bed room including private shower in the room. Big surprise that is just communal showers but it's ok. After there was one shower for the entire hostel inside, there are also 3 showers outside in the garden.
Access to the indoor shower was denied me. The woman of the hostel told me : " It's not your shower, your shower is outside, go outside. "
I have paid for private shower, but I found myself in the garden, where the showers were scruffy. Rooms are unclean.
The Staff isn't friendly, not welcoming, they do not help at all. the overall feel in this place is distasteful... Finally, It does not look like a hostel.
Really disappointed sleeping at Skopje.
You know whats worst than a 13 hour train journey? Even worst than than your mates spontaneously puking on you in a sudden breakout of vomit driven illness? I'll tell you what. Doing ALL THIS then having to come to Art hostel.
Hostel art has to be one of the most unpleasant series of nights i've ever experienced.
I'm totally shocked that people can even throw around words like "brilliant" and "perfect" like some of the reviews on here.
Here is a small list of the hellish features this hostel has to offer:
- NO AIR CONDITIONING: You know you have a problem when you'd prefer to sleep outside with the stray dogs than inside, simply because its so much cooler. It was literally 35+ degrees inside and it was physically and mentally draining to even comprehend trying to sleep never mind accomplishing it. The funny this is we didn't even see the owners. Why'd you ask? Because they spend all their time outside escaping from the intense sun like heat. But don't worry boyz, tucked into the corner of our room was a nice little heater for all the cold weather Macedonia gets.. Good job lads.
- SHOWERS: 3 available showers at this hostel. 1 situated inside and 2 outside in what i can only describe as a series of cubicle gas chambers. The showers are bad. Probably the worst i've ever experienced. I can probably say my friends puking on me was a stronger and more enjoyable shower than these. I can ejaculate a better stream of liquid honestly. This combined with the lack of space, as well as being plunged into complete darkness (yes the lights didn't work) make it a terrible experience.
- Kitchen: Less of an issue but don't have a kitchen if you don't have any appliances for it. Cramped, lack of space. Took 35mins to boil water.
- Breakfast: Nice of them to even attempt to give something, but It was more of a disappointment as i was hyped up for something nice and then got kicked firmly in the balls.
Location is good i guess, but you do have to walk through a pretty rough area to get anywhere. Everytime i walked outside it i thought i was going to be robbed and thrown back into art hostel. Scary thought.
Skopje is a nice city. Yeah this.
I like dogs. Plenty of stray dogs around so i enjoyed that.
You get the idea.
0/10 could try harder.
(p.s. the pictures are clearly of when the hostel was first opened because it really doesn't look like that any more. Quality has clearly slipped xD).
Location can't be beat. Close to absolutely everything you'll need on your stay. Dorm room had plenty of space and was clean. Amazing owner! Very helpful and friendly. Managed to send my wallet and passport to me when I left for Ohrid (how I managed to forget this I'll never know!)
I stayed for one night only. This is a small hostel, in a quiet neighbourhood, located next to the quay and river Vardar. The location is easy enough to find, when you exit the train/bus station (in the direction to the center) it's in the block of houses to the right, best to ask around if you're unsure though. From the hostel it takes you on foot about 5min to the station, 10min to the centre, and a few minutes to the mall. No need for buses and taxis.
The garden is used like a common area, as well as the patio. The rooms were fine, the kitchen is conjoined with the living room. This was no problem for me because I barely spent any time in the hostel, but it might not be what you want if you need a lot of personal space. The kitchen has everything you need and everything was functional, even if it is small.
There are no computers (I think) but you have free wi-fi. The bathroom issue some people reviewed is fixed, since now there is a regular bathroom with washing machine and a small area when you walk through the garden which has a few showers and toilets. The staff were more than helpful with directing me where to go and how to get there, wonderful people and hosts.
