We booked this hotel as a last minute, a trip after the Chinese New Year. I wanted to book Calypso, since someone recommended but it was fully booked.
Since there is the same owner and checked the recommendations of other guests, we decided to go.
We had booked four nights 2 standard rooms and 3 nights double deluxe, since our party was 5, including 2 toddlers.
The first thing first, after a long trip to Boracay we came in a hotel where it was NO SOAP. We asked for one and they replied very sharply that the hotel doesn't provide soap. Here we are going to find the first store to buy soap.
The towels were terrible!! old and barely wanted to use them.
We paid for each room 90 Euro a night, which means 180 a night.
The second day we asked to change the rooms or have some discount, or we check out.
In the meantime, since I wanted to wash my girls after the beach I discovered that there is NO HAIR DRYER, since "it is nowhere stated that they have to have hair dryier in the room", the reply of the concierge.
I never thought that a beach hotel with such a high price for a room cannot provide a hairdryer!!
I insisted to have one, they gave us one that broke after 10 minutes and took us more than one hour to get one from Calypso.
We waited, after washing our first girl, another hour to get hot water to wash the other girl.
The breakfast was at Calypso, "a la carte" which means they have 6 types of breakfast, including 2 for kids and you choose one. The choices are very limited and having "a la carte" means you wait one hour to eat, which is time consuming.
The first day when we wanted to have breakfast, since we were 5 they just threw a chair in a corner of the table so we shall just eat all in a small 4 person's table. I asked the lady to at least be kind and attach two tables together so we can have a comfortable breakfast and she agreed with the worst face I saw on a waiter's face.
That lady had the same bored/annoyed face each morning day or night, tried to cheat once on the bill and so on.
After all, these, we decided that we have to escape this terrible place.
I also asked very kindly to make the change in the bill, that we fully paid, since they overcharged us-- through a travel agency myboracay.com -- an extra 25 Euro for 2 nights, since they had stated that the peak season ends February 17th, and since we arrived on February 16th, they were supposed to charge us just one night for peak not two as they did.
As the conditions were so terrible, and they didn't want to give us any discount for all the discomfort and act always like take it or leave it, we insisted to get the refund.
They refused. My husband asked several times to talk to the manager, he was never available. The owners or managers are two Swiss guys who are always hanging around Calypso. I saw one witnessing my arguments (I got to that) with the Reservation lady, but never intervened!!
The other one never wanted to show up and after we checked up, I saw him looking after us on the street..Such cowards and really bad customer relations!!
They announced us that they will not do anything to comfort us and if we want to leave we shall do so.
The next day we announced that we check out and to set up all the bills. When wanted to pay, they gave us just the hotel bill, nothing from Restaurant.
I announced them they made a mistake, since we do have to pay for restaurant but we will pay just a difference between our restaurant bill and the extra night they charged us incorrectly.
They refused, we insisted, they had long arguments with my husband, spending more than 3 hours like this, put me on the phone with myboracay.com and so on.
At the end the reservation lady, JOY, called the police. This was her way to comfort us after 3 nights with no soap, hairdryer, overschrging for a night, no hot water for an hour!!!
As a result we went by ourselves to the police station, complained and announced the police they refused to issue a receipt.
All in all, the myboracaiguide.com representative arrived, some Michael, after other 4 hours, the most arrogant person I ever met, and finished the story.
We moved out to Canyon de Boracay, and finally felt like we got in the best hotel in the world.
All in all, we were so sorry we had such a bad experience and really ruined our holiday in such a wonderful place as Boracay.
I know the management doesn't care about any negative feedback since their diving school is endorsed by the National Georgraphic...so people do go their..
However, the prices at Calypso are really high, a cocktail is around 160-180 PhP which has no real alcohol taste and you can drink a good one down the road to about 100 PhP.
The meals are really terrible, but this is very usual in Boracay.
I do hope that nobody will go through such a bad experience in Boracay.
and I do hope that nobody from the management of that horrible hotel will not answer to my post since this will be such an offence and incredible disrespectful towards us.
