Positives: The hotel staff are kind and very friendly. The staircase leading to the restaurant is beautiful full of traditional decor. Negatives: Bad bedding, very noisy and smelly, the rooms are not clean, so many unnecessary furniture in the room, bathroom shower is made for dwarfs only, bad wifi, the buffet is not awesome and does not have a variety. We stayed a whole week and the swimming pool was out of order and there were no signs of working on it. There is no gym!
Galaxy Hotel/Apartment in a quiet/serene environment but right in the heart of the city. The major score point is the complimentary buffet breakfast by the pool side. Staff are officially courteous & are willing to assist in the best possible way. We surely visit again
We stayed one night in the Galaxy Hotel before we left Rwanda. We were in room 112, which must have been the presidential suite, it was so big.
You entered the room and went down a ramp into an entrance way / closet room. Then you went through a room which had a big jacuzzi bathtub for 2. After that, you entered the bedroom / living room area, which was huge. It had a king bed, and there were a couple of couches and an easy chair in front of the TV. There was a small desk table with one chair on one side of the room, with a whole kitchenette looking area on the other side. This had a sink, a mini fridge (with minibar items in it), and lots of empty cabinets. There was a door to an outside garden. The bathroom had no door.
I checked out the walk (up a long flight of gently sloping stairs) to the dining area and bar (and also the swimming pool). There was no elevator. So I decided it was too much for my companion, who doesn't walk so good. We ordered room service instead. But first we had to ask for a room service menu, as there wasn't one in the room.
The room service came eventually. I had to also ask for a bottle opener, as there was beer and soda in the fridge, but no opener. I wish there had been a doorbell, too, as it was almost impossible to hear anyone knocking on the door. Also, there was only 1 robe in the room.
Later, when I went out into the garden, I realized it was almost perfectly private and quite large. But the door to the garden didn't lock properly. I notified the desk about this when we checked out the next morning.
They brought us a huge breakfast in the morning, as we were leaving early, not the simple dish we had asked for. We couldn't eat it all in the time we had before we left. Since it was the final Saturday of the month (when no one works), we were worried about our ride to the airport. But the hotel shuttle was working, so we got to the airport with no problem (although airport security is really tight!).
We would stay here again.
Stayed 3 nights a Galaxy hotel. The hotel is supposed to be a 3 stars but personally i would say 2 stars or 1.5 star! On the pro side: hotel at the heart of the city and not far from many restaurants and other hotel, there is a church near by. Also, the food prices are not too expensive, there is a bar in front of a swimming pool with occasional ya live band. There is also a tour operator that has offices in the hotel which makes renting cars or van an easy task. The price was not bad; the price advertised was about $128 but I manage to have the night at $90 which was good.
On the cons side, there are plenty things that could be improve. The internet is very slow, the personnel at the hotel offer average quality of service, the hotel is not well maintained (damaged chair at the balcony, stains on the ceiling, broken tiles in the bathroom, etc.), food is average, AC in the room barely works, etc.
So if your are not too difficult, you could stay at Galaxy if you have limited budget and other better other of the same range are full.
Calm and quiet hotel on a quiet street. Nice clean pool Friendly staff, decent restaurant with great service. Breakfast could be more exciting but there's plenty of food. Reasonably priced. Huge comfy beds. Good internet. Make sure you tell them not to change your sheets and towels every day (save the planet). Once a week is plenty. Also they will give you water bottles but you can just refill them in the morning in the restaurant - who needs more plastic in the ocean?? Don't forget to say NO to straws all over Kigali. Enjoy!
