We booked twin standard room and paid for 2 adults and 1 child for $50 a night at Bratislava hotel in Kiev through Trivago at otel.com. On arrival we have been told that we will have to upgrade to a bigger room as the child is not provided with an extra bed. We decided not to as the bed was a double and had enough space for two people. The room came in with two pillows and towels enough for two people, however on request hotel has provided extra pillow and towels. The housekeeping went beyond their duties and selected us a pillow that was flatter than others by request. The room was clean but with worn out decor. The facilities of the room were basic, shower, toilet, sink, wardrobe, tv ( foreighn tv chanels available and cable tv at extra cost), two arm chairs, coffee table, a desk and a chair, and two double beds. The room had a balcony, large windows, and aircoditioning. The ironing facilities were available for public use in the corridor. There was a bar in the lobby and a large dining room, however we did not use those facilities. The location of the hotel was very close to metro station and a bus station. Planty of grocery stores ( we found four in very close proximity), plenty of coffee shops ( not great coffee by Australian standards), a doctor's office right next to the hotel, chemists ( about 6 in a walking distance), toy store, cloths store, bakery, small street food shops, and a large Ukranian fast food chain Puzata Hata that served ok and cheap food. The suburb itself is not practical for tourist destinations as most of them are on the other side of the river. The suburb itself is quite glum and run down and gives true insight of how everyday Ukranians live. However a lovely park right across from the hotel was very pleasant to visit with great high rope obsticle course for kids/ adults at low cost ($2-$5AU), playground, electric childrens cars for hire, coffee kiosks and ice cream kiosks. If you like to have your holiday on a low budget it is quite ok hotel to stay with room serviced on daily basis. As a suggestion to the hotel it would be great to have a kettle in the room as we really struggled to get hot drinks for our child when she got sick. On the retrospect we would have paid more and stayed somewhere more cosy but are greatful for the warmth of the people who made our stay at the hotel welcoming. Also please note that there are adult night facilities in close proximity to the hotel and hotel attracts that type of clients.
