We booked 2 nights here at the end of our trip in El Nido. We thought paying $400 per night would be very luxurious but overall we would pay about $200 per night for this in Australia or only $100 per night in Bali, so we found it strange that prices in El Nido are so high.
Pros - Staff very friendly, rooms very large, decor is modern and rooms are clean with a nice view of Corong-Corong beach, the pool is nice but small. Breakfast was good.
Cons- We didn’t get hot water until our second night’s stay, wifi didn’t work in the rooms (only at the bar), they charged 500 pesos per way for going into El Nido town - at $400 per night we expected this would be a complimentary service as other hotels included this for free and charged less per night, the roof leaked but they moved us to a different room and gave a complimentary dinner for the inconvenience which was fair enough, there’s no hotel grounds except the pool and you can’t swim at the beach (this beach has the town storm water drains feed into it so we saw dead rats and rubbish on the beach) if you want to swim you need to go to Vanilla Beach aka Las Cabanas aka Marimegmeg beach. You can take a tricycle there for 100 pesos.
They don’t have a day spa so the massage service is a mobile service where they set up the beds in your room. The massage wasn’t very good- more like a Bali beach massage but 4 times the price. We found a day Spa in the Vanilla beach shops and at Lio beach - both looked like proper Massage Parlours and prices were half the cost compared to what we got charged at the hotel.
Overall it was a pleasant stay but we believed it was over-priced for what you get.
This was a lovely secluded retreat with amazing views. Being new everything was crisp and clean. We loved the coconut welcome drink and the reception staff were outstanding- a young chap with side parted hair... forgot his name...he was simply amazing...the room was spectacular with breathtaking views.
After long days out island hoping and diving I cannot day enough about how superb the bed was... and the lovely mats where we did yoga each morning...all amenities like hair dryer and adaptor in a lovely basket... love the bar, sunset and the nature feel....
Feedback on Meals:
We ate here due to the hygiene issues in El Nido with many reporting being sick. Well done on being clean! We did not fall sick once...
The breakfast could be improved... I don’t think we each need to order our meal and then wait 1/2 hrs for it to come each morning... certain food should already be out - such a toast, spreads, cereals and a couple of hot items like fried rice or pancakes or the usual baked beans tomatoes etc. Should guests want to wow their guests they can then offer a limited selection of a range of egg dishes, etc. What they do instead is give you an extensive list of breakfast items and then struggle to get it to you- you’d get your toast without spreads 15 minutes apart... or walk in at 7am(when breakfast opens) and there’s nothing even close to being prepared. We called the night before and we said was we had to be gone by 7.45am...
We did grizzle and the reception chap quickly helped out and packed a breakfast for us as we were rushing to tour. So they next day we pre- ordered... only to be given everything in a plate- pancakes, eggs toasts all at once... some training is required in this area... breakfast is a really big deal and is what holiday makers look forward to. This damped the great place Frangipani is...
What I found strange too and perhaps somewhat unacceptable and unprofessional is that staff would be eating their meals in the same area as hotel guests ( and this is a small enclave of 6-7 tables). This happened EVERY day at breakfast and dinner. There would be 1 guy struggling to cook and 3 waitresses just standing around... why not get behind the counter and cook and help out... that’s what we did when I worked in a cafe- we would help out at peak times... here were staff doing non urgent things like picking leaves from the pool and another staring at the tree to look for falling leaves while 6 tables were waiting for breakfast.
Why I am rating this place a 4? It is because when staff were given feedback they truly tried their best and to rectify. We also gave tips to the cook the next day for his fried rice ( the first day just being white rice fried w tomato sauce) and took 45 mins to prepare. I asked for ice cream on the last day and they said they had to go to a shop and get it (!!!)..
Put things on the menu which you have not what you don’t . The menu was very flamboyant. Half the things were not available or were cooked in a compromised way...why is there only 1-2 cooks for 6-7 tables in the morn( the first day only 1 cook). Staff would just stand around. In the first day I was brought cutlery after 1/2 hr. I ate my pancakes with my hands, no jam or spreads. When I did ask it came 15 mins later... staff are very slow...especially the ladies...
It is my first visit to El Nido and it is a spectacular place. I just found service to be too chilax n slow. Yes I can see potential though for great things...they just really need to buck up with their momentum where service is concerned...
Tons of mosquitos on the veranda...we brought our own spray... consider some form of repellent in rooms too...
We tipped the staff and after grizzles we returned each night to encourage them both verbally and in tips but there is work to be done to be truly spectacular, so a 4 it is.
Great staff, excellent menu and service, awesome availability to help with tours and staff. Great attention to details (sweets and messages everyday and everyday different!), lovable pool in front of the room.
Good position and valuable price for western standards.
Speed of service can be improved a bit in the kitchen as much as far internet connection.
Definitely a good place to stay in El Nido, recommended
Our first time in El Nido was even more memorable because of Frangipani. The hotel’s wonderful. And the staff, even more! They were so accommodating, we felt right at home. I will always, always remember the hospitality that we have received from Frangipani. They really made our stay memorable. They were very pleasant, always kind, attentive and personal. They even know the names of their guests!
Food at the hotel was great! We never felt the need to try any other restaurant in El Nido. It was THAT good. If you are staying with kids, the groundfloor rooms are very convenient, you have direct access to the pool and the restaurant is also very near. If you would like to treat yourself, their 1 bedroom suite will give you an uniterrupted and dramatic view of the El Nido sunset. So beautiful. The beach in front of the hotel is great for kids. The water is very calm and during low tide, there’s a sandbar. We walked there one morning with our kid and so many wonderful memories were made.
To Nadine, Karla, JM and the rest of the Frangipani team, thank you so much for making our stay magical!
And to you who’s looking for a place to stay in El Nido, I sincerely hope you get to experience Frangipani’s hospitality. I am excited for you😊
Stayed here for 2 nights and 3 days for our “minimoon” :)
It was more than I expected! Beautiful interiors, great energy, good music at the lounge and resto and amazing views. Food was also great and plenty! Loved the Adobo sa Gata! It’s also easy to find and they provide complimentary airport transfer so there won’t be any hassles going to/from Frangipani. If you wanna visit town, it’s easy to go by tricycle as well - the locals are helpful too anyway.
The staff were amazing - they are super helpful and polite - hands down. They were kind enough to check us in early since we arrived a bit early in the morning - thankfully there was a room available - we hung out at the lounge while waiting :) The view was already a treat.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable - it has all the essentials you’ll ever need. You’d be torn if you wanna go out and explore El Nido or stay in cause the rooms are just too cozy!!! Plus we had pool right in front of our room and the view to enjoy on top of that.
Frangipani also gave as a complimentary bottle of wine since we were there for our minimoon - we would always come back to our room made up and they would leave us personal notes and pastillas, it was a cute and nice touch.
Would definitely make this our home base whenever we visit El Nido. I miss the slow life and beautiful nature there. Good job to everyone at Frangipani! ❤️
