What a place 2km outside Pucón - walking distance or £2 taxi ride- this hotel is right on the lake shore with grounds to the beach ( where there is a hidden gem of a room)
West facing gives fabulous sunset views from the restaurant which I have reviewed separately and is excellent in its own right for residents or non residents.
Fresh produce from the hotel garden resulted in really excellent salads.
Really enjoyed the open fire in the lounge conducive to talking to other guests if so wish. Bar had excellent wine list and also supported an open fire.
Each room has its own fire but fortunately ( or unfortunately!) the weather was too hot to use.
Staff speak perfect English and are genuinely helpful and friendly. I needed to do some work one morning before breakfast and sat by the fire in the lounge laptop on knee only to be brought some coffee by a staff member without even asking for it. That’s the sort of family run not Corporate place this is -and long may it continue.
Really enjoyed the sauna in the SPA although the pool temperature was “ bracing “ and the changing facilities lacking with only one shared shower.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip stayed here in 1968 as have many other dignatories on the wall of fame.
So what needs to improve ? Some very minor maintenance niggles for hotel info only really -
So basics like weeding the patio steps outside the lounge - odd because the grounds are really well kept.
The hot tub was in permanent rest mode in the SPA
The toilet constantly flowed wasting water and wasnt fixed when asked
But perhaps the bigger jobs also need considering. The internet speed was low but i managed but could be improved
The main issue for us is we really don’t like a shower over a bath and shower curtain. Think that’s too much of a bygone time and a programme to upgrade en-suite would be sensible although costly.
Don’t be put off by this point- still a fabulous hotel it was a privilege to stay in as it feels like someone’s home but don’t expect a luxury bathroom. Clean and functional but if you know what to expect then can’t be disappointed.
Set in a beautiful location with extensive gardens and own private beach (albeit of lava shingle) We stayed here for two nights. The room was a good size with a very large bed and log fire if required. The restaurant and bar have fantastic views overlooking the lake whilst sipping that pre dinner drink. The restaurant food was of a high quality and would I highly recommend the hake dish. All portions are large, so choose wisely. All the staff without exception were attentive and helpful and would even refill our water bottles upon request. I’d highly recommend staying here.
The views from here are stunning directly over the lake and the snow capped Andes behind ,with a sunset to die for.
Certainly our room and I think all rooms have a lake view. There is also a lovely spa and the staff are great. Breakfast was lovely and we ate in restaurant both evenings and food was very good.
It was interesting to see that the Queen and Prince Philip had stayed here on a state visit in 1968 and the Queen’s thank you letter ( available on line) was interesting and they had obviously enjoyed their stay. The things that let the hotel down and made me give it a 4 star rather than 5 star were no bedroom mini bar or tea / coffee making facilities or easy availability and, I didn’t realise there was a bar behind reception , and bathroom toiletries also appeared meagre. In the spa there was quite a lot of maintenance needed ( broken window and gaps in walls between changing rooms etc ) but we really enjoyed our stay .
We live in a place very similar to Pucon in Lake Tahoe, California and we have several of these old dames like Antumalal which were built during the 40’s and 50’s. Usually these hotels will go two direction, the old structures will fall into disrepair and eventually close or, as is the case of Antumalal, they become a classic and will transcend time. My family, consisting of our 7 and 3-year-old, my wife and I recently stayed at the two-bedroom cottage for four nights. What a cool place, it exudes character. We arrived after midnight and the night watchman was more than happy to show us to the cottage and help with our bags. I have been to Pucon several time and felt very lucky that we had great sunny weather during the winter. You open up the windows to a beautiful view of the lake. At night we slept with the calming sound of the lake water a few meters below the cottage. We were there during low season (August) so there was hardly anyone else at the hotel. Be forewarned the 2- and the newer 3-bedroom cottages are a fair walk down beautiful stone steps which I can see being slippery during rain. Our kids loved the cottage, with a small kitchen, living room & no neighbors. The property is gorgeous, full of lush greenery & foliage. The pool is amazing now, I can’t imagine what it looks like during the summer. I hope with all the new construction going on around Pucon, Antumalal continues to thrive. We thought the price we paid was a great value for our family.
A great hotel. A little out of town (25 minute walk), the view from the restaurant and sitting area is simply amazing. You also get the same view from the bedrooms. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We did the tour of the area and sailing on the catamaran, both worth it. Watching the sunset on the lake while sailing on the boat was fantastic. The food in the restaurant is good and a perfect spot for lunch or dinner.
