There are some positive and some negative points about this B&B. The location is really nice. It lies in the suburb of Providencia, about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to the main subway line. Providencia is kind of a rich suburb, making it a very safe neighbourhood. There are a lot of good restaurants and several supermarkets within a 10 to 15 minute walk. It also is a really quiet place, only having about 3 rooms, it's not the kind of party hostel. The pool - although kind of dirty sometimes - stands out as a positive point as ell

The negative parts are that it feels like they want to get your money at first. That said, you have to pay if you want to store the luggage for 2 or 3 hours after check.out. Also, their laundry service (no opportunity for washing by yourself) seems overpriced. The breakfast is average at most. Finally, the room, which wasn't clean at all, doesn't seem to be heated, which means that it can get really cold with around 5°C outside temperature at night.

We were disappointed given by the excellent reviews here.

We have stayed at a number of places in Santiago in recent years (Hostals and Apartments), at various values. Then this year we came across the Magic House, with a pool. For value for money, friendliness of the welcome and facilities the we have not found better. Our trip this year required us to return to Santiago 3 times, initially with motorbikes that Tania and Victor allowed us to park there. Following our initial 2 days we decided to book in for our return the following month and then again 2 weeks later for our final nights in Chile.

The pool was cleaned regularly, sometimes leaves fall in from the trees in an adjacent property, but that is nature. There are a bunch of parakeets in another tree, and yes they sing during daylight hours, just like the thousands of other birds around that live in trees all over the city.

During our three stays we were made very welcome and treated more like friends than guests, there was never any trouble using the kitchen, which was shared with Tania and Victor (it is their home).

Our favourite room was the outside one near the pool and BBQ, there was never any late night noise and the parakeets went to sleep at sunset.

Misled by the lovely comments here we booked a room at the Magic House and were very excited about arriving and staying. The comments sounded great and our email communication with the hosts gave us very good impressions. It seemed to us that we would be feeling like home as Victor was more than kind and friendly in his emails, despite of our bad Spanish.
At arrival we were warmly met and invited, answered all our questions about where to go, shop, eat etc. Victor's wife speaks a little English.
It all looked good at first. Then firstly we realized that we will sleep in a tiny room because the one we had booked was not available. They didn't even mention this earlier and at the moment just behaved like if it was absolutely normal. The room was so small that there was only the bed stuck to a TV and barely a place to walk around the two sides of the bed. The other two sides were touching the walls as the bed was in the corner. There was a small bathroom too which painting was peeling off and there was no warm water. Make sure you don't go in that room, unless you are fine with any conditions! This is behind the house near the swimming pool. It is one floor building, seemed like it had been a shed or something before. We could barely fit our suitcases in that room. And in order to move one had to wait for the other to seat on the bed. It is really minuscule!
We didn't make a problem of that although we were disappointed that we were neither warned nor told we will be charged less for that night.
Next room on the second floor of the house was a little better. It was supposed to be deluxe. There was a little more space. Still not comfortable to move around or arrange your luggage, but compared to the first one, it looked almost ok. The small wardrobe was breaking with hanging door and drawers which were hard to close and open and it was not clean. The same story with the bed: same size, in the corner, with acrylic linen ( in the first room the linen were not the side of the bed, but smaller so all night the fitted sheet was moving down and letting you sleep directly on the mattress which did not even had protection) and instead of a blanket or a duvet there was one of those camping sleeping bags which they sen to love. There was additional blanket too.
The bathroom was in a little bit better condition. This time we had warm water, but it was impossible to set constant temperature of the water while taking a shower. There was a small instant boiler on the wall which was switching on and off and water temperature was changing from cold to too hot every few seconds.
Also they have a cat in the house, which we were not informed about. I guess because of the smell of the cat they have those air aromatizers plugged in the electricity everywhere. Extremely bad choice of aroma, too strong, sharp and unpleasant.
The hygiene could be criticized a lot. In a nut shell the place needs renovation and a lot of refreshment works. The sleeping bags need to be cleaned as you can see long time stains on them.
One room of the house is separated in two for a lounge and a breakfast place. It seemed very nice and cosy at the beginning, there was a TV and music. Actually in the breakfast room there is not enough place for more than 3 - 4 people. There is two slice toaster and you have to wait to finally toast your bread. The breakfast is included but the products are not fresh and of a very poor quality. This is what we had:
Instant coffee, tea bags, three slices sliced white bread per person with two slices of some kinds of ham and one slice of a sort of cheese which had no taste at all! A box of milk, electric cattle with water, sugar, a little instant hot chocolate and strawberry drink of the "Nesquick" type, but cheaper brand, stored in small plastic boxes. There was some margarine which they also store in two plastic lunch boxes, and it is full of crumbs as people use the boxes directly with their knifes to spread margarine on their slices. There is also some jam, a bottle of orange juice made from concentrate which is of a very low quality and therefore stays there forever. And there are little cakes or small muffins and some cereal type of breakfast which were not fresh at all when we were there. The cake was dry and the cereal full of moisture. There is not even drinking water and not even fruits.
The swimming pool was heated during our stay although it was warm, but it does not seem to be cleaned regularly.
There is zero professionalism! The hosts say there is one day cancelation fee, but if you tell them you plan to leave earlier that you mentioned they become mad and start shouting and repeating that they don't understand you. Finally we arranged our earlier leave in a civilized way.
To conclude, the hostel could be considered likeable, which is if you are ok with any conditions, the hosts are friendly if everything goes well in their understanding. It is overpriced for the conditions and services. It is in a nice neighbourhood, but quite noisy, because of the near road with rather heavy traffic and neighbours' dogs and a tree full of birds which make amazing noise at night.
There is no air conditioning and since the rooms are very small it is very warm when temperature outside is over 27-29'C.
We wouldn't go there again and were very happy to leave. We wouldn't recommend it at all!

We stayed 2 nights and I regret we didn't stay longer. The hostel is in a very nice and safe district, close (8-10 mins) to the metro station. Our room was very nice and had a private bathroom and flat TV. Breakfast was included. The owners are really lovely and helpful. I would stay again here if I'm back to Santiago.

Magic House was our first stop on a two month trip through South and Central America. We were a little nervous to arrive somewhere very new and unknown, but we quickly felt comfortable with Tania and Victor, and the other guests who were lovely. We were quick to extend our stay. It's a social hostel where everybody congregates in the kitchen for wine and chatter. Great place to discuss plans and ideas for what to do in Santiago (and elsewhere too).

Magic House is in a nice area close to a Metro station and supermarket. It offers all the facilities one would expect and the breakfast is excellent. We stayed in two different dorm rooms as well as a private room one night - the dorms are tight but pleasant and the private rooms are nice. If anything, we were a bit ruined by Magic House as it set our expectations very high for the rest of the trip!
