Disappointing, you need to update your web page to make potential guests aware of Covid 19 rules, there is "NO FULL ENGLISH BREAKFAST" only discovered when we were given the key in a pouch detailing breakfast arrangements to be eaten in your room, no towel change, bins not emptied, yet the little we saw of the owners they were masked and gloves felt that they could of done basic hygiene tasks.
We had been looking forward to visiting this B&B as the photos made it look quite luxurious which was not our experience at all. We had a room overlooking the sea which was fine, but with only a bed and one chair for furniture we were amazed when we were presented with a tray of rolls, fruit and a couple of croissants to be eaten in our room. When we complained we were allowed to sit in the dining room but had no option of their famed hot breakfast. As we aren’t keen on white bread we ate very little as there was no brown offered and in fact no sign of staff at all. The complimentary toiletries consisted of 20ml shower gel and 20ml shampoo for 2 of us for 3 nights!
I based myself here in early September 2020, for 4 nights. This was during a time when the Coast House was operating under Covid-19 restrictions so all my views should be read with that in mind.
The breakfast room was not in use, and a good style continental breakfast was left outside the room each morning at 8am. So eating was in the bedroom itself. Unusual, but I was not hungry after eating it! The room was not cleaned each day to restrict Covid transmission between staff & guests, instead a bag of room goodies (tea/coffee/milk/shampoo/soap etc) was left outside the room for collection each evening. Towels were not replaced, but I have no doubt would have been if I'd remembered to leave them outside; my coffee mug certainly was.
I expected to miss the banter with the owner, given the closed dining room, but Andrew was present in the kitchen most mornings, and was full for useful advice and chat, from a safe distance. I appreciated this. Especially his information about car parking options (pay across the road, or free pot-luck road parking a fairly short distance away) as well as places to visit.
All told, for what I needed (a base to explore the local sights from, by my bike or by foot) the Coast House single room was fine. It was a tight fit at times but adequate. The Covid precautions were very fair given the situation at the time. I'd recommend it.
The guest house is located 30 meters from the beach, it's very clean and modern, my stay was very pleasant and I was made to feel very welcome by the owner Andrew, social distancing was always kept, would recommend for single or couple.
Excellent position on Mumbles sea front, only steps away from two pubs, the Pilot was a find, as it brewed its own beer on site.
Room very clean and room 5, in particular, has a brilliant sea view and a huge, very modern bathroom, with walk in shower.
Breakfasts are excellent, with a daily request sheet in your room, to order what you wish from the menu for the following day.
Owner and staff we met were very pleasant and helpful. The stairs are a little steep with narrow treads so you need to watch your footing going up to the top floor.
Parking acroos the road is £1.50 per hour or £6 per day but if you are lucky, there is free parking for approx 10 cars in front of the 'George' next door.
Definitely a small but friendly hotel which is worth going back to.
