I have stayed in a few Chiang Mai Hotels, but this is the only one that I will definitely use again. It's location was perfect for me. Room was spotless, restaurant served good food - not expensive. Staff were helpful. Generally, it was hard to find fault, but of course, I did:
Room: Not enough plug sockets, and those that there were were only 2 pin. Modern appliances such as my laptop has 3 appliances. Not the first time I've experienced this, so I carry an adapter. Wi-Fi was shocking. Would not stay connected for more than 1 minute. I had to refer to my mobile hotspot.
Pool Area: No protection from the Thai sun - a few umbrellas would be useful. The pool is plastic, which includes the ladder. For an overweight person such as me, this is dangerous as the ladder twists and turns as you use it.
Entrance: There should maybe a warning about major roadworks directly outside the hotel. The soil is being mixed with drainage water from nearby drains. I have cut a toe, which has become seriously infected as a result. Maybe alternate routing to local amenities such as 7-11 should be advised.
More positives that negatives. Great location. Breakfast buffet is great for choice. The hotel is dated but great value for money. Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Negatives. In the room there are not enough plug sockets. The internet sometimes has a tendency to dip out of connection. Pool and Jaccuzi are great although they do needed cover from the sunshine.
Tarin Hotel you guys and girls are fab, I would come back in heart best!
On the day we stayed, we rang the hotel in advance to confirm the price and availability. We were old it would be 700 baht and that there was a room for us. After getting a taxi right across town, we were then told in check in that the price was 1400 baht a night. Having already spent money to get to the (very out of the way) hotel we just decided to pay as we couldn't afford to get anywhere else. A we left for our rooms we asked for the password to the free wifi only to be told we had to pay 100 baht. When we challenged them about this they sighed and handed over three codes for us- clearly it was free after all.
Room was tired and smelt, for lack of a better word, like bums. Pool was more of a paddling pool than anything else and the gym was filled with unsafe, broken equipment.
When we asked about the free shuttle bus to the night market try told us it was 120 baht to get there and that they wouldn't pick us up. Again, when we challenged this they took us for free but we had to make our own way back, despite it being heavily advertised that they have a pick up service.
At breakfast we were watched constantly and even followed as we got food from the buffet. The food itself wasn't even worth this hassle- bad quality, small variety and stale bread. Not worth the extra 70 baht each!!
Overall, the staff our rude and very unhelpful, the rooms are substandard and the facilities poor, especially for the price. Can find much nicer places elsewhere!
don't be decieved by the picture of a pool. the size of the pool is rather small - no more than 10 metres in length. the only nice thing about the room is the bed. other than that, the carpet is old and dirty, and there is no power outlet in the room for charging batteries. wireless internet is provided free of charge but it's only available at the lobby.
