Location: Amazing!

Room:

Room layout is pretty straightforward with some nice mountain design elements. We found the bed quality below standard. While sitting on the mattress (i am nearly 2 meters and weigh 95kg) you will feel the slatted frame, which is uncomfortable. This together with the thin pillow which doesn't give much of support i would say there is room for improvement. The temperature in the room was very very hot and dry. There is no airconditioning and you can only open the window a little bit. For people who like it cold in their room while sleeping I think this is important to know.

Bar/Restaurant:

All staff were absolutely great. The bartender who suggested to try a dirty martini and all the staff in the restaurant, they really made it a good experience to stay in the hotel rather than going to other restaurants. Also the food in the restaurant is in line with the 4* which the hotel has. It is a non-typical mountain hotel menu and effort is made to present everything very nicely.

Spa:

Stunning! Amazing view from the pool and sauna. Delicious snacks and tea to enjoy while recovering from a day in the outdoors.

Reception:

Besides the bed, we found the frontdesk lady not the most pleasant experience. The lady didn't seem to care much, was hospitable or smiled. Personally i think the reception is where you arrive/depart at the hotel and reception staff is a business card for the hotel. Some training in hospitality and friendliness might help there.

We stayed for 2 nights at Melchsee Frutt Lodge to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Getting up there is part of the experience, great drive up the mountain (at even hours). We tested the 4x4 feature of the car :) On top there is only a huge public parking (16chf, no matter how long you stay, hotel does not reimburse the cost), the Lodge does not offer a parking. It is possible to drive up to the lodge to drop luggage, we found the streets up there confusing.

The hotel is very pretty. Contemporary mountain style, combining wood in a Swiss- Scandinavian style.

We had asked for lake view which I would recommend to get. Interior of the room feels very Christmassy and cosy. Rooms are spacious, the bathroom featured a tub and shower.

Breakfast was included in our rate and offered a wide regional selection of food and specialities.

We also dined twice at the International restaurant and were impressed by the menu and quality of food.

Also there is a private screening room where every night a different film can be watched at no extra charge. We watched once and liked the experience.

Also we used the Spa 3 days. It all seems absolutely new and very well maintained. The pool area is medium size, the hamam and sauna rooms are very spacious and have great view onto the lake.

We would have loved to do the morning Yoga lesson, but as it was daily from 9-10 am and breqkfast already closed at 10:30, we disliked the timing. 8am or 8:30 session would be better.

On our check out day (Monday) we asked for late check out (regular: 11:30), but it was only possible for an additional 1.30 hrs at a surcharge of 30 CHF, which we found ridiculous given the pricing of the hotel.

Overall we spent an amazing weekend in a magical surrounding in a very nice hotel. Would definitely recommend to stay there and am tempted myself to return in winter for staying.

Great location, great hotel, very friendly and polite staff. A huge budget room had a beautiful mountain view, fridge, Nespresso mashine, a bowl of fruit, an umbrella, a very comfortable armchair...
You can enjoy your free first drink in the bar on terrace - the centre of hotel`s life in summer.
The wellness pool is unforgettable: a colorful lighting, massage jets, heated beds and a such magic view...
It`s a pity, we did not complete a hike "four lakes" this time. I am shure that next our stay in this hotel we will do it.

I stayed at the hotel over New Year's Eve with my girlfriend for four nights. We were mostly there for the spa, relaxing and a few outdoors activities. We were very happy with our stay there and will definitely return!

Getting there: It's easiest to just follow the directions on the website and reserve a parking space at the Stöckalp. You can park your car there and take the cable car up the mountain. Your luggage will be delivered right to your room, which is very comfortable as you do not have to carry everything to the hotel.
We were greeted very friendly and escorted up to our room. We also got a small tour of the premises, so we knew where the restaurants, the spa and the bar were. Very friendly staff!

The room: We booked a double room with mountain view, and the view does not disappoint! The room is large, including a comfortable bed (the mattress is a little firmer than in most hotels I know, which I prefer), a sofa, chair and desk, as well as a very comfortable arm chair. The bathroom features a bathtub with a glass front to the bed, so you can watch your significant other take a bath. ;) You can also close the view with a wooden door if you like. There's an open, large shower (room for two), as well as a separate room with the toilet.

The food: The breakfast buffet is not gigantic, but definitely sufficient. Everything from rolls, fruit, to bacon, sausages and scrambled eggs is offered. You won't go hungry.
A three-course dinner was included in the package we booked, so we never had a look at the menu. For each course, you could choose from 2 or 3 choices, and everything we had was excellent. I'm not usually one to try new things at restaurants, but everything I had I loved, even unusual combinations of food.
I'd like to especially mention the portions. With "better" restaurants, I usually go out not hungry, but not really filled, as the portions are small. Not here. Soup or salad, meat or vegetarian, the portions are well-sized. They don't fill you up to the point of breathing problems, but you do not walk out hungry and can really enjoy the great taste.

The spa: The main room in the spa consists of a medium sized pool with a stunning view of the mountains and the lake. The water is a little cool, so you can't really spend an eternity in the water, but it's still very nice for relaxing, especially after a day outside. Enter a door and you are in the sauna area. I only walked through the area once to check it out and to get some tea and fruit from the snack buffet. Everything is very clean, comfortable and well-maintained.
I recommend booking the private spa. 2 hours are 250 CHF and it is worth it. You get a large room to yourself (locked), including a jacuzzi (rather large), a Finnish sauna, a steam bath and a great selection of fruit, chocolates, tea and water, as well as a resting area for two. The window allows a great view of the mountains. It's relaxing, it's romantic and it's something special.
There is a large selection of massages, my girlfriend decided to go for the 50 minute full body massage and she enjoyed it very much.

Outdoor activities: If you ski or snowboard, skip this part because you will be busy exploring all the slopes. We decided to go for a 4-hour snowboard lesson with the local ski and snowboard school, which was fun. We also took the cable car up to about 2100 meters, had a drink and enjoyed the view. If you like walking, pick a route and enjoy the snow. You can also rent snowshoes at the local store, as well as ski and snowboard equipment.

New Year's Eve: The New Year's Eve package included an 8-course meal, a midnight countdown with champagne, as well as a midnight buffet at 12:30 a.m. We did not taste the buffet, as we were very tired after midnight, but everything else was excellent. I enjoyed the fact that the celebration was not over the top, but a simple countdown and short speech by the hotel manager, good food and just a nice way to welcome the new year.

4/5 stars: The only thing that needs improvement is the bar service. During lunch/afternoon time, the bar gets crowded with skiers taking a break and the staff seems to lose the overview of the guests. We stopped in before going to the spa for a quick drink and a snack and it took forever to even get a menu. We had to approach a waiter to order and I saw my drink waiting on the counter for about 10 minutes before someone brought it over. This happened twice.

Overall, this is a great hotel in an amazing location. The view itself is worth it and I would definitely recommend staying here. The small local store offers rental equipment, as well as drinks and snacks to take to your room or outside. The staff (including the manager, who mingles among the guests and asks about the stay) is very friendly and always made us feel comfortable. We will definitely come here again.

What about forgetting our stressful life at 1900 meters above sea? Imagine a hotel lost in the magnificent Swiss alps. No cars, no noise, only nature and breathtaking view! Totally modern hotel, beautifully decorated, big rooms, extremely comfortable and pretty good restaurants... In winter you just need to take your skis and you're on the ski runs! And after skiing enjoy the nice spa or the swimming pool.
